We were shopping for a used car, and had a great experience with both of the sales reps we dealt with -- Gavin & Cameron. We first looked at a 2018 Civic on the Subaru lot, but my daughter wanted to look at other options (wasn't set on a Civic). The good thing about the Capitol setup, is they have Chevrolet and Toyota right there, so we were able to go look at quite a few other newer used car options. We drove a 2022 Kia Forte, as well as a 2018 Chevy Cruze LT RS, and liked both of them better than the Civic -- they both had a lot lower miles, and were quieter on the road. We never felt any pressure from either sales associate, and felt they were very helpful in finding us viable options. We took a break to go get some lunch while we did research on the vehicles, then came back to work out a deal for the Cruze with Cameron and company. All of the associates involved with the deal mentioned several extended warranty options, but given the fact that the car only had 31K miles, was regularly serviced next door at the Chevy dealer, and got good reliability ratings from several consumer agencies, we declined. The finance guy pressured a little harder, and was on the verge of being a jerk about it, but I stood my ground and left without any add-ons. I'm fine with that. The overall atmosphere inside the dealership is laidback, with an inviting waiting area stocked with snacks and water. As far as used car buying experiences go, I rate this one pretty highly. This is in regards to the service department, and Some on the sales. Consider this before you buy a 50,000 Dollar car from them, if you are considering you buying an EV from them, do your research because everyone, contradicts what the other says about the car, he said no, she said yes, you get my point. they arguee back and forth with the customer SO much on the issues at hand, the issues are never resolved. And are met with an argument everytime. Which puts us on the defense! You know whats even funnier is, we found out more about our EV from capital Chevy, according to chevy, this isnt even Subarus tech, its Toyota tech, so maybe we should Whave bought it from Toyota. Sense it's apparently Toyota technology that they used. My favorite so far when we take it in for the any concerns on service, we are met with we cant duplicate it , every time. Which is were the arguments come in. Does anyone else have these issues? So because of our concerns and issues we have had, with the service department. We wont be buying another car from capital Subaru Our every concern falls on def ears and we are treated poorly by them. at lest from the two that we deal with, there are some nice folks there and we recognize that. But its funny how they always say they will be sending a review, if you could please give me a good review, what, are you kidding, To funny, the most recent issue, We have tryed repeatedly to get in for our 5000 mile inspection after four failed attempts to schedule an appointment with them, and still have not recieved a return call back, from there service department, even an associate gave us the emailing address to the service manager, they did say you wont get a response back, i thought interesting, that's an interesting statement. Coming from an associate, but we should have expected it, crazy, but we were hopeful, but the associate was right he never returned our email, and or bothered to call. This has been several months now and still no reply back, the way they treat customers, that are willing to stand up for themselves, is unforgivable. "Update today my wife just spent a half hour arguing with a service representative about all the calls he claims he never recieved, we have all the call logs and one number was supposed to be his personal line but again we are met with i never got those messages. So now we are liars? When we decided to buy the soltera we bought it on Subaru's good name. not capital Subaru's name. And because they did not return our calls to be serviced we reached out to wilsonville Subaru, they were kind a sympathetic to our concerns and scheduled us asap, and have acctully answered all of our questions and concerns without kickback. You know even though we had to spend 30 dollars today for a service that was paid for but couldnt get anyone to return our calls from capital Subaru. the wilsonville Subaru was amazing best 30 dollars for a wake up call. once we get through our 5000 mile inspections with capital Subaru, we might be more driven to drive from salem to wilsonville, possibly Corvallis oregon for the back up, on a new future car, we have alot of Subaru drivers in our family and they said they wont bother going there either if things dont improve. I hope that things change for the better..very disappointed, jordan has been the best out of the two, kim is the one that always seems to think its ok to talk down to my wife and myself. Update car was supposedly repaired on May 8. Car yet again died today May 22. I'm not sure if it's a Subaru thing or if it's the people at this dealership don't know how to check batteries and repair cars properly but something is amiss. Jury is still out and I will update review if they come through. My elderly parents bought a Subaru hybrid Crosstrek from this dealership in 2020. Recently they have had loads of issues with getting stranded all over due to the car dying and not starting just flashing light. This has happened 3 times now. She brought the car in 5/2/23 for a diagnostic repair in hopes of fixing whatever was wrong. They didn't "find anything wrong" She was NOT told there were 2 recalls one that could have caused break failure and could have been done in 5/2/23 simply reprogramming the system. One recall parts to repair were not in stock. She wasn't told that either! I had to google and speak to corporate to find this out!!! They didn't tell her this. They sent her on her way as if nothing was wrong. 5/4/23 yet AGAIN the car wouldn't start. This time stranding her at the Eugene stadium with my disabled dad in the car late at night. Their Subaru roadside assistance didn't answer the phone or come luckily she had AAA who helped HOURS later!! Not acceptable. It took me 5 calls 5/5/23 (2 to corporate and 3 to Capital before I found someone willing to help and look into this. The car was literally just at your dealership 5/2 This is not acceptable to send people on their way with dangerous recall issues. My mom is now afraid to drive her new car for fear of being stranded again. Now thanks to 1 of the 2 ladies in scheduling (I wish I knew her name because she is the reason you're getting 2 stars not 1) can bring the car in Monday get a loaner and hopefully repairs are done on Tuesday when the parts are in. Very disappointed it took so many calls and that she was sent home with a car that could have killed her due to a potential break failure that SHOULD have been fixed on Tuesday. Please stop dropping the ball Subaru and take care of my parents' car next week or else I will have to fly up there to make sure things get taken care of! This is not what I expected out of Subaru and I am disgusted! It shouldn't take 5 phone calls and hours on the phone to get find someone to help. Horrible customer service 4/5 times is not a great look! It obviously wasn't safe because the car died the day after it was in for service stranding them in Eugene. Very friendly right off the bat. I was driving around the parking lot finding where to go where I was stopped by a salesman. He was very friendly and told me exactly where to go, also welcoming my dog and letting me know I could bring him inside the lounge. Didn't have to wait very long for service department to come out and take my vehicle. Very friendly and accurate wait times. Only waited a little over an hour for a tire rotation, inspection, and oil change. They had a beautiful dog park, lots of dog items to purchase, water bowls out and many comfy seats in the lounge. I purchased a 2004 Subaru Forester from Capitol Subaru. It was for my Teenage Granddaughter. The vehicle needed to be serviced and detailed before she could take it home. As the days progressed Capitol Staff continued to identify more and more reasons why it wasn't ready yet. I understand that it doesn't always make good sense to repair a used vehicle if it's not cost effective. I brought this up numerous times while we waited. I offered Capitol the opportunity to back out of the deal. They continued to indicate that the vehicle was great and would be a safe dependable for my granddaughter. Fast forward 3 weeks, it was finally time to pick the vehicle up. I drove it off the lot and immediately heard a disturbing sound coming from the rear end. I immediately returned to the Dealership. I was informed that they knew about this problem, they just didn't have the budget to repair it. Instead of being open and honest they opted to send a problem vehicle out for my teenage granddaughter to drive. I demanded a refund immediately, which they complied with. My Subaru had a broken axle and when it was up on the rack being fixed, my advisor said they found oil in my coolant bottle which could mean a cracked head or gasket issue. They wanted 6200.00 to fix it. I took it to Japanese Auto Connection and they flushed the radiator, checked everything out and kept it all day driving it several times and could not reproduce the problem. No evidence of any oil in the coolant. It is my opinion that Capitol Subaru put that oil in my coolant to make me believe i had a huge high dollar problem. I have purchased more than one vehicle from them and will never buy another one or have anything serviced there. They tried to rip me off! read more

To piggyback on what my wife said about the service we received on our Crosstrek, we're not saying the code read and diagnosis should have been free. We understand that an auto parts store could have only told us what the code indicated as a problem. My issue is with the fact that we had scheduled an oil change anyway and when the tech determined that an oil change could possibly clear the code, that's what they did and it did in fact clear it. Am I thankful an oil change is all that was needed? Yes. Do I understand that they had to take time to recheck to be sure the codes cleared? Yes. What I don't understand is why they couldn't reduce the charges when I asked. I got the same answer given here, "we have to pay our technicians." I guarantee you didn't pay them $160. Considering the requested and scheduled service we came in for cleared the problem and no further diagnosis was needed, it wouldn't have hurt you to charge something more along the lines of $60. It doesn't take that long to read a code. I get that you have your industry standard charts for every type of work that can be done on a vehicle and that it's your right to charge that, that's why I paid it. But I'd rather go to a mechanic who charges for what he actually does and who tries to keep costs down for me than a dealership that clicks the boxes on a computer screen for each thing they can and doesn't consider reducing charges when a situation like this occurs. $160 is excessive for the work that was done in this case. I'm a service tech in another industry and I understand overhead. But I advocate for lower charges for a customer when I fix one problem and it solves other problems. read more

I've never purchased a car before, and to be absolutley honest I had no idea where to start or if I could even afford a Subaru. I met with John M yesterday, and he showed me a couple of Crosstreks, but by the end of the night I came to the realization it was a little bit out of my budget. Justin, the finance person, was incredibly helpful and suggested I look in to the 2018 Impreza as it would be more affordable and very similar to the crosstrek. I came back the next day, and test drove the Impreza and it was love at first sight. Craig P helped me, and gave me loads of great information about the car as Justin and Bruce reconfigured some numbers to help me leave with the car of my dreams. I just had a bad car buying experience at Capitol Subaru. We went in to buy a used car. Found a Forrester 2017 we liked. Sat down to make the deal. Was told by the salesman that they are very transparent and we would make the deal no problem. We were offered a service contract for better coverage as this was a used car. We wanted it, but I had to know the terms of coverage for the contract. I was told by the salesman I could not see the extended service contract without first buying the car. I kid you not. I stated that we could Not sign a check to purchase the car without knowing the terms of a service contract that I included telling him I was perfectly willing buy. He explained that the sales manager would talk to us but he was busy with another customer. I then explained to the salesman again, all I wanted was to see the terms of the extended contract that I was Willing to purchase, but not without knowing what it covered, how long it covered, or what the price was. He stated that they have to have us agree to buy the car at an agreed to price and then they would run the number into a program that would determine the price of the service contract. Anyone else see how ridiculous this is? I explained several times, all I want to see are how much is the extended service contract, what did it cover and how long did it cover. I was told that that's not how their finance office works. By this time, I was trying to make a point...YOU ARE EXPECTING ME TO BUY SOMETHING WITHOUT KNOWING HOW MUCH I AM PAYING, NOR WHAT EXACTLY I AM PAYING FOR! The salesman went back to whatever room the mythical manager was, told us that he would bring him to us... an old familiar line that reminds one of the reason nobody likes buying a used car. In the end we meet the finance person, he explains what the service contract is and what it covers. That then is not my question, I want to know how long, and how much. He states he has to put the numbers into the computer and it calculates it out. He does tell us that it will take 15-20 min. We now have been here much longer than want, but we agree. I then explain to the salesman, the only person I saw, as I never saw a manager, that I came in ready to pay cash, all I wanted was the exact price and what it included, and they, who claim to be so transparent, to show me everything. I now explain, that whether we buy a car here or not, I am now upset, needlessly. I explained that a yelp review would follow and it would not be good. I never asked for anything unreasonable. If this was their way of doing business, it needed to change. In the end, I left the decision to my husband, as I was now upset. In seeing all the facts he decided to move forward. Would I recommend this place to buy a car? I would Not. Transparency= showing everything before you purchase...THIS WAS NOT MY EXPERIENCE. 8/11/2023 My car has ONLY been serviced at Capitol Subaru in Salem. I have always had my car serviced regularly. This time when I went in to have my oil changed and tires rotated, they found many issues. Including my Front and Back Windshield Wipers Controls were switched. As a Senior Woman on a fixed income with no mechanical knowledge, I know that I did not switch the windshield wiper controls. I did notice my windshield wipers were not working the same way as before upon getting my car back at one point. My question is: How do you think the Controls got switch? It seems to me, the only time it could have happened was at Capitol Subaru since the Windshield Wipers do not automatically switch themselves. AND now they want to charge me $160.00. Which after I complained they said they would correct at their expense. PLUS I have a slow leak in one of my tires, which is an unrepairable puncture. Luckily they have a tire in stock for $200.00. My question is: Shouldn't the low tire pressure light have come on? Now I need a new tire, BUT ONCE AGAIN, my Tires For Life Program will not work, because my tread is not low enough. This has now happened to me twice where the Tires for Life Program did not work for me. I purchased this 2010 Subaru brand new and as of now, I have never been able to use the Tires For Life Program for one reason or another. Since my tread is 8/10 and the Tires For Life Program only covers replacement around 3/10 tread, I am not cover again. Be careful with these programs or read the SMALL Print, because the tread amount was never explained to me originally. A Tires For Life Program should be that and cover defective tires. I have heard that people have a defective unrepairable puncture for other Subarus and yet they or I have not received any recall notices. We want others to know of our experience with Capitol Subaru Salem OR, with utter disbelief, how the service department handled our oil change for our Crosstrek. "Keep you completely satisfied is our goal, 'Completely satisfied' is the only passing grade" We are anything but satisfied with the service that we received! Dealerships have a known reputation for up selling and charging for items not actually needed at overly inflated prices. As a consumer, I generally avoid ANY establishment that operates in this manner, however we have also heard that dealerships want your car to run well and want you to be satisfied and likely to purchase their vehicles in the future. We purchased an extended warranty, so decided to frequent dealerships, to see if our opinion of dealership service departments would be changed. Our normal practice is to take our cars to small local shops where we know them and have used them, so we know they are honest and reliable. We have had situations where a dealer gave us a big list of ailments, and when we followed up with our trusted private shops, they looked at the "reported issues" and told us to bring the car back when it actually needed something. Among the recommendations that we were given this week were replacements for the windshield wipers, which we had recently replaced, this tactic made us wary of all the recommendations at that point! We brought the car in for an oil change appointment. On the way to the appointment some warning lights went off, including the check engine light, and we let the Service Advisor know this had occurred. After looking at the list of recommendations and we called to find out what corrected the codes and she said that the oil change would do it, the code "diagnosis" was for the very thing we brought the car in for in the first place and it fixed the problem, BUT they still charged us $160 to read the code, parts stores read these codes for free. We understand that the techs had to check and verify and would have understood a nominal charge, but $160 to read the codes, to determine that the already scheduled oil change could clear them then verify it? That seems excessive! According to the message we received back from a service manager, the codes were due to the oil being dirty and low. We were surprised that if the oil was so low we did not receive an oil low warning from the car? He stated that the code showed the cam shaft timing was off, due to the oil being found to be dirty and low, so they started with the oil change and rechecked the code, stating that the code was gone after the oil change. Great! Problem solved! The oil change that we had an appointment for was done and the car was back to normal. What bothers us is that checking the code, is free at auto parts stores, cost us an additional $160. This is outrageous. As a customer service professional for many years I understand that services are provided by a business for a profit, but if you don't treat the customers well, then they will no longer be your customers! Sometimes you have to look at the whole picture, not just the immediate opportunity to make a few bucks! The rest of the voice message made it clear that we were stuck with the "fees" because it was not something that could be billed under the warranty. Probably true, but now the red flags were raised! How can we ever feel like we can trust this service department to give us the service we need without trying to gouge us for unnecessary work on our vehicle. Is that really worth losing a customer? I found the following statement on their internet site: "Choose Capitol Subaru of Salem for more than just vehicle acquisition. Not only did we receive recommendations for products we KNEW we did not need but we also feel that we received the stereotypical treatment expected from a dealership with the upselling and the exaggerated charges. We are not satisfied with the treatment and service nor are we feeling that the Capitol experience "went beyond transactions to foster an enduring relationship". We are leaving feeling disappointed and cheated, not a good thing. And after reading other reviews, unfortunately, it looks like we are not the only ones having this experience. read more

My experience with Capitol Subaru has been unpleasant to say the least for multiple reasons. To preface, I didn't purchase a cheap car off the back lot, I spent $30,000 on a 2018 Outback. 1.The car buying process was irritating. I understand the limits that Covid has put on the auto industry, but there was ZERO wiggle room on the price - not even a dollar. They wouldn't throw in new floor mats either. 2. Drivers seat not bolted down. I bought the car, drove it home to Beaverton to realize the driver's seat was loose. Whoever detailed the car missed one of the bolts to hold the seat in place. Not to mention the detail was terrible. There was dried gunk on the outside of the center console and door panels among other gross findings. I would have brought this up before I bought it but it was dark and I didn't notice. After FIVE phone calls that no one was returning I was finally told that they would fix the seat. By this point I didn't bother bringing up the fact that the car was dirty. 3. DEQ/temporary permit. I received my replacement temporary window permit 3 weeks after the original one expired. Again, this took FIVE phone calls to get any answers. 4. Passenger window now won't shut. When I called today ask about getting this fixed too, I was told that the 20 year old salesman was the only one who could help me. No one in management or otherwise-and the salesman was not working today... I have had the car 6 weeks (3 weeks it wasn't driven) and have put less than 1,000 miles on it. I'm afraid of what will happen next with it. I would not buy another car here again and I'm advising my clients of my experience. I could see possibly getting this kind of service from a small mom-and-pop place (which is why I went to a large dealership), but was surprised to get the run around here. I'm not normally one to nit pick but a loose seat (unsafe), not properly licensed (I could've gotten a ticket) and having a a window stuck down (is not fun here in Oregon) all seem like valid concerns. It's unfortunate because I have been a long time Subaru fan, but this entire experience has been very disheartening. TDLR: Beware of the games here once you have signed on the dotted line. In my search for a new car, I ended up at the Salem Subaru dealership per a friend's recommendation. I was helped by Cameron Stinger who was honestly the least pushy, most helpful car salesman I have ever met. Walking onto a lot can be stressful and some dealerships make you feel almost accosted! Cameron cultivated a super relaxed vibe and gave me the space and information I needed to make the best decision for ME, not for the dealership. It was a very different experience than I've had before and I can't recommend him, Subaru, or the Salem dealership enough. They even let me bring my puppy in with me during the buying process!
