I don't know who Dave is but the person I spoke with was Victor. My wife's thirty year old Janome JD1818 that has never been serviced or even oiled since we purchased it brand new started acting up so I called Dave Make it Sew on a Saturday. I asked Victor how much would a tuneup cost. He asked what the problem is and said to bring it in because he would need to inspect it. So I drove nineteen miles each way just for him to look at it for two seconds. He didn't even plug it in to see what was wrong just to tell me a tuneup is $129 plus $50. I asked what the $50 was for he replied labor. I then said a tuneup is labor what if I need parts he replied that would be extra and If I choose not to repair there is no charge. What a racket. Why not just say a tuneup is $179 plus parts on the phone when I called to save me gas and about an hour in the rain. I even considered trading it in for a new one but he didn't even have the one I wanted in stock and said he couldn't do better that $50 trade on a new $529 Jenome HD5000 which he didn't have in stock. That barely covers tax. I'm so glad I left and called other shops including one in Whittier who quoted me $118 tuneup plus parts if needed. Fortunately I found a man in Pomona who comes to the house. He quoted me $65 for a tuneup plus parts if needed then came on a Sunday and repaired it in less than an hour. It works good as new for $65. In response to David If you actually had read my review you would have seen within the first three sentences I wrote that I first called and asked how much is a tuneup and was told I had to bring in the machine to be inspected. I was prepared to leave the machine if I was quoted a reasonable amount. Not " $129 plus $50 " with no explanation what the $50 was for. I believe reasonable people would agree with me. I brought my Juki TL to be repaired on Sept 2, 2025. Victor quoted me an estimate and told me it would take about 2 weeks. I called after 2 weeks and was told that my machine was not looked at but was told it would be looked at that day. A couple of hours later, Victor calls me back and states he is not sure what is wrong with my machine and would have to look into it more. Two days later, Dave (the owner) calls me and explains that there is an issue with the motor and it needs to be replaced. I patiently wait to hear back from Dave on the status of the motor. After a week passed, I call Dave back since I haven't heard from him and he tells me that he has reached out to Juki and his other contacts and had no luck in acquiring the motor. I wait another week and I call Dave again. He says he still is waiting to hear back on the motor. I explained that he had my machine for a month and if it's going to take some time for the motor to come in the I need to figure something out. Later that day, Victor calls and tells me that the cost of the part and repair exceeds the value of the machine. I asked how much it would cost and Victor could not quote me an amount so I'm not certain how if he even knew the repair cost or machine value. I was losing confidence so I told Victor I would pick up my machine. My husband picks up my machine and they tell him if I wanted to purchase a new machine they sell a machine similar to mine. A friend had told me about Dave's even though she has never taken her machines to be repaired there. I will let her know about my experience so she doesn't have the same thing that happened to me happen to her. I take my machine to Gomez Sewing Machine repair. Rey had my machine diagnosed and repaired in one day. He told me there was nothing wrong with the motor and was able to fix it for much less than Dave's. read more

Found Dave on Yelp . A piece of My mom sewing machine broke , we stopped in and spoke with Dave . Unfortunately he wasn't able to repair my moms machine . Due to it being very old and the manufacturer no longer make that model . He says he can try to find parts to fix it , but can't guarantee the work and if he can try to find parts for the machine. His opinion he doesn't recommend fixing the machine, his labor costs , might as well put into purchasing a new machine . We were bummed but appreciate Dave's honest opinion. We were mesmerized by all the quilt work on the walls . They do offer classes here so call if you need lessons . read more

I give two stars because of my specific experience and need. I'm sure they do well in other areas but not with wanting my machine serviced. I wanted to love coming here because of the high reviews but unfortunately I didn't...I brought my jammed machine to be fixed and was told it would be done in 2 weeks or less. I called 3 days before being 2 weeks and was told my machine wasn't looked at...I was then told it will be looked at the same day I called. I never received a follow up call that day or the next few days. I called after a few days passed and was told that Dave didn't want to fix it because it would exceed the value of the machine. I asked what was wrong with it and if there were any notes about the problem but said there was no notes only that he thinks there was a piece of a seam ripper but didn't remember and recommended to buy a new machine. I wasn't happy and dissatisfied feeling time was wasted with little care to follow up, I had to be the one reaching out. After seeing a repetition of people being recommended to buy a new machine makes me feel devalued as a customer. My machine isn't an old model and only had for a few years. As a customer who knows the value of the machine and coming to pay for the fixture, I was surprised at the response I received and turning away a customer. I took it elsewhere to get a second opinion at a reputable spot, Gomez Sewing Machine & Parts. Not only did he fix my machine, it was better pricing and was able to have it ready the next day. My serger broke and I wanted someone who does the repairs in shop instead of sending it somewhere else. Dave's place was a bit of a drive for me but totally WORTH IT. I took in my grandma's old (60's) sewing machine that was severely broken, in hopes that it could be repaired. Unfortunately, the machine was unable to be repaired due to the extent of the damage and being unable to find the parts necessary for the repairs; however, I fully appreciate the customer service provided to my mom and I during the period of time that the machine was at the shop. I took my machine in to Dave. It's hard to find someone to work on a 50s era machine these days. No problem for Dave! I was told about 2 weeks, maybe a little longer to clean and repair. It only took 10 days. And they were closed 4 of those days. Pricing is very reasonable. He even apologized for charging me to fix the bobbin winder!!! And who in this day and age says, here is my card. My cell phone number is on there. If you need something when we are closed, give me a call?!?!
