Hungry, decided to select one of their selection of Jamaican themed concoctions. So glad I did! To be clear, this is not a traditional deli, but that doesn't matter. Their "Datmac"s are Jamaican patties filled with a slice of cheese plus Mac & Cheese. They offer a range of additional toppings. Of all the Datmac options offered in this colorful basic hole-in-the-wall, I opted for the Chicken Curry. The friendly staff behind the counter readied it quickly. Datz is different, no question. I've had most of the menu, but the oxtail and jerk chicken are the ones I keep going back to. The oxtail is the crowd favorite for a reason super rich, deep flavor that just sits right. Comfort food but dialed all the way up. my personal favorite is the jerk chicken. This isn't so much a "deli" as it is a "specialty sandwich" shop. But it does NOT disappoint. They are known for their Caribbean offerings, most famous of which is their different beef patty sandwich creations, which come with mac & cheese and your desired meat selection. I tried the jerk chicken mac patty, which was as delicious as it was messy. It all comes wrapped within a coco bread, perfect for soaking up those late night alcoholic drinks. The service is pretty helpful and which depending on how busy it is, and if you can't wait to eat there is a table that may or may not be occupied inside. I only wish there were other "regular deli" options here, but that's not what you come here for. So I headed down to the Lower East Side to see what it was hittin' for. The place is small, and a bit tight. You place your order and step out onto the sidewalk to wait for your order. I got the daddy of the mac patties, the oxtail. I thought it would be heavy, but it actually wasn't. We came here on a Friday night around 7pm looking for a quick dinner. We arrived and it's a small store. There is a counter to order and one table with seating (there is an outlet also) and 3 metal bar stools. There is not a lot of room here for alot of people. We wanted to order a jerk chicken sandwich with a chicken patty with Mac and cheese on the side. Despite what is written, adding Mac and cheese to their meal deals cost extra. They actually ran out of chicken and beef patties when we arrived and therefore could not give us a sandwich that we were hoping to order. In return the lady at the counter said we can get a little bit of Mac and cheese without paying extra (she gave very little not a full sides worth) which was nice but also somewhat disappointing. As for the jerk chicken over rice itself. The rice and the collard greens were quite unflattering to be honest. Not much flavor. The rice with beans was not bad just felt a bit bland to me. The jerk chicken itself was some of the better jerk chicken I have tried. They did not hold back on the spices and it was quite spicy which I do appreciate. They have quite a lot of quantity, I could not finish my whole meal. Although I didn't think this meal was spectacular, for 18 dollars it's quite alot of food. I've hit up Rosenberg's plenty over the years, but didn't realize they had this burger joint now. The flavors in this sandwich will leave you wants more but you are too full to eat another one. I figure I get the original viral meal; beef patty mac and cheese coco bread. It was about $18 the service was ok the staff is fairly polite etc. besides patties datz deli sells a small selection of sea moss, drinks and snacks. The sandwich was pretty good albeit smaller than one would expect. A lil pricey for the size. The patty was of superior quality than than handful I got to try in my short NY trip. Very flakey just wish there was more of it in the sandwich. The oxtail sauce on the top didn't really add much to the flavor of the sandwich and kinda just made it more difficult to eat but I see the vision and a tweak to how it's served or consistency would go a long way. On a recent visit I got to try the very popular Mac Patty. ( Beef Pattie on coco bread w/ Mac & cheese and your choice of topping) A friend had been raving about them for months, so I knew we needed to pay them a visit. My 1st thought was this is going to be a lot but, I can confirm it is in the best way! I watched the owner while she made it and I think I drooled a bit. lol! Black owned business that is thriving and pushing out this amazing concept of Macpatty Sando's. Slightly confusing upon arriving you cannot see the door but it's the left. Once walking in you feel all the Caribbean vibes. They have bevs and snacks available in addition to the main characters! Now to the food... I got the Curry Goat Macpatty. When ordering the lady did warn me of the small bones that may still be present in the curry. I suggest taking the sandwich off the menu. While curry goat is a staple, searching for small bones in a sandwich takes away from the experience. The sandwich overall was solid. The patty was flaky and flavorful. This place was literally the highlight of my trip! After seeing a fellow foodies IG video about this place I just knew I had to go try it for myself and it did not disappoint. I had the jerk chicken mac patty and WOW. Tbh you have to give this place a try for yourself. The flavors and textures in the Mac patty are delicious and I've honestly never had anything like this; kudos to Josh for such a delicious masterpiece. I hit this spot up the night of my birthday on Thursday, January 18th, 2024. My cousins and I absolutely LOVED it. We ordered three different Mac Patty's. One oxtail Mac Patty. One goat curry Mac Patty. One Jerk chicken Mac Patty and a plate of Jerk Chicken over rice. Not pictured two chicken curry plates which we took home for my family. My parents loved it.
