Having used Windows computers since Windows 95 I thought I knew a bit about the Windows Operating Systems. Was I ever wrong! I had previously done the free update to Win 10 of two Win 8.1 computers and an older Win 7 computer. Those updates went quite well but I was not sure what to expect in updating a Win XP and a Win Vista computer. I therefore decided to visit DataDan. The bottom line is we got the Win XP computer updated only to Win 7. After clicking the "Get Win 10 icon" the update software did a compatibility check and reported the processor was not compatible with Win 10. The Vista computer made it all the way to Win 10 thanks only to a lot of hand-holding by DataDan. I turned to DataDan numerous times saying "what do we do now." In total I spent over a week at DataDan's store going thru the many, many Win 7 updates to bring each computer up-to-date. In the update process we found the Vista computer had an occasional memory management problem which confused us for a while until we replaced the memory. After that all went well. I have never met a person that knows more about Windows computers than DataDan. During this time I got to observe the many problem computers people bring to Data Dan for service and how he tackles each problem. Due to the nature of the work he is usually working on several computers at a time. It just blew my mind how quickly he knows what to do and how to fix the problem, be it a hardware or software problem. Some problems take longer to figure out than others but DataDan relishes the challenge. He thrives on problem solving. From the very first second that I was in the door he and his staff smiled and greeted me, giving their undivided attention like an old friend. Within minutes he diagnosed my laptop, and showed me that if I really wanted it repaired, the cost of OEM parts would make me very unhappy; and had me in a used laptop for a fraction of what the repair would have cost. Data Dan is a great find. He is very knowledgeable and knew just what to do. He restored an older laptop that was snail slow (and slower) to perfect health. I was so frustrated with it I was considering a new laptop. He checked out the specs and realized that the operating system was slowing me down but and an upgrade was all I needed. I appreciate that he didn't sell me anything I didn't need and saved me money from buying a new laptop. I sent a message outlining my issue with my Windows 7 problem. Dan quoted a price to repair the 7 and a quote if I needed to upgrade to 10. When a couple days it is working like a champ. I feel I have a brand new PC with Windows 10 and an upgrade. I couldn't be happier and what he charged ($73) was so much better than I could have paid from a larger company. I visited Data Dan to see if he could help with my HP Elitebook laptop and not only did he provide his opinion of the diagnosis, which HP agrees with, he checked to see if my laptop was still under warranty, which it was.
