We ordered the grilled trout combo which came with a choice of sides. We opted for the creamed spinach and zucchini. The creamed spinach was on the sweeter side rather than savory. The trout was slightly dry but had good flavor. The patatas bravas were crispy but had the same sauce as the bread. Next time would opt to try a different appetizer or sauce. The salteado de asada was the star dish of the night. The meat was soft and paired nicely with the mushrooms and green onions. Minor compliant was that there were some small flies around the restaurant particularly by the entrance.

Coqueta's Gambas Negras is an absolute showstopper and a culinary masterpiece in how to elevate a Spanish classic. Instead of the standard sizzling garlic oil of traditional gambas al ajillo, Coqueta poaches head-on Gulf prawns in olive oil infused with a deeply savory, umami-rich black garlic and chili sauce. The prawns arrive incredibly soft, snappy, and dripping with flavor. The hidden magic, however, is the sauce left behind in the dish. It is dark, rich, complex, and slightly sweet from the fermented garlic. Make sure you ask for additional grilled country bread just to soak up every single drop of that oil, and last but not least the Pulpo à la Parrilla. The wood-grilled Mediterranean octopus is a flawless execution of texture and smoke. In my experience octopus is notoriously easy to overcook, but here it is charred to perfection on the outside with a light crust, while remaining beautifully tender and meltingly soft on the inside. It's served over a bed of freshly dug pimentón confit potatoes. The potatoes act like sponges, absorbing the rich, smoky pimentón (Spanish paprika) and olive oil. It's a rustic, deeply satisfying dish. The topping for this visit was the staff, Alan was very attentive and made choosing items off the menu easy with his recommendations.

I had a hard time finishing it. There was a lot of sauce and a lot of different flavors going on. Yellowtail is already a very soft fish, and adding the tomatoes just didn't work for my palate. The overall flavor profile was just a little too much for me. I also tried the deviled eggs, which were decent. I'd definitely come back for drinks and to enjoy the outdoor bar, but I probably wouldn't order the food again.

They have done nothing to try to address the noise issue - the restaurant is all hard surfaces, no tablecloths, nothing to dampen the noise. Service was mediocre. The water glasses are tall and very narrow, so they don't hold much, so our water glasses were perpetually empty. Either get glasses that hold a decent amount of water or leave a water bottle on the table. We had to wait a very very long time to receive our bill when we were finished eating. All I wanted was to get out of there to escape the noise, so the long wait for the bill was frustrating. You pay a lot here. $9 for a piece of bread. $31 for a vegetarian plate of pasta. The online menu gives no notice of the 8 percent charge added to the bill to cover health insurance for employees. While many if not most SF restaurants add a charge for health insurance, it is usually lower than 8 percent. And YES, I did eat here. The restaurant is kitty-corner from Swenson's ice cream. We were indeed charged eight percent for employee health insurance as a line item on our receipt. I am not confusing this with another restaurant. Nice try. This place just wasn't worth having ringing in my ears for days afterwards.

The host was hilarious, friendly, and just the right amount of sassy. To get in, they asked if we had anything to pawn. We were caught completely off guard! We didn't have reservations, but since there were only two of us, they were able to squeeze us in for an hour, which was plenty of time to enjoy the food and drinks. I was pleasantly surprised to find orange wine on the menu. Coming from Oregon where it's everywhere, I didn't realize it was harder to find in the bay. Now for the food: do not leave without ordering the octopus. It was incredibly tender and perfectly cooked. Easily the standout dish of the night! We also had the salmon roe over eggs, which was fresh and light. The only thing I'd skip next time is the 'charcuterie board'.
