It's also worth noting that the business owner often responds poorly to critical reviews - feel free to look through them and judge for yourself. I sent my 16-year-old brother to this salon for a two strand twist, and the experience was deeply disappointing on multiple levels. To start, the stylist did not follow the clear instructions or reference photos my brother provided. The parts were overly large, the twists were far thinner than requested, and the style was heavily saturated with product. The final result looked nothing like what he asked for or how his previous twist looked. More concerning than the poor quality of the style, however, was what happened afterward. While still at the salon, my brother texted me to say he wasn't satisfied with the results. He was calm, paid in full, and never made a scene or requested a refund. Despite this, the stylist involved her adult boyfriend, who entered the salon and spoke to my brother - a minor who was there alone - in a way that made him feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. This situation was handled in a way that no professional should consider appropriate - especially when working with a minor. The stylist involved in this situation was Malika Creighton. We will not be returning. I strongly recommend others consider their options carefully before booking here. Darriah and her daughters are great! It's quite the family business. It's usually pretty chill vibes. They usually have music or a movie playing. I usually get my hair braided here, but have also done the silk press and trim. She trimmed up my hair so well. It was so unhealthy and now it's just continuing to grow. Their pricing is straightforward and if you show a picture of just about anything you want, they can make it happen! Oh and did I mention that services come with wash/shampoo and dry. I got serviced last Friday. It's been a week going back and forth about her giving me medium twists instead of small twists like I requested. She claims the price would be more than $300 so she gave me medium as an honest mistake. Surely she could've just told me BEFORE she started so I could make the choice for myself. Now here we are...twists have fallen out in the back, my hair is unraveling in many of them and most are frizzy. I sleep with a satin braid bonnet, so I'm unsure of what else I need to do to maintain these Dookie twists. I've asked for a partial refund. I've asked for a full refund. Pros: The salon is comfortable, peaceful and clean. It is one of the few salons that I have researched that still include the wash and condition as part of the service. Justin was kind enough to give me a complimentary steam treatment because of the condition of my hair. That was a $40 value that he didn't have to give away. I appreciated the gesture. It did wonders for my thirsty strands. They offer hair products and complimentary snacks which is also very nice. Cons: The distance for me is about 35 minutes which is a bit far unless the service is stellar. I'm not sure if Darriah may have been having a bad day, or she is just quiet natured (1st time customer) but she wasn't very personable or conversational. As a first time visitor to this salon, I didnt feel the hospitality. To be fair, they were short a helper and maybe that contributed to the vibe. - She also handled my hair pretty aggressively in the shampoo bowl and while blow drying. I have NEVER had my hair brushed out root to tip while wet. I have tightly curled- kinky 4c textured hair. I was surprised that a a salon specializing in natural hair would use this method to detangle instead of starting from the ends. Anyways, the detangling was pretty aggressive and a bit painful. The blow-dry was the same. A lot of pulling and tugging with an extremely high temp blow dryer that burned my scalp at times because it was too hot and too close to my skin. Although my trim was perfect - I left with a very tender scalp. I prefer a gentler hand for my hair. This is my honest review - good and not so good. Hope it helps someone else. read more

Malikah Creighton's service is beyond unprofessional and a complete joke. Don't come to this salon if you want quality work, professionalism, or any kind of respect. Her 16-year-old client didn't like the service, so he was texting his brother about it with a privacy screen on his phone. Instead of focusing on his hair, Malikah was snooping on his phone while doing his hair. She then called her adult boyfriend to come intimidate a teenager into apologizing. Maybe if she paid attention to his hair instead of his phone, it would have turned out better‍.This behavior is completely unacceptable, disrespectful, and downright disgusting. If you're looking for someone to actually do their job, I'd strongly suggest you look elsewhere. read more

AMAZING, booked an 6:30 appointment and came a tad early; Darya was already there waiting! The atmosphere was nice, entire place CLEAN, and displayed a professional atmosphere. As for service, loved how comfortable I felt and how focused she was while doing my style. I got the double strand twist with deep conditioner ect. The mist combo was SOOO relaxing. Overall I highly recommend coming to support this wonderful black owned business in the valley. It's RARE to find such great service for your natural hair these days. Next time I'm in the Phoenix area and need my hair done, I now know where to go! read more

I've always appreciated Darriah's craft and have always thought highly of her work. But after reflecting on a recent post she shared without my concent, it's clear to me that she did not value me. I recently requested that she take down images of me that I felt that was less than flattering, advertising insta locs. I asked her to take them down; not only did she place a mask over my face, she then reposted the images again! Because of this, I have decided to not support her establishment or recommend her services. It's also important to note, I haven't been a client for many years. My loctician, Ruth Anne, who is kind and lovely, would never speak ill of her clients, and would respect boundaries! She wouldn't post or say anything hurtful about her clientele and more importantly, would be open to feedback in a constructive and positive manner. I'm am disappointed and sad by the way my relationship ended with Darriah but still wish her the best in her endeavors, I just won't ever return as a client. read more

Minor update: I also left a review on StyleSeat and it looks line the style was changed from "Shampoo and Deep Condition" to "Free Consultation" so the review won't come up if you try and book that style. Perhaps that wasn't meant to be malicious but it definitely seems like another underhanded tactic used to maintain the facade of this being a "good salon" with only good reviews. However, a quick deep dive into these reviews show that is not the case. The owner responses are brutal to anyone who dares to rate her 3 stars or less but I have yet to see any responses to people who give 5 stars..... Nonetheless I'd advise to steer clear of this place. The owner also recently commented after two months and let me know that she would not put effort into my review. Which goes to show what terrible and piss poor treatment they give to their clients. I had a made an appointment for extensive consultation, and when I got there I did wait which I understand since I got lost , my husband and son came into her shop which I didn't know the rules of no kids or guests unless being serviced. My son picked up straws which when I told him to put them down she told him to not touch them, which I understand how kids are. My husband left with my son, I over heard her say is she still here referring to me. She comes asking what can I help you with? I said I have consultation, I explained my hair is balding damaged what can I do, asked me what style I showed her , she said I don't have enough hair for that which I understand, didn't tell me what I could do to achieve healthy hair, which on her site she offer hair thinning treatment which she did not offer me. She just told me to stop wearing wigs and clips, which I know, I came do you could help me re grow my hair to be healthy . She was rude and very short with me, even after I apologized if the problem was my son touching straws. I was immediately at ease that my hair would be in good hands and felt an instant connection. I am posing on this site also because I posted reviews on her site with no response. I wasn't happy with the service. I went in for a semi-permanent hair coloring. I got there early didn't get seen right away because she was still working on other clients I asked for honey brown she proceeded to give me a blonde color at the front of my hair and a lighter brown color at the back and by the sides of my hair. Also, my edges were blonde when I told her that that was not the color that I wanted and that I wanted my hair a bit darker because it did not look like the picture that I showed her as a reference after that she proceeded to give me a reddish color and it's a vibrant orange at the front because it was blonde at the front of my hair which now I'm stuck with. Not happy that I was charged for a double process for something I did not even want. And I still ended up giving her a tip. I Will not be going back. No apologies, or refund for her not following instructions. Was going to go back for a trim the following month but that will not be happening. read more

First, I am surprised Darya's hasn't been already added. This is a great shop for those of us with natural hair. She does it all. I was struggling to be done with my natural hair and just get a perm but after visiting Darya I've decided not to, for now anyway. The service was great. The shop is nearly a 1 1/2 hour drive for me. I was running late, in spite of trying to be early and she still saw me and I was able to get the services I initially wanted but couldn't schedule. She was very kind and knowledgeable about taking care of natural hair. I walked in with wool and came out with my hair silky smooth! It feels soo amazing. I will definitely be returning to my new beautician. She is well worth the money. read more

I don't usually take the time to do this but in this case I feel it is extremely necessary. I arrived initially to get a silk press and a small top part of my hair had not been taken down just yet I was charged an extra 85 for that. (it was literally just my natural hair in some braids as I had already taken my locks out prior to arriving) I completely understand them wanting to charge extra but $85 is insane. they claimed the extra charge was for the takedown and the fact that my hair had just come out of a protective style they would have to take extra time to comb out all of the gunk and what not which doesn't make sense because had I arrived with my hair taken down you still were going to have to comb out the gunk so I don't understand where someone gets off adding an extra charge for that. (It wasn't extreme gunk, just the normal amount of dried flaky gel/buildup from a protective style like locs). I then got my wash and stuff done and was put in the chair to get blow dried. Once it got to the flat ironing the lady who did it rushed through it so quickly and did not take her time to really make sure that it was done right she burnt my head the whole way through ( for the first day I felt the sting of the first-degree burn the whole day) multiple times and yet with all of that burning my roots were still curly. She then charged an extra $50 to trim my hair. I ended up paying $195 for a silk press and you couldn't at least take the time to go through my hair properly and not burn me. I have no problem paying money for A service but if you are going to expect somebody to pay all of these extra fees and what not you better deliver some premium service or lower your prices to match your service. All in all it felt like I was taken advantage of the younger ladies that worked there were very polite it was the older lady with the blonde shaved head. I'm not speaking for the whole face of the company but that was my first impression and it was not a very good one she was clearly running things and should have did a better job in keeping face for the sake of the company. there were three people behind me all waiting to get a silk press and I felt that's why she rushed and if she didn't have time or whatever the reason was then there shouldn't have been an over booking as she was the only one flat ironing. I just don't want this to happen to anybody else when you can go somewhere and pay way less for a service and get all of these things included and more plus decent hospitality and service. (As you can imagine my hair has not been holding up well, The ends are frizzy and the curly roots compromise how my hair lays down, I have not been exposed to any type of steam water or whether that would mess up my hair this is just simply the work of a rush job) read more

Took my 8yo daughter for feed-in ponytail braids and it is the first place I have ever taken her too where she didn't cry during any of the braids. Darya is kind, warm, gentle, and made my baby look and feel like a rockstar - without hurting her! They also supply the weave unlike most places. They just added a nail station too so mommy can get nails while kiddo gets braided! Can't say enough great things, we are so happy. read more
