Barramundi main was crispy, citric and perfectly juicy and the chocolate tart sooooo good. My new local favorite...yes in deed!

The latter which I had yet to experience in Brisbane. Sporting four areas, the venue has something for pretty much anyone. On Saturday, it was bustling. Almost every table will filled (which is good going seeing as they only opened on the 19th) and amongst the couples and a friends populating the venue, there was one big family table having dinner. It diversity of the venue was comforting and reminded me of the English pubs I spent time in growing up. We had one quick drink on Saturday and tonight I returned to grab a quick dinner. It was quieter tonight, which suited what I was looking for. The menu, in my opinion, is spot on in size. Bat snacks, sharing sized options, sandwiches, sides and bigger plates. It's creative, but not over the top or complicated. I opted for the chip butty, because chips in bread. Come at me. The bread came filled with shoe strings fries, black garlic mayo and homemade tomato sauce. It was crisp and saucy and... bloody perfect really. Sitting at the bar (it's all bar service), I chatted to the bar staff who were just the right level of attentive. I asked for a glass of red to go with my sandwich, a slightly odd pairing, I know. My glass of Pinot was light, velvety and was the perfect match. For a venue that's been open for an entire seven days, they're doing something right. Wait, scratch that. Everything right.

We walked coming from the CBD (it was a far walk...) and not up from the river, so it was a surprise to see a restaurant among car sales lots and business buildings. They offer us still, sparkling or filtered tap water. Extra charge for still and sparkling water. We didn't end up pairing the meal with any wine, but did get drinks (also very good). 6 courses (not including the bread starter) were: 1. salmon tartare: Fantastic. Don't know how the tartare was juicy without being fishy or having a strong flavor, but it was. Frozen yuzu was cool. 2. baby corn: Salty, but fun texture-wise. Hollandaise sauce was so good. I think it would have been fun to eat with the bread as well. 3. bbq prawns: Flavorful and delicious. Personally didn't understand the flavors of the apple tabouleh with it. 4. lamb rack: Someone said Australians really know how to cook lamb. This was my first taste of lamb in Australia. Not sure how to describe other than perfect. 5. lychee sorbet: Fine, but not memorable. I like lychee. 6. black sesame crepe: I thought it was a surprisingly heavy and filling dessert to end on, but my partner loved it. Even though I love black sesame, my favorite was actually the pandan gelato. It made me seriously hope that pandan-flavored foods are a thing in Australia, because they aren't a flavor trend in the US. I'm not sure if the bread was unlimited, but I did get to at least have two slices. If it were unlimited...my stomach would be in danger. Service was great and I left full and happy. Would definitely come again if I'm ever back in Brisbane, hopefully to try their regular menu.

Amazing food and great presentation. Definitely worth trying, a hidden gem in Brisbane.read more

I can't believe that I've only dined here twice but the food is absolutely to die for. The nibbles are delicious to kick off the meal, we had some tasty breaded olives that where perfection followed up with a Middle eastern inspired flat bread, the best I've had outside of Egypt & Jordan with a beetroot dip encrusted with pistachios and goats cheese - delish! We had the share plate special of the evening for our main shared between three & if it ever comes up again - order it! It was braised pork belly with an apple & apricot chutney, garnished with tasty BBQ King prawns - best! We also had it all topped off with the broccoli (do yourself a favour) and the spring salad all washed down with the delicious French rose by the glass. An amazing experience amplified by the fact that it was a Monday night in Brisbane (it's OPEN!) and you get to watch the light show of the gasworks ring.

Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? While my server at The Yiros Shop seemed to be no older than sixteen, he was very polite and efficient, and explained my options to me in a way that directed me towards some good options. I was disappointed that they didn't accept American Express, but I'm finding that's pretty common in Australia. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $15.50 AUD got me a pretty good sized mixed meat yiro, which was a pretty good deal even though, as you'll see, they skimped on the meat a bit. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I'll start off by saying that I liked the selection of meats and peripherals at The Yiros Shop, and it was clear that these were some fresh ingredients. Having said that, I felt a bit robbed of those fresh looking meats, and instead my mixed meat yiro was packed with french fries, tahini sauce, and vegetables with a notable lack of meats. That's not uncommon I suppose, but something to keep an eye on. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? The Yiros Shop was good, but there are so many great kebab or comparable options in town that I can't recommend The Yiros Shop with any sort of enthusiasm. No Star.
