Strangest seafood chowder i have ever had. Where was the white creamy base that is so common with this dish. Instead it was 4 mussels and 4 prawns and pieces of bread served up in a base of some gray colored concoction. Out of respect to the person paying for the meals, i did not send the meal back to the kitchen for an explanation. Observing other peoples meals in our group, i would say the comments were hit and miss. Personally, i will not be returning. read more

Can't beat a great Aussie fish and chip shop at this scenic location by the Cleveland Point lighthouse. Excellent potato scallops, oysters, crumbed cod, and tasty calamari. Can get a little busy so grab a table quickly and line up for your order around the corner. read more

Cold, Wet, Soggy food. Way overpriced. I went to the lighthouse restaurant to celebrate my grandmother's birthday. After waiting 30 minutes to order and then 40 minutes for the food even though we were one of 3 tables in the restaurant. I ordered the dory and when it came out the whole meal was stone cold. When asked if everything was ok I said my meal was stone cold. They went and said they would replace it. They then bring it back and they have just microwaved the whole plate. My favourite thing about The Lighthouse Restaurant is its location at beautiful Cleveland Point. With a deck overlooking the water, it is an ideal place to go for a peaceful meal with a view. I haven't yet had the pleasure of eating a meal there, but I have been for afternoon tea. We ordered the cheese platter, which was good value and absolutely scrumptious. The Lighthouse Restaurant actually has three different sections; the restaurant itself, a more casual cafe area and a takeaway kiosk built into the front of the building right near the restaurant entrance. The restaurant specialises in seafood but there is a category of the menu dedicated to 'from the land' options. There are also kid's meals and a long list of entrees. It's a little expensive, but nothing unusual for quality seafood. The cafe serves breakfast and throughout the day, light meals. The picturesque view is not available only to restaurant patrons, as the cafe offers an outlook just as serene. While the takeaway section is obviously less formal, the food quality is not compromised and the finest ingredients are still used. You'd be hard pressed to find something not to like about the Lighthouse Restaurant. The two storey white wash building sits on the quiet water front overlooking the nearby islands. It is the perfect place to wile away an afternoon sipping wine and gazing out to the water. This should be on the list for anyone who really loves their seafood. You can get it all here. The scaly ones, the hard shelled ones, the tentacled ones- all sea creatures wind up on the menu here. You'd do well to bring $50-$100 to cover your food and drinks. You can choose to sit inside in the beautiful, nautically themed surrounds, but you'd do best to get a seat out by the water. Always a great setting - ocean view and associate breeze help alleviate the Summer temperature. The Serloin was "okay" (probably shouldn't come to a Seafood restaurant for steak?) Sauce didn't help - just a splashy liquid with peppercorns or mushrooms sunk in the bottom (depending on your flavour). Service was courteous and timely. As a non-service/food related gauge however, despite the restaurant prices, the bathrooms are restocked with cheap, paper hand-towels that don't fit the dispenser. read more

Talk about location, location... the Lighthouse Restaurant in Cleveland stands where the Pier Hotel was built in 1879 until it burnt down and was rebuilt in 1936, then refurbished by the current owners in 2006. Why am I telling you this? Here's why: a few years ago, I was in a corporate planning day retreat and the venue happened to be upstairs at the Lighthouse. I'm not sure if that part of the building is still open, but I'm telling you, I could feel the press of the years, as we sat there at the top of a narrow wooden staircase, the Bay framed outside casement windows beneath the sloping roof. Gorgeous. Just like downstairs, where I've enjoyed Barra, prawns and bugs at various times in the restaurant, and fish and chips from the cafe at the other end of the building adjacent to the park. The restaurant meals are Cordon Bleu with a seafood bent, but there's a selection of beef, pork and vegetariamn options. Prices for mains are around $30, with a top notch seafood platter for two at $150 and lots of good things in between. Drinks are well priced, around $6 - $9 per glass and cocktails at $16, which stack up very favourably against some city fine dining joints. The best part by far as I'm concerned is the dining deck is on the pier - water laps the stone wall to the east and dolphins come around some days... imagine it on full moon summer night. read more

I spent Christmas day here with my gf's family eating the best seafood of my entire life. I'm no fisherman's son, so I guess it's plausible that a better place to eat seafood exists but I haven't come across it in my 25 years. I ordered the Barramundi with duck and had some dessert. It tasted incredible. The service was outstanding and their wine selection was very decent. The price for such a high-end restaurant is up there, so maybe reserve it for very special occasions. When I am feeling my seafood cravings kicking in I will make my way to the Lighthouse. They have a wonderful selection of seafood and with the beautiful seating on the water where you can relax whilst eating taking in the view makes it all the more enjoyable. They also do a mighty fine steak to your liking. Their desert selection as you would have heard can just about take out the staunchest sweet tooth. We have taken family here several times and we are never disappointed. The seafood platter is a favorite with generous amounts of fresh and cooked seafood beautifully presented. This cute old building on the waterfront is also a treat at high tide was we watched the ocean splash into the dining space and staff just smiled. This review is only for the Cafe and fish & chips part (it is 1 place "The lighthouse Restaurant" but is divided in 3 zones) and we have not tried the restaurant section yet which may be why some of the "bad reviews" are for that section. Anyway, we are such huge fans of this place, if I lived closer I would go there everyday. The foods in the cafe and fish and chips are always top notch. So are the drinks. It is CLEAN! And a lovely vibe. It is also right on the water. The staff is great, really not a single fault with this wonderful place. (maybe that it is a little but on the higher priced side, but still totally affordable and WORTH IT!) it does get packed pretty fast on weekend mornings. read more

Very disappointing and will not return. As a local I often promote our fantastic area, however this restaurant has let us down badly. Ordered a entree which was very small for the expensive cost and the main meal which was cold. Spoke to another individual in the restaurant who also had a similar experience. When approaching the staff, their attitude was 'off hand and not interested'. Manager was equally not interested and it took several minutes before any discussion occurred about our concerns and how they are going to rectify the problem. I have been a hot chocolate fanatic all my life. I have also lived in many different countries and continents since birth.... and I can say with certainty - The hot chocolate there, caramel especially. Is the most amazing from all home made, store bought, restaurent or cafe hot chocolates I have ever had. I come here once a week, and crave it the moment I think about it! The location is beautiful, very relaxing. Great location for sure, food was good, but the service was the worst I have ever experienced. Advised that we had table service but I had to go to the bar to get drinks, waiter dropped plates not once but twice, desert asked for a desert spoon not a soup spoon but was told thats the only spoon we have. Menu was for sticky date pudding with ice cream - we got sorbet instead of ice cream and when advising the wait staff member we were made to feel that we were wrong, that it was in fact ice cream. what started out as a great night was spoilt by wait staff who either don't know their stuff or are in the worry industry. As this was my first experience at the lighthouse its very disappointing that I had such bad experience. I spoke will the owner George who was very understanding and apologetic but I for one could never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Business is about people - and if you put the wrong people at the coal face you must be prepared for negative feedback. read more

This beautiful restaurant on the bay is a delight! The food is fabulous, the seafood is delicious and so fresh. The staff can sometimes be a bit cold and make you feel you need to rush your meal on busy days, but all in all its a wonderful place. Well worth the money. read more
