So now how I ended up at Vanity: I looked around on yelp and after reading everyone's reviews and visiting the salon it seemed super clean, relaxed, very nice just all around well kept. I was greeted right away by who I later found out was the owner and she was super sweet and helped me book an appointment. My stylist and overall experience: had Johnnie as my stylist and he is my life saver. He was so understanding of the purple mess that I was calling hair and worked with me to find the best option to tone down the purple/red and still get me a look/color that I actually wanted. He was so helpful and after we decided a color, he wanted to do a strip test to make sure I would like how the color would actually turn out. He was just so friendly, considerate and knowledgeable in how to fix what I had done and we talked the whole time so there was none of that awkward silence. He taught me so much about my hair and explained things to me so that he knew I understood exactly what was going on throughout the entire process. This salon is easily $100-$125 more expensive just because of the area it's in, keep that in mind. Overall, I would give my hair a 6 out of 10 and my experience a 4 out of 10. I got a partial "balayage" and hair cut, and at this point I know that some salons don't do actual hair painting, it's basically sporadically placed color, and while the color itself is fine, I don't anticipate this growing out as well as it has other times I've gotten my hair done - I can tell because I've been getting my hair done for 20+ years at this point so that's a little unfortunate. But aside from this, I would have appreciated if she let me know she was charging me for more color - other salons haven't done this as often, but they do let me know when they do. Even with full "balayage" at other places, I haven't always been charged for more color so this was unexpected. Even if she just gave me a heads up though, I would have appreciated it. The haircut was very basic and simple even though I asked for long layers. The blow dry was also "okay" - I ended up going home and adding more volume into it myself. Most importantly though - the stylist was not engaging at all. I'm a new customer, she didn't ask anything about me. Made no effort to put in conversation with me. It is so unlike any experience I've had at a hair salon. I even asked her questions to get the ball rolling and there was barely anything back. 3-4 hours in a salon chair is a long time for such lack of conversation, it's very disappointing. Like I said - my experience wasn't "bad" or "horrible" but I am not going back and I would not recommend the salon.

This was my first visit and it will definitely not be my last. Ashley's years of color expertise and careful listening skills left me with the most gorgeous hair I have had in years. The salon is small and private and looks out upon a beautiful courtyard with orchids and other lovely plants. Because it is a small salon there is no noise or chitter chatter going on in the background from other stylists or customers which led to a very calm and relaxing experience.
