I didn't have a "negative" service at this salon but it was "mediocre" at best, especially for the cost. This salon is easily $100-$125 more expensive just because of the area it's in, keep that in mind. Overall, I would give my hair a 6 out of 10 and my experience a 4 out of 10. I got a partial "balayage" and hair cut, and at this point I know that some salons don't do actual hair painting, it's basically sporadically placed color, and while the color itself is fine, I don't anticipate this growing out as well as it has other times I've gotten my hair done - I can tell because I've been getting my hair done for 20+ years at this point so that's a little unfortunate. But aside from this, I would have appreciated if she let me know she was charging me for more color - other salons haven't done this as often, but they do let me know when they do. Even with full "balayage" at other places, I haven't always been charged for more color so this was unexpected. Even if she just gave me a heads up though, I would have appreciated it. The haircut was very basic and simple even though I asked for long layers. The blow dry was also "okay" - I ended up going home and adding more volume into it myself. Most importantly though - the stylist was not engaging at all. I'm a new customer, she didn't ask anything about me. Made no effort to put in conversation with me. It is so unlike any experience I've had at a hair salon. I even asked her questions to get the ball rolling and there was barely anything back. 3-4 hours in a salon chair is a long time for such lack of conversation, it's very disappointing. Like I said - my experience wasn't "bad" or "horrible" but I am not going back and I would not recommend the salon. read more

I wanted to love my experience with Jenna at Evolve, especially for a $100 blowout before an important life event, but it honestly felt very cold and rushed. I mentioned I was getting ready for a special occasion and there was basically no conversation, energy, or effort to make the experience feel enjoyable or personalized. The styling itself also felt underwhelming. I was told my hair probably wouldn't hold, and only a very light amount of hairspray/product was used. Unfortunately, I left feeling like I could have achieved the same result at home myself. At this price point, I expected more attention to detail, warmth, and overall service. read more

Daisy was great and did an amazing job on my facial. Highly recommend and will be visiting again soon!

The picture on the right was what i requested which was layer and face framing. I left the salon with my hair wet and only didn't get the haircut i asked for. I made an appt for a haircut, i got charged $95 for a haircut plus $15 for a bang trims? that is ridiculous. Haircut means you get all of your hair done wdym charging extra for cutting half inch of my bangs?! i will not recommend this place to anybody!! especially Marissa, so rude and unprofessional. Had a facial with Daisy yesterday. Absolutely wonderful!! I will be back. Daisy was terrific!

Moving from LA/Santa Barbara I was worried I may not find a hairdresser I liked as much as mine in SoCal. WOW am I happy I found Evolve Salon! Katlyn is an artist. I had been lightening my hair for nearly twenty years and tried a handful of times to return to my natural color only to run back to the salon for color correction within 24 hours each time. Katlyn was able to return me to my natural, ashy blonde PERFECTLY! I showed her a few pics and voila, after two hours I had EXACTLY what I had asked for. I couldn't be happier. Even if I end up back in SoCal I am making the trek back to Carmel to see Katlyn. read more

Absolutely in love with my extensions. I was coming back from a massive postpartum shed and looking to find the least damaging extensions for my very fine fragile hair. I was very relieved to find that Katlyn does invisible bead extensions. The color match if flawless, the weft is completely hidden. I've tried many types in the past ( tape, single bond, weft, halo) and these are by far the most inconspicuous. If you've had extensions you know about the "wind" factor. I cannot recommend her enough. read more

Amazing, first-time visit with Katlyn! I've never done more than box dye at home, so the idea of coloring my hair at the salon has always been a little intimidating to me. Highlights vs. bayalage, cool/warm undertones ... I don't know any of it! Katlyn explained everything about my partial balayage so easily and made me feel so comfortable. We also did a haircut and root touch-up. I love the results and am so glad I took the chance and decided to treat myself at Evolve Carmel. The salon is tucked away in downtown Carmel. Super-cute, very clean, and COVID protocols are followed which I appreciated. Thank you, Katlyn, for the much-needed boost. Highly recommend! read more

She done the great job transforming my lumpy hair to bouncy with blended highlights in medium-dark caramel with some semi lighter medium walnut color. It looks naturally blent. Literally the moment I left the saloon, people started giving me complements on my hair. Love the color and cut from Salma. Love the weight and look. The playlist while getting my hair cut was amazing. read more

I don't know why there are many good reviews but I'm not happy with the result. I wanted permanent color for the highlights I had but Salma insisted not permanent color. After getting color done, I was told that it will come off after 20 times of wash. I have two kids and don't have time to go get my hair done every month. I never my dye hair and I don't plan getting my hair done soon. Now I see the part she put color and she didn't do roots so I can see the different color between my hair and the roots. Not pretty, not professional. Will not come back. Wish I didn't tip her. Not worth. read more

After four months in quarantine, I was ready for some quality time with my husband and, what a surprise, we would spend a night in Carmel. While he golfed, I would have my hair done. I was ready for a change. Salma was a gem to work with. She asked me questions and offered her opinion. Before this, I had all over color in my hair and I was ready for something new. Using her skills in root touch up and balayage color technique she listened to me and gave me what I was hoping for! I would definitely return to Evolve and Salma for my hair needs. I have bleached blonde hair usually, with super dark Asian hair naturally that tragically grew out several inches during the quarantine lockdown. On more than one lapse of sane judgement I SERIOUSLY considered just going through with the box bleach, but thankfully the little logical voice at the back of my head whispered "don't do it, don't do it" over and over again (remembering flashbacks of when failed at it years earlier *shudder*). I went into Evolve Salon and was greeted kindly by the owner, Katlyn, and taken care of all day. She just started her business and has been preparing and renovating during the lock-down. She spent hours on my sad, tragic roots and made a bunch of suggestions to help with maintenance. She also gave me the cutest haircut ever! And to top it all off her prices are very reasonable. This was my first time getting babylights, and got it done with Lily! I have black Asian hair, so I knew that getting it to the blond I wanted was going to take a few sessions. Lily was honest about the process, and explained that my hair might take a few of sessions to get the color I want since my hair is dark. I trusted her, and I'm so glad I did!! It turned out better than the picture I showed her. She was also very easy to talk to, especially since I was there for 4+ hours. Her and the rest of the evolve employees were very professional! Katlyn is phenomenal! She is the hardest most detailed stylist and makes me look as a model incredible. She does my extensions and has colored my hair as amazing colorist to blonde and brunette. Evolve Salon - Hair Stylists Near Me - Carmel-by-the-Sea, California

I'd like to start off by saying I'm not a picky client.. but I can imagine how frustrating it can be when your client comes in not knowing what they want. That's me. I'm that client. I will tell you what I don't want and I am entirely satisfied with anything different, honestly. Katlyn L. sat me down and created an amazing environment. I was so comfortable, it felt like we knew each other for years! I knew a little bit about what I wanted but was open to new ideas. I had extensions that I wanted to use and let her know I was looking for volume and not necessarily length. We decided on a root touch up and then Katlyn suggested after we applied the roots that we add some brightness to match the extensions. I agreed and we moved forward. In the time we did a root touch up I also got an amazing balayage.. winning! While Katlyn was putting my extensions in she suggested I keep the length and instead of adding the tons of extensions I had, she placed them in a way that would provide even length, some added volume, but without the INSANE amount of hair. Honestly, that's the only reason I didn't want the length was because of how much hair was on my head when they were in. I am so happy with my results! She gave me not only amazing hair, incredible service, but hair I didn't even know I wanted when I walked in. I will absolutely be coming back and I can't wait to see what is next! Thank you Katlyn! read more

Loved my hair. Need to have it done again but lost my hairstylist info

Let me start off by saying that I have a TON of long, thick hair. Normally when I walk into salons the hairdresser freaks out but when I came into Evolve Salon, Katlyn the owner made me feel very welcomed and was genuinely excited to work on my hair which brought lots of relief to me. I showed Katlyn a picture of what I wanted done and she truly exceeded my expectations. She is AMAZING at what she does and made me fall in love with my hair. I got a balayage and haircut done on virgin hair. Her prices are super reasonable and totally worth it. If your hair needs some saving, definitely come to Evolve Salon because you will NOT regret it! After reading reviews on Google I decided to stop in Evolve Hair Salon for a root touch up, a few highlights and a trim. Katlyn was wonderful about getting me in on a Friday morning. I have been going to the same hairdresser in Southern California for 20 years and was nervous about anyone doing my color. Stop me there, she has it all under control. When I came home my husband said he thought she did a better job than I normally get. It was lighter, brighter and styled perfectly. Don't let being out off town stop you from getting your hair done! Evolve Salon is the place to go. Trust me.. read more

I made an appointment with Kaitlyn based on her excellent reviews and was looking forward to a great cut. When I arrived for my appointment at 11am I was handed off to Salma who wasn't sure what to do with my color. Kaitlyn was very supportive of Salma and giving her tips about what to do. We decided on baby lights with purple highlights. After being at the salon for 8 hours the picture below is what happened. I was not leaving with my hair like that and Salma called Kaitlyn for help as the shop had long since been closed for the day. Kaitlyn came in from home to help cover up the mess that was created and did a good job making it a dark brown (darker than I had been in years). After Kaitlyn left and my hair was finished Salma said she was only going to charge me for the baby lights (which I never really got) and was not going to charge me for "fixing" the color (to a color I never wanted) and the total charge was $400. I did not think that was an appropriate charge for the services received. While I realize it took all day and a lot of product it was also a long day for the customer to sit in the chair and have a horrifying result. I did watch clients all day having their hair done by Kaitlyn and Lily with amazing results. I feel that I got pushed off on a newer stylist that was in way over her head. Hopefully Salma has learned a lot in the last 6 months since this disaster. read more
