I was in town for only a day but they squeezed me in for the best mani/pedi by Adrianna and an amazing base/highlight/trim by Heidi the owner. I wanted a little color correction and Heidi listened and after I showed her a couple of pics she entirely got me. She treated me to a hair treatment. I bought almost the whole line of Formula 18. Just had my first appointment for a haircut, highlights, toning and styling with Heidi and am so happy! For the past year, have been looking for a great hair stylist in the area and have found her. Heidi is highly skilled, does excellent work and listens carefully to what her clients request. She is also a kind, joyful person. As a new customer the reception was less than friendly or accomodating. When they shampooed my hair I got soaked. They never put a towel or apron around my neck so the water went down my shirt and pants. When I asked them to get some towels the hairdresser responded in a non chalant manner....like.. you expect a towel with this haircut too? I've just come from having my hair done by Timothy for the first time. It DEFINITELY will not be my last! I see the beginning of a beautiful relationship :) I went to Timothy on a referral and I need to bring that lady flowers or something. I came to the salon today wanting to freshen up my highlights and cut; I wasn't expecting to feel and look like a movie star, but I totally did! Timothy not only gave me a great cut and a style that was fun and me-but-better, but more importantly, he helped to correct an off-tone for part of my hair and gave me the most gorgeous soft blended highlights. I literally left with a golden halo. Timothy specializes in bayalage - a method of highlighting where he hand paints the strands of hair that would naturally see the most light. With this method, there is no ugly foil line with new growth..you can't tell where the light starts. What you end up with is effortlessly blended stunning natural color. I came for a shampoo and blowout, and Andrea did not disappoint! I made a last minute appointment on a Saturday afternoon, and was due to attend a wedding in Monterey a few hours later. This gorgeous facility was well-appointed and welcoming, and had an upscale elegant vibe. I was greeted warmly when I walked in the door, and was in the chair promptly. The shampoo and condition was relaxing and I felt my tensions washed away. My hair is just below shoulder length, and thick. Andrea worked the dryer and brush nonstop and achieved the volume and smooth look I was seeking. It was a lot of work! A young lady there named Jessica cut and styled my hair and beard. It's amazing. After a lifetime of short, military hair, I decided to grow it out. A friend suggested Jessica to me. They raved about her talents and they were right. I gave her full artistic license to cut and style my hair and beard. I couldn't be happier. I was a bit nervous about it at first but she quickly made me feel at ease and we actually had a lot fun with it. I HIGHLY suggest letting her do your hair. She's fantastic. I was looking for a hair stylist for my bridal party in Carmel. My hairdresser recommended Heidi's Studio. My experience with Heidi's Studio is good overall. The consultation went very well. We were able to decide on a style for my five bridesmaids with very different hair types. I felt like I was in really good hands. The day of my wedding went very well too. My grandmother asked for a last minute styling session and the stylist was able to fit her in. It was a very busy day hair-wise. The reason that I am not giving Heidi's Studio five stars is because of pricing. Usually with weddings there are set prices that include the consultation and there is a set amount for the deposit. Heidi's Studio did not have a set price. I spent a lot of time emailing, trying to reach Heidi and going back and forth about price. The reason for this is not all of my bridesmaids needed an up-do. My junior bridesmaids only really needed a blow out, which usually costs less than an up-do. We spent a lot of time sorting this out. More time than I would have liked. read more

Horrible service. Worst haircut ever. I have gone to Andrea several times and been satisfied with my haircuts. This time I went and she was very distracted. She did everything I asked her not to including cutting my bangs way too short. When I expressed my unhappiness she simply dismissed it by saying that hair grows back! She did not give me any layers which I had expressively asked for and did not offer to fix the haircut once I told her how unhappy I was. Lily did my blowout for my wedding and I was so pleased!! I was referred to her after my lady at O Salon across the street couldn't do my hair on the day I needed so I went with Lily without a trail and was super nervous but after meeting her I was so pleased. She used a really cool blowout kit and set the curls and then went over them with the curling iron as needed. Cherie from Heidi's traveled to my hotel to do my hair and make-up for my wedding day - she also did my mother's hair, my officiant's (who is a close friend), and my Maid of Honor (the only attendant I had)...and her co-worker Dawn did the make-up for those 3 ladies. Cherie is an absolute sweetheart and so good at what she does. She created a very unique hairstyle for each of us - my MOH wasn't crazy about her first 'do, so Cherie whipped up a second style in about ten seconds - which was stunning and my MOH absolutely loved! Cherie was also very willing to take my suggestions and listen to any concerns I had about my hair & make-up. I was very pleased with the results - everything still looked natural but enhanced, and my hair stayed put almost all day/night (one little curl kept escaping, but not until about 8 hours after it had been styled!). First things first: Darla is a magician! Like any woman, it is hard to put faith in a strangers hands (or scissors) to cut hair. BUT, I found the secret to trusting somebody and giving in, It is Darla. I moved to Monterey a couple years ago and since then, my hairdresser back home has stopped cutting hair. Because of my fear of a bad haircut done by a professional, I have done it myself since then (I do alright with some scissors and a mirror). But, because of tax returns, a happy wallet and coincidence, I decided to give a professional hairdresser a try again. I called the salon in the morning, and got an appointment that same days afternoon. As I walked in, I was greeted with a big smile and wonderful hello. She listened to all of my "When so and so happens, my hair does this... and I want my hair not to do this and do that" And we started the journey. She was lovely and friendly and I felt so lucky to have been her client today. I did not feel just like a client, she made me feel welcome and as if I were a long time friend. I mentioned she had good review on yelp and she said she didn't ever check yelp. I am surprised because 99.9999999% of reviews are 5 stars for her. I came from out of town and did some research before deciding on whom to go and where to go. I decided on Darla, after reading many years of back reviews at different salons. I was not disappointed. She was very nice, very patient, and very thorough. I had my first color (highlights or lowlights or whatever they are called) ever, and she took her time looking for just the right color. I was very, very happy with the color. I am even more exstastic with the cut. I have long brown hair that was just sort of lifeless. She carefully cut all sides of my head, paying attention to every last detail. I have had my hair done in many places and in many countries, but she really gave me the best haircut for my particular hair and it's quirks that I have ever had. I can very easily blow dry it and I don't have to always wear it back or partially back, which had basically become my norm because there was just too much hair with which to do anything else. My stylists name was, Andrea, a Latin woman, who seemed nice and professional at first but ended up being quite rude and impatient. I was happy with the end result but throughout my appointment she was unpleasant, questioning what I asked her to do with my hair and actually criticized the makeup I brought in for my face. My bridal experience at Heidi studio was not pleasant until I met Lilly Wekell. My husband and I are from San Francisco and had our wedding in Big Sur on 8/1/2015. I wanted a causal look (light make-up and Olivia Palermo ponytail) for the wedding. I went to the salon for a hair and makeup trial 3 weeks before the wedding (makeup by an artist who shall rename anonymous (name starts with an A and hair by Lily Wekell) and my make-up turned out horrific. My appointment was at 3pm and I arrived at 2:50pm. I was told the make-up artist was running 15 mins late and I was pretty bumped, nonetheless, my appointment did not start until 3:25pm. That had already put me in a pretty bad mood (hello elusive customer service and warning sign #1!) Before she started working on my face, I had emphasized to NOT cake my face. I don't normally wear make up and I wanted to look natural and myself the day off. I provided my own concealer, foundation, and air flash by dior and instructed the anomoyous make-up artist on how to use them. Apparently she did not bother to listen, she sprayed the air flash directly to my face instead of on a brush (warning sign #2). She then painted my face with another layer of foundation and set it with translucent powder. By then, I already looked as pale as a ghost. The eye makeup was even worst, I looked beaten up and had black eyes. She continued to re-assure me that I looked gorgeous. I was thinking in my head "are you f-ing serious?" Just because I don't normally wear a lot of make up does not mean I can't distinguish ugly vs. beautiful. (See picture #1 done by anonymous make-up artist). Anyway, to make a long story short, I did not go with her for the actually wedding day and was prepared to do my own make up. My hair trial, however, turned out absolutely perfect. I showed Lily how I want the pony tail done and various pictures of it. She listened carefully and walked me through every step of her game plan. It turned out perfect and had a high fashion feel to it. Remember my wedding is a day time wedding and in big sur outdoor. Anything too dramatic or heavy would not work. (see picture #3 of my pony tail done by lily). She listened, she understood. I am from San Francisco, and I go to some of the most expensive salons in SF so I know her work is way above par. I wasn't going to settle with some mediocre bridal hair just because I was in a sleepy-retiring town. As I left my trial with perfect hair and horrific make-up. I panicked and called Lily the next day and told her I just cannot have my make-up done by the anonymous makeup artist. I asked if she can do my make up for me. I told her I can handle my own foundation and concealer just so that my face won't be caked again. She ensured me that she understands what I am looking for and she is confident to achieve the look I want. I mean I was still pretty nervous at that point but I literally had no choice (the day was getting close and big sur is pretty remote). We went back to Heidi salon the day before and Lily did another make up trial for me. WOW, I could not have looked any prettier. This time I was 30 mins late. Lily did not complain, instead we dived right into work. She sculpted my face step by step very meticulously. She took at least 20 mins to shape my eye-brow to the exact shape that suited my face. She gave me the glow that I was asking for. My eyes were flawless and did not look beaten up, instead they look bright and big. I felt so relieved as I left the salon that I would feel beautiful on my wedding day. No surprise the next day. She arrived early and delivered exactly what I expected. I look natural, beautiful and with a glow. People waved about my make up and hair way more than my dress (a little upsetting but hey she did such a good job!!) One of the guests said I should wear my make up like this everyday and I had to tell them it took 1.5hrs. I did not want to take off my make up because it was so lightweight and it made me feel so beautiful. Others were like "I don't know how and where you found this girl but you are so lucky". Lily also did my BFF's hair and she looked fantastic. Without any time for a trial, she nailed it by just listening very carefully. Thank you Lily for making me feel soooo beautiful. After the rave reviews, I was excited to meet Stacia. She was running 30 mins late, but did not give me a heads up, so there I sat watching her run between 2 clients. She spent 20 mins MAX on a blow dry and shampoo, and charged me 68$ plus tip. Her shampooing was done with little effort put forth. She seemed bored. She put hardly any product on my hair, which was a red flag. Half the success to a great blow out is having it last and look super professional. By morning my hair was flat, though smooth, and looked like something I could have done by myself. I am only reviewing her styling.
