This is my ice breaker of the season, and wow did I love it. We dont get scared easily but thia did it for us. Love the spacing and timing they give each group.. everybody gets their own scare time. No over lapping with other groups in front. Family owned business. The owner his daughter they are all great. Pre-purchasing tickets with a designated time slot is a game changer. No more waiting hours for a spooky walk. A fabulous walk, indoor and out, with strobe lights and all the jump scares you could dream up. This place changes every year. A small food truck outside with treats, also takes Venmo bonus factor. They also had someone available outside to take pictures for you for free. *NO cameras inside for obvious reasons. They also timed it beautifully that people weren't gaining up on each other. read more

If you compare this attraction to other big productions that cost more money for each ticket, you might be disappointed that you didn't get all the bells and whistles. Keep in mind, this one isn't as big, so it's comparing apples to oranges. However, if you want to enjoy a family-owned haunted house with a room tribute to various of the well-known horror movies, this is an adventure for you. It starts with an outdoor experience then you continue with the house experience where you might be able to regroup before going forward. It's also a chance to spread the groups so you don't walk into another group or ruin the experience. It's about 20-30 minutes so it's not a long experience but it's worth the price. We went the first weekend it opened. It was empty and we got to explore as well as enjoy responding to the actors. We didn't encounter another group while in each room. Hands down, this is the best haunted house on Long Island - they know how to deliver a good scare! My only gripe is the vape policy. I get it, no vaping inside the haunted house. But forcing you to stash your vape in a communal bin outside? That's just gross. I even offered to remove the mouthpiece, rendering my device useless without the rest of the rig, but security wasn't having it lol it was bin or my car. I've been coming to Darkside since I was a teen and this year I got to bring my niece. We ordered tickets in advance for 6pm on Saturday. We arrived a few minutes early and there was a short line. After waiting about 20 minutes, it was our turn! They allowed our group of five to walk through alone. The outdoor area was very fun. It was maze like with lots of actors and scary scenes. You could tell that the actors were having fun. My niece was screaming the whole time! When we weren't screaming, we were laughing. After the outdoor maze, you get to walk through the haunted house. It's so fun! Throughout the experience, we saw Michael, Leatherface, the Terrifier, and more. The entire experience was about 25-30 minutes. It was worth it! Organized, friendly staff, refreshments available for purchase outside, lots of parking. I was so happy that the experience held up after all of these years and my niece really enjoyed it, too. read more

I really don't get scared easily, I just go for the fun. My friends invited me to join them at Darkside. I figured why not? Covid precautions in full swing; masks are required! It's a walk through haunted house with different things going on all over. While the actors/actresses can't touch you they still interact with you by slick comments and follow you for a few steps. It's quite entertaining and I laugh it off. :-) Is it worth the $35? Yes and no. It all depends. I do feel that maybe apple cider should be included, but that's just me. I did have fun! read more

Over the years Darkside has been my go-to place for Halloween scares. They really do an amazing job with the props and the actors are amazing. The location alone is creepy AF and you instantly get a haunted house vibe when you pull up. Be sure to do the outside maze as well. I'd say that it's half the fun and gets you ready for the indoor scares. I highly advise you to go at night. It instantly adds to the spook factor. If I had to find a negative with Darkside I would say that the price of admission has been creeping up yearly and this year is no exception...I get it everything costs more...Its getting harder for me to convince a group to spend that much to go. October is upon us (if you're reading this and it's still October), and there is nothing better then getting scared out of your wits all month long. Even if you don't like being spooked (i.e. my girlfriend), you haven't lived until you experience some "haunted house" hootenanny. And one place that does a superb job of making this happen is Darkside. To ring in the month, my buddy, sis, and girlfriend took a trip out to Wading River to experience this frighteningly fun spot. It starts with the fact that Darkside kind of feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. Driving along barely-lit roads until you stumble across the house that....houses this haunt only adds to the ambiance (and the name). Once there, you'll park in a field and walk over to wait for a bit before entering this indoor and outdoor experience. I mean, we waited more than a bit and there were only 15-20 people in front of us, but I truly can't complain about this because there was a reason. Darkside does a great job of staggering its "guests" so as to enjoy your time without a whole bunch of crazy screaming children around you (unless you happen to go with crazy screaming children...then you're on your own). Now I won't divulge any of the innards of Darkside, but let's just say they have some elaborate settings and good use of space to create plenty of scares throughout. Oh and the guy at the front before you enter who explains the rules is hilarious, just sayin'. Overall, Darkside Haunted House gives you all the thrills and chills that one asks for in a scary good time. You've got a whole month to get over there so do it while you can. Ain't nothin' like screaming your head off to round out an October evening. read more

Awesome time tonight at the Darkside Haunted House! It was great to finally have something to do at night!! First of all, I was happy to see all the precautions being taken due to Covid. Social distancing was enforced and hand sanitizer was readily available. Unfortunately there were no food trucks this year; I assume this was because we would have had to remove our masks to eat or drink. The actors were awesome, once they find out your name, they trail after you making scary comments. Going with a group made the experience all the more fun. We were all so thankful to be able to spend a night out in a safe and fun environment. Thank you Darkside!! P.S. Even the parking attendants were very friendly and personable!! read more

We went last weekend and it was great. They have every COVID safety precaution in place, they sanitize require masks at all times strictly enforced social distancing all while keep the scare level high. It actually made the whole experience a little more eerie cause your group is alone while on the inside. The way they have it set up is incredible and the actors were top notch. We had got to meet the owner while on line to get in, what a great guy who really has a genuine love of Halloween. This was by far the best haunted attraction we visited this season and worth the trip we will be looking forward to see how they top it next season for sure ! read more

Free parking is a caveat, but I spent more time in line than I did in the actual amusement. For the price, it was just a walk through several sheds with actors and a few animatronics. It took all of 15 minutes for $40. I have been to many better events in the NE with hayrides and different houses. It is so easy to do it right and this place really missed the mark. Very disappointed. Actors did an adequate job The other issue was control of the line. We had a group of 6 teen girls in front of us. After waiting for 20 minutes, they are joined by 4 more and 10 minutes later 6 more. Meanwhile, the guy managing line the line was over vaping away in an area no one is supposed to be vaping. My spouse and I went on a Thursday night to avoid the major crowd which is a good idea except they ran a half hour late. They tried to enforce social distancing and mask wearing as much as possible which I appreciated. Its definitely one of the better haunted houses on Long Island. I'm honestly giving this place such a low rating because the people who work on the lines as soon as you walk in are so unbelievably rude. The guy was literally screaming at people for getting on line early, that is not how you speak to customers! I understand they email you to come 10 mins before but they have cones in place for social distancing and then by the time they get everyone off line and make them come back, the crowd is even bigger! And everyone they kicked off line would just stand in a corner and obviously there couldn't be social distancing if we are waiting off to the side so their excuse of trying to limit the line so everyone can social distance is just stupid. The haunted house itself was fun and had good scares but my group and I were still seething from how rude the other employees were. They need to have a meeting with their non scare employees on how to speak to customers. read more

I would have given this place a 5-star review, but they were 90 minutes late with opening the doors. Insider Tip: the attraction opens once it's dark outside. We showed up at 6 pm and had to wait until the moon was out to get things going. Once inside: this place is awesome!!! Great special effects, great actors. It's scary-fun. Kids are allowed. I dunno why people go to Eastern State Penn. I've never been, but I know I wouldn't be about it. THIS was definitely worth the two hour drive despite having work at 6 AM the next day though. Everyone goes to Manhattan to get their haunted house fix. But despite being from NJ, we opted for Long Island. Everything in Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan seemed "average". This place was $20 and looked pretty sick. The drive was the only daunting part of the whole thing...but we about dat life. #yolo The wait wasn't very long. When inside, the actors control the flow and pace of your trip through the whole thing. For $20, you experience some scary es h eye tee outdoors, and then indoors. For $20. And being in the back doesn't mean your safe necessarily. Nor does being in the middle. I was in the front sometimes and missed some of the scares while everyone pushed me forward screaming. There was a ride that they don't have out when it's busy called The Last Ride apparently. You sit in a coffin in the back of a hearse while two funeral home dudes drive you around and talk about you as if you're dead. That. Is. Sick. This place is sick. I don't wanna go in to too many details, but there's just so much going on...25-30 minutes depending on your pace. My shoes were untied so it took a minute. Turns out I love being scared. This was my first time going here and I'm so glad I did. Don't want to give anything away because there are a few things I wasn't expecting. I didn't have to travel far to get here but it's worth it. I went last night and since it wasn't super busy got to go with who you came with. Everyone that works there was cool and stayed in character throughout the whole thing. This was the highlight of the season and am looking forward to dragging more people here next year. Decent haunt. The house is pretty good and the owner definitely get the whole haunt scene. But it's very short and not much to do after the few minute in the house. I like the effort, but it was not scary by any means. Most of the attractions were props and if you get caught behind they just walk past you without even attempting to scare you. As you are creeping along a pitch dark hallway....groping your hands along the sticky cold wall...you hear a creepy voice whisper..."You're going the wrong way!..." Live, scary people jump or sneak up behind you. Great actors! Spiderwebs come down on your face. Fog, strobe lights, giant spiders, giant pig bodies. You are outside and inside. They say that they do different things every year. I take off one star because - is it worth $25 (after coupon) for 20-25 min.? You be the judge. An extra $5 for a "coffin" ride. You lay down in a coffin and experience what it's like to be transported to a graveyard - a bumpy ride! It used to be a potato farm, it's out in the middle of nowhere...about a mile past the East Wind Shoppes. They've been around since 1998. read more

Amazing haunted house! We went on a Sunday the weekend before Halloween weekend. The line wasn't long at all. We loved the setup and the props. The characters had great costumes and makeup and really knew what they were doing. The rooms are unique and definitely scary. 10/10 would go back and recommend. Wow! If you like haunted houses, this one will have you jumping and screaming from start to finish. You start at the outdoor section which seems to have expanded. After the first round of scares, you then enter the inside of the house. The rooms are very well made, creepy and gory and the actors are relentless in trying to scare you. It's a great time. It's pricey, $23 and if you purchase a "fast pass" online it's $33. You'll wait on a loooooooong line that's ultra slow but it's fun enough to be worth the time and money. This is a must for anyone looking to get into the Halloween spirit! read more

i don't know what happened this year , it was short and sweet. It was scary but not that scary and it was very short which was a disappointment. Last year i came and it was amazing ! Each year I try to visit all of the haunted houses in the area. To me this one deserves 3 stars strictly because of price. It was OK, but definitely not worth the $25 a person. Maybe it's a little early in the season and they have some improvements to make. There is an outside part first and then an inside part where the collect your tickets. This is deceiving because you think "wow, I thought the attraction was almost over but it must be just getting started" this is not the case, it wasn't as long as I anticipated. I first visited about 10 years ago and it was so great then as well. Its located deep in Long Island in wading river. Its located on a hug dark field, (already scary) so you drive in there's a parking lot area towards the back. The house: Looks like a haunted house out of a movie! Creepy looking shack with lots of haunted statues and a hearse parked in front. Several different rooms inside, lots to see! The experience: Actors are in full character mode, starting with the doorman you are greeted by out front. All sorts of different scenes inside, crazy doctor, crazy butcher, crazy psych ward and lots of darkness! They also have a haunted village, where your walking through a cemetery outside. Actors look real, and the house looks real, the show is awesome! There's a food truck in front incase you want to grab a snack or a cup of hot chocolate. On the weekends, there is a Long Island radio station that broadcast from there, we went on a Saturday, so we were able to enjoy the DJ. Its 20 bucks, which I think is totally worth it! If your looking for a REAL scare, visit this place! read more

I was scaredddd out of my mind.. my friends and I went & once we made it in we screamed from the beginning to the end. I legit screamed so hard at one point I almost threw up. Once we made it out we were still in shock, it was quiet hilarious because we out and it was over but we were all still screaming. The staff is deff great at their job, it was a drive from where I'm from but it was worth it & The price was reasonable ! can't wait to bring my family and scare the hell out of them.
