Finally made my way to D&D Caribbean Restaurant and the food was SO good. Like, OMG good…read more I ordered the brown stew chicken with a side of oxtail and cabbage (no rice for me). When I tell you that oxtail was falling off the bone? 10/10. The brown stew chicken was flavorful, tender, and cooked just right. The cabbage was seasoned perfectly, not soggy, not bland. Everything on that plate hit. No complaints about the food whatsoever. The space itself is small, clean, and minimally decorated. Nothing fancy, but very well-kept, and I appreciate that. Service was good. The owner personally took care of me and accommodated my request to swap out the rice for extra cabbage with no issue. I always appreciate when owners are hands-on and attentive. Now for the hiccup: the credit card machine wasn't working, so I had to pay via Cash App. Not ideal, but okay. What almost took me out was the attempt to add a service charge. I definitely spoke up because that extra $1? Yeah... it was about the principle. Sheesh. Overall, the positives outweighed the minor inconvenience. The food alone would have me coming back. And for me, that says a lot.

I quickly parked and walked in to place order. Btw-parking is plentiful due to restaurant being located in a small strip mall. The place is a decent size and neatly decorated, with an order counter in the back. I picked up a combo curry chicken and brown stew chicken with rice and peas, and cabbage. And an oxtail meal that also comes with rice and peas, and cabbage. Both were pretty tasty..after sampling both. And their beef pies are really good. They make filling and bake the crust in house (but outsource the dough), which makes a difference in the quality of the patty. The owner was really nice and professional, and packaged up my order very nicely. Highly recommend this place!!

I used been waiting for the restaurant to open for some time now and excited to try their dishes…read more The food truck now has a store front/brick and mortar. I took advantage of their Friday special, snapper escoveitch (sp?) style although they also offer it as brown stewed. I had to try their coco bread since it's homemade also. I'm sure I'll be back to try their oxtails because how can I not? I almost scream when I seen my cocoa bread! I could not believe I have fresh cocoa bread again like the last time I was in Jamaica! It was warm soft and pillowy. I had to make myself stop eating it so I could try the snapper. The seasoning on the escovitch was perfect! Perfect balance of spicy and acid made each bite exciting. I will never be a fan of whole fish because I do not like picking out my bones so there's a fillet on the menu for eskovich I'm definitely going with that next time.

Overall, it's not bad. Customer service is warm and friendly. Here's my point of view from someone who grew up in a Caribbean and Creole family. The chicken and curry goat are seasoned nicely. However, there's not enough meat for the price, IMO. The goat has more bones than anything and there could definitely be more chicken in the curry chicken platter. The peas and rice are meh -- lacking flavor. The plantains are just OK too. Steamed veggies are good. The cocoa bread is what it should be; warm and soft, and the beef patties are warm, flaky and seasoned well. I just tried the snapper escovitch and it was yummy! I've also had the yellow cake (yum yummy) and the cornbread (yum). However, do NOT buy the rum cake. Idk if the baker/chef had an off day, but my husband spit it out and said it was one of the worst things he's ever had. I was so excited for him to try it too. I couldn't disagree. It tasted like bitter fudge with a horrible aftertaste. Even the color threw me off. I was expecting a soft, semisweet cake with those hints of rum (or a lot of rum, ha). But nah. Save your tastebuds for something else, I beg. Overall, I'm happy to buy my signature staples and support this Black-owned business. I hope they get even better with time.

The pineapple ginger juice was also good, with more pineapple than ginger flavor. The total was $13, including tax. If you don't handle spice well, I recommend looking into jerk and curry flavored dishes before coming. I wish they had their full menu online because I like to get a sense of what I want before I arrive. Our appetizer was coconut shrimp. I am used to bland coconut shrimp but the shrimp here had a strong and fresh coconut flavor. My father in law had salmon with lemon butter, plantains, jasmine rice. He said everything was amazing. I ordered a Yardie Stack, which is a sandwich with a Jamaican patty of choice (I chose chicken), baked mac and cheese, and oxtail gravy on coco bread. Served with fries. The Jamaican patty was a little spicy but the sweetness of the bread and other flavors melded suspiciously well. That was a lovely sandwich. Fries were sub par but everything else was beyond any expectations I had, even the cabbage medley. My wife ordered fried chicken and I nearly bit my lip trying it. It melted when my teeth touched it and it exploded with juice. It took awhile to get food but they were swamped and it was worth it. My father in law also said the bread pudding is great and bought a slice to take home. The disappointing fries are a reason to be more adventurous and try the other foods. This was the best Jamaican/Caribbean food I've ever had.

After having parked nearby, we explored the spot. One side was where you would order food and drinks (no seating on this side). The other side had tables and chairs, including a full bar, and a large outdoor area - it was nice being outdoors when the sun was not hot (although I did see umbrellas and many covered areas out there in the back). Our event had a DJ as well. The overall layout of the place was nice, where I would revisit the business and maybe have my own party. This review is more for the carryout side. At the time, we were not trying to get a full meal, just something to snack on. I saw they had several patties available and when asked what they had, there were many choices. I don't remember all the choices they mentioned, but I do remember these: Beef, Chicken, Shrimp, Goat and Mutton. I got a Chicken Patty and a Mutton Patty - never tried either before my visit here. For drink, I got a Ting and Mango Passion juice (sold in a bottle). The Mango Passion juice cost a lot more than each of the other items I got. When we got our order, the patties were in a different bag, but the employee who was on the bar side couldn't tell us which was which. It was a bit of confusion, and we had to determine which was which for ourselves (I was not a fan of that). Both patties ended up being good. I had the Chicken and another in my group had the Mutton. I love Ting - it is one of my favorites. It's a drink flavored with both grapefruit juice and cane sugar. I got a chance to taste a little of the Mango Passion juice and could taste both flavors in the drink. Not sure I would pay that cost again though. I was still glad I was able to check this spot out.

And when it comes to CaribeExpress I'll admit they shocked me at how their curry goat platter separated them from the rest of the other outstanding Caribbean Cuisine Establishments. From my first taste of the curry goat, I was highly impressed with the texture and flavor of the rice & goat. The sauce blended everything together perfectly and left me savoring every single forkful. Their seasoning game is second to none and the way they cook their curry down tells me that the chef takes pride in every meal he or she prepares. The cabbage was delicious on its own and with the curry potatoes mixed in ( which always gives the curry dishes an extra umph to me ) the meal reached the perfection plateau !!! And to top things off, they have an amazing staff that greets each patron with great energy that says, "I'm eager to make your dining experience at CaribeExpress an awesome one !" Don't believe me... see for yourself ! And they have their own ample dining area with outside availability and chill music to vibe to!!

A stand located in the lot of Chesapeake Seafood, MadFlava serves up jerk chicken, jerk pork chops,…read moreribs, and various house made slaws. You can usually find them grilling up on Saturdays! We ordered the 1/4 jerk (dark) chicken (juicy and the skin came off easily), jerk pork chop (slightly tough and better with the jerk sauce), 1/2 a slab of ribs (tender and smoky), a side of the jalapeño cole slaw (it was crunchy and refreshing, and I liked the sliced jalapenos), and the Jamaican rice and peas (this was comforting). There were also some samplings of jerk fish that was being passed out, and I just wished we got this instead! The fish was super flaky and yummy! The jerk seasoning is all homemade, and it's definitely flavorful, with a great spicy kick!
