This is a really fun place for anyone who likes creepy or scary props. I visited with a friend of mine and we were approaching Halloween so their stock was not as full as it is in other times of the year, but we still had a nice look around. They not only sell your typical Halloween scary props but they rent out some of the big, high end stuff so you can have it just for a party of film. The location is very non-descript, and you'd pass it by without a second glance if you didn't know what you were looking for. No windows, and you have to ring the buzzer to be let in. Staff was very friendly and kind to us and there were many cool things I wanted to buy. I'm going to return when the holidays are over. I very much liked their selection of replica skulls, as well as the life-sized T-rex skull fossil replica. The last part that's really cool is they are their own workshop where they actually make a lot of the big props they rent and sell. So it's cool to see the stuff they're in the middle of working on as well.

This is the coolest shop I've ever been to. Makes me want to move to LA only so I can work here... The dudes that work at the Dapper Cadaver (best name for a shop ever - by the way) are super awesome. I remember stumbling upon the shop with some friends and they were pretty slow and could tell we were fascinated so they gave us a full on tour of the shop. They were able to show us some zombie-like creatures they were making for the x-files movie that came out a year or so ago. We must have spent an hour or more just hanging out and looking at everything. I took some photos and wanted to take many more but didn't for fear of being obnoxious. I told them I'd be back some day to buy a coffin. Ha. Lots of amazing props here. I could easily buy everything in this place... And plan to do so someday! :)

Love this place! They have separate rooms for the different themes: skeletons, large Halloween props, oddities, body parts, and more. There are items to rent and buy. I would have enjoyed staying longer to look at everything but am glad I squeezed it into my trip. My only complaint would be that most of the items I was interested in buying were for rent only. I would have liked to see all the rental items also be available for purchase. I only spent $50-60 but would have been willing to spend up to $500 to get ready for my upcoming Halloween party. Would totally go back again. Maybe in the off season when some of the items aren't already purchased.

This place is awesome. What a great display of horrifying life like sculptures, taxidermy items, bones , and artifacts. Some odd medical supplies as well. The art show / party last night was a blast. The drink selections were great and they gave out drink tickets worth $5 each which was nice. The music was pleasantly dark and totally appropriate. I met some very cool people there. We had a great time. It was a happy Friday the 13th!

This place is allot of fun. The store is separated into different rooms such as Curiosity, Skull, Halloween, etc. for your horror/prop desires. The store has a very unassuming entrance and you may feel a little like you are entering a building you probably shouldn't, but once inside the staff is very pleasant and helpful. We even got a tour of the different rooms! They do custom work with a fast turn around and have a super enthusiastic creative team. Whether you are in the market for Halloween decorations, a prop for your horror film or just looking for a good way to spend an hour, you should visit these guys pho sho.

Amazing work! The collection in here is just incredible and so realistic. They also have good prices on the for sale and rental items. They do rentals for movies or parties or whatever else you could use a cool prop for. The staff is extremely friendly and Jeff gave us a tour of the facility.

I probably visit this shop every couple of months and rarely leave empty handed! The thoughtfully curated and well organized candle department is usually my first stop. Lots of variety, a recent favorite is the "supper club" collection. Lots of classic Wisconsin themes! There are gifts for all ages, from infant toys and books to puzzles and cooking kits. The kitchenware is an impressive range, everything you need to expand your skills, store your goodies, or spice up your presentation. Basically, you have to stop in-it's totally worth it! Also, the wonderful staff have gone above and beyond to create a safe and protective shopping experience during this crisis. Please respect them, give space and keep those masks over your nose!

In…read morethe past, my experiences with the employees were also pretty darn charming, or at least satisfactorily neutral. The last time I was in the store, however, I was made to feel chastised and unwelcome, and while I recognize that this is a very personal response to an impersonal slap down, it left me feeling so stung that I doubt I'll return. What happened was this: I needed a new pair of reading glasses, and I'd gotten the most adorable Peepers from this store in the past. It was 5:50pm, and I saw on their door sign that they closed at 6pm. Great! I thought. I'll pop in and grab a pair. Immediately upon entering, one employee said, "You know we close in ten minutes." "Got it! I'll be quick!" I replied. I went to the rack of glasses, considered a few pairs, and checked the fit in the little mirror on the rack. In that little mirror, I could see the employee behind me, who was frowning and rolling her eyes in exasperation, mouthing to her fellow employees on the other side of the room that , "No, not yet, she's still here." Yikes, I thought, checking my watch. It was 5:55pm, so I chose a pair and went to the register. One last thing--I wanted to get an e-cloth, a product a different employee had recommended to me the last time I was there. I mentioned this to the employee as she grouchily said, "Will that be all?" She huffed, "Well, the e-cloths are in a different part of the store." She strode off, and I said, "Any one will do!" She said, "No, just come pick the one you want." She proceeded to lead me to a section of wash cloths and sink cleaning scrubby brushes? When I explained that no, I was looking for a microfiber cloth to clean the lenses of the glasses with, and that they used to be stocked at the register, she huffed again and said, "Well, they're not anymore, are they? Also, we're just about to close...?" I bought the glasses, walked out the door, and checked my watch. 5:59pm. But golly, those nine minutes I spent in their store, encroaching on what I assume was their rush to be done and escape their pesky customers, left a bad taste in my mouth that nine days later still hasn't left. Which is a bummer. As I said, I really liked that store. Problem is, the cutest merchandise in the world can't make up for poor customer service.

(In typical bead store fashion, the cost of all the parts she used only cost like $4--how do bead stores stay in business??). But she took her time and was completely patient, didn't seem like she wanted to be doing anything other than help me. And she did a great job. So good I tipped her $5. While waiting, I noticed a beautiful piece of agate on a counter and inquired about buying it. She thought about it long and hard, then said: "actually, we'd really wanted to make that into a pendant. And I won't make any money just selling you the stone--I earn my profit from the labor of turning it into a pendant." Man, I totally respected and appreciated her transparency and honesty. So I offered her more money and she sold it to me. Which I also appreciated. Oh, saw a negative review here about their customer service being rude--she told me they'd purchased the store from the previous in October, 2015. So it's possible the bad experience may have come during the prior regime and staff.

Thus it was, on a trip to Madison, that I cleverly took my jewelin' pal into Tropic Jewel for a quick supply run, while secretly planning to turn her into my own personal one-woman sweatshop. First I must tell you that Tropic Jewel is flippin' hot in summertime. It's on the second story of this weird strip mall, so you not only have to haul yourself up a flight of stairs, but once you get up there, there's no A/C waiting for you. Pause and catch your breath before heading in, because it gets stuffy in there when it's crowded. If you have any interest in jewelry-making at all, though, is this ever the place for you. Shelves and shelves of bead trays, sorted by color, contain every kind of bead you could imagine and then some. One whole table is devoted to pearls, natural and dyed. In addition to smaller beads, they have large semi-precious stone pendants and even some metal pendants. There's also a good selection of findings, tools, and kits. I especially liked the beginners' kits, which had everything you needed to make, say, a pair of chandelier earrings or a bracelet. Lots of times those beginners' kits are pretty lame, but these projects were actually cool things that you'd want to wear - or give as gifts. We picked out some nice coin pearls, glass beads, and other beads for me, and with my friend's help, I ended up getting three pairs of earrings for less than what one pair would have cost in a department store. But even if you're not a jewelry expert, the staff is helpful and will answer your questions, and I believe they even hold classes there to teach beginners how to use their new purchases. If you can take the heat (it's not called Tropic Jewel for nothing), this is a nice place to browse, plan projects, or pick up a piece of finished jewelry for yourself or someone else. It was almost enough to make me want to take up beading myself - like I need another time-sucking hobby in my life.
