The shop/space in Madison houses about 10 or so artisans who work tirelessly honing their skills. One One Thousand offers various classes to the public where these artisans teach others their craft. From quilting to wood carving there is a class that could interest just about anyone. These creative workshops are the center of what One One Thousand is all about. The concept of such self motivated craftsmanship is a rarity these days. In a world of big box stores ruling the world, or at least America, getting back to the roots of doing it yourself is a breathe of fresh air. The space is big and bright and there is so much to look at around every corner. All the goods are displayed and available for purchase in the space as well. The variety of merchandise One One Thousand has to offer is phenomenal and the quality of craftsmanship is second to none. Whenever we are in Madison it's a must to stop by and see what's going on there.

You walk in and it's downstairs in the basement of the whole building. So it's a pretty large space. The owner and her son operate the business, and she spent a couple of minutes chatting with me. There were few people seated enjoying tea or coffee with their chocolates and pastries made on site, as well as another with wine and chocolates. I couldn't wait to get home to tear into my box of chocolates! A few of my favorites included the Blueberry, Lemon, Lavendar, the Calamansi Caramel, Cherry Blossom, and Persian Saffron! I went into this very attractive shop that sells the jewelry of many local artists. I asked if any…read moreof the jewelry was nickel free, and she said ,"it's all nickel free! I only sell items that are nickel free. Do you honestly know of anyone who buys jewelry with nickel in it these days?" Well, yes I do. Nickel free is still the exception at larger stores and there's nowhere in her store that claims the jewelry is nickel free. I walked out quickly and will never be back.

In the basement floor of Memorial Union, there are 3 artist spaces that make up "wheelhouse studios" for people to use and make crafts. I've used the pottery studio and it is a great way to relax and make beautiful projects. You can buy and store clay, but then all the supplies and tools are FREE to use, including have projects fired in the kiln. Make sure you clean your spaces afterwards for the next artist, but go use Wheelhouse if you can!

Tried taking a photography class. Last week with bad weather (even clinics closed so shouldn't be…read moreon roads) wasn't able to get to class. Asked for the information so that I could catch up, 5 days later still waiting to hear anything. Found out today that I will be on jury duty for class two. Asked to be deferred to another class. Was told NO we are too far into the class. Really 1/3 of the class happened and really shouldn't have because of weather. So asked for the handout so I would get something for my money. Was told we don't have anything like that. Again, really nothing for me to make notes on during class. Nothing handed out. REALLY should be a refund. It doesn't sound like the class is very well organized.
