The owner and her staff were incredibly patient and helpful, walking us through the step by step process to ensure we felt confident with the projects we chose. I painted a large coffee mug for $28 (painting supplies, instruction, clear glaze, and firing included) and we were there for a couple hours, just chatting and painting. It was so fun and relaxing! (It actually cured my hangover.) You can also create your own clay pieces, have a painting party in their Party Room, take a class to learn to throw clay on the wheel (I think that's how you say it), or make glass art -and there are many beautiful examples to inspire you. As we drove home we chatted about how excited we are to see our fired pieces in a week as well as how much we look forward to doing it again!

I spent an hour in the area and then I called to ask how much more time is left (not to be impatient, but to see what things I could do while waiting) and I was told it would be another 45 minutes. I started doing something else, and 10 minutes later, I was told it was my turn... that was really unfortunate. When I got there, the staff was super nice and helpful! However, I noticed that I wasn't given all the info other customers were getting. They were told about things like the tools to make textures and what not, but I didn't hear about it until halfway through I was done glazing. I wish there better communication. A great spot though for a calming indoor activity.

This employee was holding an arts and crafts class, and very graciously helped us find a staff member who could get the pillows from high up. Everyone was very nice and it was very efficient. I really appreciate not having to wait very long because sometimes Michael stores feel understaffed, but that was not the case at all here.

The shop/space in Madison houses about 10 or so artisans who work tirelessly honing their skills. One One Thousand offers various classes to the public where these artisans teach others their craft. From quilting to wood carving there is a class that could interest just about anyone. These creative workshops are the center of what One One Thousand is all about. The concept of such self motivated craftsmanship is a rarity these days. In a world of big box stores ruling the world, or at least America, getting back to the roots of doing it yourself is a breathe of fresh air. The space is big and bright and there is so much to look at around every corner. All the goods are displayed and available for purchase in the space as well. The variety of merchandise One One Thousand has to offer is phenomenal and the quality of craftsmanship is second to none. In the basement floor of Memorial Union, there are 3 artist spaces that make up "wheelhouse studios" for people to use and make crafts. I've used the pottery studio and it is a great way to relax and make beautiful projects. You can buy and store clay, but then all the supplies and tools are FREE to use, including have projects fired in the kiln. Make sure you clean your spaces afterwards for the next artist, but go use Wheelhouse if you can!

Tried taking a photography class. Last week with bad weather (even clinics closed so shouldn't be…read moreon roads) wasn't able to get to class. Asked for the information so that I could catch up, 5 days later still waiting to hear anything. Found out today that I will be on jury duty for class two. Asked to be deferred to another class. Was told NO we are too far into the class. Really 1/3 of the class happened and really shouldn't have because of weather. So asked for the handout so I would get something for my money. Was told we don't have anything like that. Again, really nothing for me to make notes on during class. Nothing handed out. REALLY should be a refund. It doesn't sound like the class is very well organized.

They offer a variety of knitting classes and community offerings under this roof. It was bustling with warm energy during both of my visits. They sell baked goods form Madison Sourdough Company, a variety of coffee and tea drinks along with a few gift items like jams, coffee beans, and earrings. We ordered the protein oatmeal topped with walnuts and pumpkin seeds (twice since it was so good- and healthy) and the toast with rhubarb jam. On one of the visits they were willing to make cinnamon toast for my sister who was sick at the hotel with the flu. A family comfort food.
