She passed away at home. I'd been warned by several friends to not be present when it was time for mom to be taken away. Instead, I was made so very comfortable because of Caitlin Rude and her associate. They were of the utmost respect, gentle with mom, and all about dignity. Caitlin even graciously slipped into the bedroom to "tidy up." I knew then We were in good hands. The next morning, we had the difficult task of going to the mortuary and preparing for mom to have a memorial at Keaton's and subsequent transport to Lake Tahoe for burial. Caitlin graciously showed us the beautiful chapel, giving a beautiful history of it, explaining carefully what to expect. When it came to options, she worked with us so patiently, adjusting the various costs to meet our wishes. The transport started at 5:00am. She wanted to be sure to be in place in snowy Tahoe in plenty of time. Again, she was so very respectful and professional quickly accommodating us in every respect, I.e. a bottled water, a Kleenex, anything she could. This has been a dreadfully sad time, so I am forever grateful we had Caitlin and the staff Keaton's Mortuary handle everything. God Bless.

They were very compassionate & respectful when my father passed HOWEVER, paperwork was bundled (on their part) and it took 3 WEEKS before he was cremated. We were given dates that were not met and ultimately it took 3 weeks before he was cremated. We were told that this was standard...it's not. I love giving positive reviews however I also feel it necessary to let people know about our experience. I can't recommend Keaton's. I hope for their sake and the sake of families who use their services, that they get the back office (Admin, logistics) sorted out.

We are currently navigating the devastating loss of my close relative, who passed away while under the 'care' of her 'husband.' Despite the fact that the biological family--not the 'husband'--has fully funded the burial and the headstone, the administration is stubbornly siding with his demand to include his name on the monument. Without a head stone it has been very difficult for mourning family to even identify where she is buried. They have refused all attempts at compromise. The cemetery personnel have remained completely intransigent, ignoring the family's wishes and the specific circumstances of this tragedy. Rather than being a place of peace and healing, their rigid adherence to "standard protocol" over common sense and financial responsibility has added unnecessary trauma to an already heartbreaking situation. If you are looking for a facility that values the input of the grieving family members who are actually responsible for the arrangements, look elsewhere.

This time I had a bit of time to prepare as we had to make decision to end life support. I went down to make the preparations and the young woman was great. Frank was also there so I just told him how much I appreciated their service over the years. Again no pressure tactics to buy a certain kind of urn/casket etc. We were returning him to the Bay, so she helped me with the certification I needed from SFDPH which I needed to provide to the vessel we were taking out to the Bay. I thought I might have to pay a deposit and then when the body was received the rest. No, everything is paid once they received the body. When the time came, I called them. The hospital requested to see if they could pick up the body within 4 hours, but they do charge extra. So Kaiser has an offsite morgue they store and they went to pick him up the next day. Everything is spelled out price wise and extremely reasonable and they treat you with dignity and again I was very happy with their service. Please be aware it can take a couple to three week to receive the ashes, if you are going that route, because the hold up is usually at the County/States Agencies, ie Vital Records, but once that is done, it is smooth sailing.

My uncle passed away in San Francisco and our family is in Minneapolis. The kindness, compassion and willingness to help in any way possible made the whole process that much easier. Most of the arrangements were done by phone and email before we were able to fly out and pick up his cremains. When we arrived we were greeted with the same kindness, compassion and thoughtfulness as we had throughout the entire process. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for everyone here and allowing us the ability to say goodbye to a man who was loved so deeply.
