I just have to write... I can't thank Keaton's Mortuary enough for the incredible job they did for my family this past 2 weeks. You see, I lost my beloved mom on the 13th. She passed away at home. I'd been warned by several friends to not be present when it was time for mom to be taken away. Instead, I was made so very comfortable because of Caitlin Rude and her associate. They were of the utmost respect, gentle with mom, and all about dignity. Caitlin even graciously slipped into the bedroom to "tidy up." I knew then We were in good hands. The next morning, we had the difficult task of going to the mortuary and preparing for mom to have a memorial at Keaton's and subsequent transport to Lake Tahoe for burial. Caitlin graciously showed us the beautiful chapel, giving a beautiful history of it, explaining carefully what to expect. When it came to options, she worked with us so patiently, adjusting the various costs to meet our wishes. The transport started at 5:00am. She wanted to be sure to be in place in snowy Tahoe in plenty of time. Again, she was so very respectful and professional quickly accommodating us in every respect, I.e. a bottled water, a Kleenex, anything she could. This has been a dreadfully sad time, so I am forever grateful we had Caitlin and the staff Keaton's Mortuary handle everything. God Bless. read more

I'm sad to say that we did not have a great experience with Keaton's. After hearing it was the premium mortuary to use, we decided to go with them. They were very compassionate & respectful when my father passed HOWEVER, paperwork was bundled (on their part) and it took 3 WEEKS before he was cremated. We were given dates that were not met and ultimately it took 3 weeks before he was cremated. We were told that this was standard...it's not. I love giving positive reviews however I also feel it necessary to let people know about our experience. I can't recommend Keaton's. I hope for their sake and the sake of families who use their services, that they get the back office (Admin, logistics) sorted out. read more

Truly inspired by their completely mind-blowing insensitivity to leave a review. The first thing they did when we called was to tell us that the plans we had set five years earlier would not work and we had to use them for everything. They pretty much said and did everything wrong and seemed to go out of their way to be rude, uncompassionate, and try to take advantage of our situation to make money. It was remarkable how insensitive and rude they were. We ended up firing them and working with Brian at Montes in San Anselmo - and Montes was totally the opposite, very thoughtful, compassionate, tactful, and respectful - not even wanting to talk about taking payment until everything was taken care of. I too am very surprised by the reviews below for Keatons and can only assume it is becuase those reviews are ancient and out of date. The staff I have talked with at Keatons is absolutely wonderful and kind. David, Greg and Yuri have all gone out of their way to be helpful. And everyone is caring, and compassionate, plus, the atmosphere is comforting too. The little rooms make it a very easy place to gather and talk. Because there are a thousand things to deal with at a time of great loss, it's comforting to find a company with such good heart. read more

I extend my deepest gratitude for all that Keaton's Mortuary and Director Jordana did to honor my mother in all the arrangements leading up to and including her burial at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. The ceremony with honors was beautiful and something we will all remember forever. Jordana is an exceptional person and someone who is outstanding in her work, thinking and planning for every detail. It's evident that she truly cares about her service to others and honoring the deceased. Going through the passing of my mother was one of the most difficult things I have dealt with throughout my life. I can honestly say that I could not have navigated the process without Jordana, the team at Keaton's, and the leadership of Linda, too. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the help & support that I received working with Keaton's Mortuary this month - particularly Sarah Walton, a kind & extremely helpful young funeral director. I have been working hard to carry out our mother's final wish of taking her remains to Italy as her final resting place. This is a complicated & difficult process to maneuver and Sarah made it simple & straightforward for me. While most friends thought that I should just put the ashes in my suitcase, I refused to risk having our mom's remains taken away by the TSA! Sarah handled everything for me - from dealing with the mortuary in Arizona where our parents were cremated in 2014 (more documents needed to be obtained for travel) to preparing the ashes for our mom's final trip to Italy. And Sarah, along with other co-workers, Linda & Darby, did all of this with patience, ease, and compassion; they were helpful, sympathetic & sweet throughout. My sister and I cannot thank Keaton's Mortuary and Jordana enough for their amazing compassion. Our mother recently passed and my sister and I were completely emotionally depleted. Jordana took care of everything and most importantly always made sure she took care of our mother. In between the funeral and final resting place in San Francisco, there was a 2 hour time lapse. The first thing Jordana told us was that our mother would not be left alone at all. You don't realize it, but something like that is so very important because in your heart you still worry.I do not know how to explain it, but it just is... I had the pleasure of participating as a Celebrant last week for a service at Keatons in San Rafael. Yes, the home is a beautifully restored early 19th-century classic and is kept in immaculate condition. Get ready for the hard sell at this funeral home. Your best bet is to resist all sales pressure and order a casket from Costco. Yes, they will accept it (they have to). The Costco casket arrived the next day after it was ordered. The Keatons guys will try to max you out while you're grief stricken, so keep your head on straight, have them do only the stuff they have to, and save thousands of dollars by ordering from Costco. read more

Needless to say, this was one of the most difficult things I have had to do. My dad passed recently, and we called on Keatons to help us with everything that follows. From the first phone call, Marie Finkes gave us the comfort that comes with knowing that my dad was in the best of hands and would be cared for to the highest standard. Her experience with helping families and her skill with preparing loved ones is unmatched. Marie was patient, and knowledgeable as she guided my mother and I through every step of this emotional process. She understood us, and was so flexible in meeting our every need. The absolute worst experience of my life. The lack of professionalism, courtesy and respect this business provides is shocking. We worked with Caitlin and Brandy, I can't even get into all the details but mistakes were made on the death certificate delaying the process for an UNACCEPTABLE amount of time. Mistakes were hidden, even the death certificate was done incorrectly with the mistakes on permanent record!!! Delay in receiving remains, inability to hold memorial in standard amount of time. Brandy refusing to tell me where my father was insisting he was"resting with them". Find out he had been moved without even an email notification and had not been cremated in a timely manner due to their PAPERWORK errors. Devastating experience and anything I can do to save another family from this experience I will do. ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATING. read more

I can't thank Caitlin enough for making everything go so smooth during such a hard time for my family. Caitlin was very professional and transparent when it came to the details when planning the service. When we initially ordered a lot of flower arrangements and later downsized, we didn't feel any tension or bad vibes whatsoever. During the service, Caitlin was present and made us feel at ease with the service, and was available in case we needed anything. Brenda was our celebrant, and she was incredible. They went out of their way to help us make things just the way we wanted, without pushing any unnecessary services or products.
