I wish I could find the right words to thank the Neptune Society..... My grandparents purchased this for themselves in the 90's. My grandfather passed 13 years ago and my grandma a month ago... I had a bias of the Neptune Society based on the great experience with my grandfather. I am glad that bias wasn't wrong. Sophia, DeMarcus, Daniel, & Jordana handled my family and our final wishes with a respect and understanding beyond compare... Yes, I did receive a response from Neptune and I've been meaning to follow up. I changed my rating to 3 stars, although I still wish this hadn't happened as it did. The Regional Director Brian from Neptune did reach out personally to me and rectified the situation. They personally picked up my dad's ashes and drove him to the city. He then offered for both my sister and I to attend his scattering. I was pleased and touched to be able to do that, ecstatic is going a little too far. Overall, I know there are some weeds to be pulled out from this specific location at Neptune so just be aware of that. I don't like the fact that other people working at Neptune had to cover for someone so not in her element, but that shows that they do care. Contact Neptune Society of Northern California about basic cremation and received a call back from Frank. He said the basic package was a bit more than $3,000. When I asked specific questions about the details and he wasn't able to answer, he became combative. I asked him to email the contract but I never received it. I made a follow-up call and received no response. read more

The only positive thing I can say about the Neptune Society of Marin is that they did come and get my father's body when we asked them to. From there on things went downhill. It took them ten weeks to get the information to the county so we could have the death certificates. And it was nearly 11 weeks before they gave us his ashes. Our area did NOT have a huge influx of Covid deaths. This was a terrible experience in a very difficult time for my family. read more

When you need to use a business like the Neptune Society, you are going through hell. That's where I have been for the last month, having lost my 100 yo mother. I can say the body pickup was friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive as could be. Then I worked with Natalie at Neptune itself. She was warm, caring, honest, and again, efficient. It was all very professional, with a friendliness, throughout the entire process. Picking up my mother's ashes, using the stock urn, was again as good as this difficult experience could be. So there we are, not a piece of cake, but the Neptune group made it as friendly and kind an experience as is possible in this situation. I thank them for this. read more

My mother-in -law passed on August 2. Neptune came and picked up her body the same afternoon, with assurances that my wife would be informed of when she was to be cremated, when her ashes would be available, and when her death certificates would be delivered. Despite *numerous* phone calls to them pleading for information, my wife has been met with total silence. They have been completely, and shamefully, unresponsive. My wife is beginning to think that her mother's body has been misplaced, or lingers in some morgue 42 days later. Numerous financial matters need resolution, none of which are possible without a death certificate. This organization is completely incompetent. If we could give it ZERO STARS we would. Our next phone call is to our attorney. Stay away from these clowns. read more

For such a hard time in dealing with the passing of a parent and never have dealt with all that comes with it before. The process was new to me. The easiest part was dealing with Jordana. She took care of everything, and answered all my questions in a very quick manner. She has a very difficult job. I only write reviews when it's important to advise, or in this case - warn - others. We had the same horrible experience with Neptune Society (Marin Co) that everyone else has mentioned. Delays with ashes, death certificates, etc. And - NO communication. Calls made were not returned, etc. Had to call regional manager to even get a return call. Unfortunately we have had another death in the family and went to Valley Memorial Park and the process has been the EXACT OPPOSITE of Neptune. (Death certificates in a week compared to 6 weeks at Neptune.) We are so grateful to the wonderful staff at Valley Memorial. read more

My Mom died unexpectedly 6 weeks ago. As one might imagine, it was a devastating loss. At that time we had no problem reaching someone at Neptune Society (because they wanted our money, in my opinion). My sister and I met with the Director of the Novato office a couple of days later and finalized everything, including payment. We were told to expect my Moms ashes and urn in a "few weeks" and her death certificate in a couple of weeks. Now 6 weeks later, I've tried calling the office twice to find out where my Mother's remains are so that we can take them with us to her service out of town. No one will even return my call!!! I just received her death certificate TODAY- 6 weeks later. Upon looking closely at the death certificate, I noticed that the County Health Office, Dr. Willis, had signed and issued the document on 4/26/21- only two weeks after my Mother's passing, yet I didn't receive it for another 4 weeks. I just don't understand what is going on. The fact that I can't even get a call back at a time like this is very upsetting. I would NOT recommend using Neptune Society!!!!!!!! read more

I had the opportunity of going in and meeting with the people that work here. Melissa Thorpe is sensitive, intelligent, thoughtful, and professional. She supplied me with all the information I needed, and I was convinced of that at that time, to sign up with them and so did my girlfriend. My final and last desires were put into place "my way." This wonderful group of professionals. I can't recommend them High Enough. Now I don't have to worry that my daughter will have to take care of my final Arrangements. That everything will be done for me by the Neptune Society. I am the security and knowledge that no matter where I am in the world there will not be extra charges what a relief that is knowing that if I'm on vacation traveling on the East Coast or in Europe or whatever I'm doing that they will take care of me. read more

We really didn't know what to expect with the Neptune Society. My father-in-law had made his own preparations for his passing and the Neptune Society card was in his wallet. The office in Novato is down-to-earth, all business. A bit hard on the upsell which was a little off-putting. But from the moment we arrived at Pier 39, gate J for the trip in to the Bay, to scatter my father-in-law's ashes, it was, literally, smooth sailing. Extremely professional but with just the right amount of sympathy/empathy. Charles was our host and co-captain of the boat we used. He explained what would happen, how to perform certain tasks, and what to expect afterwards. The mood was somber as we sailed in to the Bay on a foggy bay. Another family was with us, scattering the ashes of their relative near the Golden Gate Bridge. We had opted for Angel Island as the perfect spot. As the boat slowed for our ceremony, Charles read a commitment, and my brother-in-law scattered the ashes in to the water. My other relatives dropped flowers and leis in to the water (my father-in-law spent many years enjoying life in Hawaii) - the proviso being that what we dropped in to the water had to be bio-degradable. The boat circled the ashes and flowers and, just at that moment, the sun appeared through the thick fog, and sparkled off the water's surface. The boat slowly drew away and we headed back to Pier 39. Neptune Society has this process well in hand, they are very professional and make everyone feel special and taken care of. Thoroughly recommended. read more

Do not use this company if you can help it ....still waiting for a manager to call me back .... from three weeks ago.. but I'm pretty sure that's not happening. my advice if you do have to use them... don't sign on the spot because they don't explain everything and then you won't get scammed like we did. The best part is "They" make errors on their paperwork and expect us to waste our time and gas driving over there to sign for their errors. Neptune has been sloppy and shady in my opinion so I can't recommend them. It's a sensitive time so maybe families aren't in the right state of mind to deal with paperwork.. so one would think Neptune Would hire people that pay attention to details like birthdates and names.. and occupations...just saying !!! FYI .. the lady I dealt with in this office face to face was lovely but as a whole .. the experience has been a nightmare !!! read more

My mother pre-paid her "pre-need" contract in the late 80s. She always assured us that everything would be taken care of, that we just needed to call them and they would pick up the body, conduct the cremation, and scatter the ashes in their garden. She wanted no ceremony nor announcement believing that survivors should be able to grieve in their own way without dealing with death rites. She was never contacted for changes or amendments to the contract, however at the time she passed, Neptune no longer owned the garden so immediately following the pick-up, we were transferred to 2 other entities for cremation and scattering. They had their own "contracts", upsell and Neptune had nothing further to do with us. Both required in-person visits, funds, and contract signing. She passed a month ago and still is not cremated. If you have selected Neptune for pre-need, check with them about your contract conditions. They still own the boat for scattering or you may pick up ashes. If you plan to have ashes picked-up, cremation pre-plan about $2500 today. If she had known the garden was sold, she would have changed her contract to scattering at sea. This is no time for the grieving to have to be shunted to 3rd and 4th parties with all their demands. read more

In the mid 1970s I purchased what was supposed to be a simple cremation for $150.00. I received a blue Neptune Society membership card stating the same. Fast forward 43 years and they tell me they lost the records. I don't have any plan and the 150 was just for a wallet card to carry around until I die. This is a ripoff of the highest degree. and I guess they will just pocket my money. read more

My neighbor designated me to take care of his affairs. He prepaid Neptune of Novato in 1994. There are basically two people working in the Novato location & they can only do the task they are assigned to. I tried calling the office several times & got voicemail. The person in charge of remains, urns, etc couldn't have been more vague about the process. The remains were to be sent out of state. I didn't find out until after I signed paperwork that I needed a permit. Neptune wanted $150 to ship the ashes. USPS was $70. After the cremation it took two weeks to receive the ashes & almost a month for a doctor to sign off in order to receive death certificates which had a mis spelling. My customer care experience was none as in ZIP. I wasn't buying a fancy urn & expensive fluff so I got minimal service with a soft gentle voice. The Neptune Society is a business making money from fancy, fluffy services & selling expensive urns & cremation packages. They want to buy you a lunch that will cost you a few thousand dollars. I recommend going to a local funeral home for timely service & unnecessary money spent on fluff. read more

The staff who came to the house to retrieve her body and the staff at the office were very helpful, professional and courteous.
