We decided to get our taxes done by a professional. My wifes friend recommended Gabriel Pina. We made an appointment with him and went down there today. I'm glad we did! Gabriel was super friendly and took care of us in a quick fashion. He asked us a few questions to see if we qualified for more write offs than what we were expecting (we did...hooray!). The whole process took about 30 minutes and we left there knowing that we would get a decent sized refund. I was surprised on how little it costs too. I was planning on spending $200-300 to get my taxes done and his rate is way less than that. It's not a whole lot more than if you paid Turbo Tax or Tax Act or whatever other programs are out there. I would rather pay a tad more to have a guy do it and get it right. Gabriel did an excellent job explaining everything including write offs, deductions, audit procedures etc etc. No question was left unanswered. This slowed the filing process that I paid an additional fee for down by a day or 2. I assumed when my credit card was charged in full for the service along with the rush fee and I confirmed all the information over the phone that 24 hours later my business would be licensed. It wasn't. This causes me to wonder if rush fees are just extra money for companies. Why can't all filings just be within a day or two verses making those who don't pay a fee have to wait extended periods of time to get licensed, especially if the filings are done electronically.... During our very terse conversation, Jared Olsen tried to insinuate I was lying about my assets because at first, the amounts I gave included both dollar and cents, and later towards the end, I gave only dollar amounts, which I am pretty sure is ok. Even the IRS allows rounding up or down to the nearest dollar. He was just nitpicking and finding fault because he had some kind of an issue. Jared said he wanted $2,500 to create a simple will for me. Also, when I later brought in a deed that I forgot to bring to the first consultation, he told me that it would cost me an extra $200. Then, his receptionist snidely demanded immediate payment of the $200 when I left, like she was so happy to be price-gouging me. Because my initial interactions with Jared, his receptionist, and paralegal created no goodwill or trust between us, I contacted Jared shortly thereafter to let them know I no longer wanted his services and to request a refund. He wanted to know why, what happened, and grossly over-exaggerated the value of his will. He was trying to gaslight my experience there, which he and his office perpetuated. He did refund me, at least, and destroyed my will. What a pack of wolves.
