I called in and scheduled some time with this local auto shop after having it recommended. The priority is to always support local. The service overall was great. They do have a phone but text seems to work better for them and that's a rather new experience. Quick with response via text. They were very thorough in response and curious, direct and interactive. I requested the maintenance as my maintenance light was on and also asked for them to do an overview of the vehicle to see what may need to be done. I was able to get this all done in a day. It's drop off in the morning and then I believe the goal is to service all vehicles dropped off and scheduled however seems possible that you could leave your car overnight if not gotten too. I did have to call and text to check in with work, they got to my car within the last hour before. The value for the maintenance seems very fair however this vehicle I have is a newer one and I want to compare prices for some of the work they recommended. So I did the minimal with them and would say that as a whole, the experience was great. read more

They made room in their schedule to squeeze us in. They fixed an issue that 5 other mechanics over the past 10 years have thrown wrenches at but never actual fixed the issue completely. And the price was totally reasonable. Other mechanics have suggested thousands in repairs to fix. Dan's did it with a few hours of elbow grease and a few small parts. This shop is the best. I have used them for just over one year for a Tundra and a Prius. They have been fair and sometimes say, you don't need that..........Recently they performed a diagnostic on our 2015 Prius for a possible hybrid battery issue and discovered an inverter issue and called to say that the issue was still covered by Toyota although hard to get Toyota to fix. They immediately said to take it to the dealer. They saved us thousands of dollars and we were able to navigate the computer codes with Toyota to have them replace the inverter. I've had two interactions with Dan's and both of them have really been so positive that they absolutely have my loyalty. Their prices easily outshine the dealership. They've got a partnership with Costco, and communicating with them is very easy; sorry if I'm behind on the times but I love that I can text message these people and they're very quick about getting those work estimates to you by email. These are the basics. What truly won me over was how they were able to help me over the holidays. I don't want to go into too many details because I don't want to set unreal expectations, but not only did they help me out in a pinch, they also advised me about a warranty on my car that I thought expired...so instead of just doing the work and putting me in the hole several hundred dollars, I was able to follow their advice and let the dealership do the rest. I left and took my car to another shop, with no appt although they were slammed they got me in evaluated the problem and i made an appt with them. Oh well there is always choices. First off, I usually don't write reviews. But when a place is as good as Dan's, I decided I had to. I had two issues involving door locks on my otherwise running great 20 yr old Toyota pickup. I was under the assumption that Dan's didn't do lock repairs or replacements so I called two auto locksmiths that advertised online. I shouldn't have bothered. They either didn't want the business or they didn't call back. So I called Dan''s, who had previously done excellent work on my truck for A/C and emissions issues, for a referral to a locksmith. To my great surprise and satisfaction they do auto lock work. When I described my more serious problem, Leslee told me that before i scheduled work with Dan's I should try something else, which usually fixed the problem and should cost under $20. I did, and it worked! Needless to say I was impressed by her knowledge of Toyotas and that this business didn't try to upsell me for a repair I didn't need. So as a thank-you I scheduled my second, other lock repair with them. They expertly performed the work for slightly under the estimate and I'm completely happy with the results. I urge anyone with a Toyota vehicle, newer or older, to give Dan's a call for any issue you have before scheduling with the dealer or any other vehicle repair businesses. This place gives excellent and trust-worthy service. The front end women are well-informed of both the abilities and timing of the mechanic's work. The pricing is fair, and certainly MUCH less than taking to a compulsively shister and just plain dishonest dealer like Precision Toyota. They know just what needs to be serviced and how much they need to charge in advance of the work being done. They are also located right at a bus stop and have a very comfortable waiting area with free custom made coffee and filtered hot & cold water. I loaned my 4Runner to a friend in Tucson trying to get on her feet. My friend, a mom who uses a car seat, called asking what to do with a brake issue she was having. I'm a mechanic by trade, but have Reserve Drill well away from Tucson, & wanted to put my friend's mind at ease. I called Dan's yesterday around 11:40 am at the recommendation of another shop in town that I respect. Late last night I listened to a polite voicemail from Leslie sent at 4:06pm, asking I call them back to schedule a service. Today I called back, gave my name & said I was returning their message. The lady on the line was outright snotty, short & rude with me. I again explained I'd called yesterday & was returning their message with the woman responding "well, you didn't explain that." Wrong - I explained that when I first got on the phone with her. As a mechanic, I love writing reviews about honest repair shops, but I refuse to deal with people with poor phone etiquette. As a friend who rebuilds antique cars said "if they treat you poorly on the phone, what are they going to do under the hood?" I work Communications with a local non-profit. If you don't have good customer service skills, then don't answer the phone. I'll take my hard earned dollars to another shop that respects their customers. read more

I'd already taken my car to another Prius mechanic in town and was less than satisfied with the service I received--they kept my car for over a week for a simple water pump fix and didn't keep me in the loop (I guess I was a low priority). Small, personable shop. Excellent and friendly customer service. Fair prices. I dropped by without an appointment because my headlights had gone out on my Prius. They were busy but fortunately were able to fit me it that morning. The waiting room was comfortable and neat, the bathroom was clean and they had a nice selection of Keurig coffees. While parking my recently purchased second hand Prius, the gear shift malfunctioned and it kept slipping into neutral. After googling this, I saw this had happened to other Prius owners - sometimes while driving at speed down the highway. So although this only occurred once for me, I wanted to get it fixed promptly. Dan's Toy Shop was aware of this issue in Prius's. They replaced my transaxle shift lever which fixed the problem. They completed the work within the time they'd estimated and the final price was lower than their original estimate. I have had nothing but amazing interactions with Dan and Angela having brought them my Toyota Camry, Lexus ES300, and now my Tacoma over the years. The owners, mechanics, and reception staff (who are very knowledgable about the work being done on your vehicle ) are all top-notch! I appreciate the no frills information and have had no issues that are mentioned in some of these other reviews. In my mind when the mechanic tells you they won't install parts that are not factory manufactured and recommended by them they are telling you how best to take care of your vehicle so that they can stand by the work and repairs being done. I needed to find a new shop in town do to a move from the northwest side. Dans toy shop was recommended by 2 friends. I called to schedule a service and asked if they had access to the Toyota maintenance schedule so the proper scheduled maintenance can be done. I was told yes. When I went to get the service I was told that they don't go off some "arbitrary list" and do a 62 point inspection. They then fix what they find. That's great, but Toyota has certain items that are replaced at specific intervals. These items may appear fine but still are recommended to be replaced. I told them that wasn't going to work for me if they can't make sure they follow Toyota's recommended maintenance. I am very disappointed. I was planning on being a longterm customer provided the actual maintenance was good. read more

My experience with Dan's Toy Shop was less than positive. In fact, I felt borderline insulted when I called to make an appointment today. I prefer to take my vehicles to shops that specialize in the make of vehicle that I own. Due to this fact, and the positive reviews on Yelp, I gave Dan's a call. The woman that answered the phone seemed nice enough at first. She asked if I had ever visited before and inquired as to the specific problem he vehicle was having. I explained that my car was misfiring when warm and that there were some recurring engine codes. She followed that up by asking if any work had already been completed. I answered that plugs, coils, wires, and regulator damper were replaced. She then asked if I had used factory parts for the replacements. I answered, yes. I then told her that I only purchase factory parts or genuine OEM components for my vehicles. He reponse was that Dan typically refuses to work on cars that have been "tampered with". My response was, "Tampered with?". She then proceeded to tell me that she meant "cars that have been worked on", instead. She said that they have had problems with customers that have had work done already. I don't understand why a mechanic would refuse to work on a car that has been worked on previously. Haven't all cars had some level of work done on them in the past? My car is a 1998 with 200k miles. I have been fortunate that my car has only needed routine maintenance up till this point. I explained a similar point to her about all cars having previous work. She then told me that she would ask Dan for his approval to work on my car. At this point, I was turned off. It just seems that a business would want to perform work in exchange for monetary compensation. I didn't feel wanted at Dan's. I will have to continue my search for a good Toyota shop that wants to make their potential customers feel wanted. read more

I used to think that all shops were crooks until I went here. I started going in 2004 (when it was Rey's Toy Shop), but they have been excellent to me. For years, we've had our 1998 Tacoma serviced by another shop, which seemed to have done a pretty good job. Recently, though, we were dissatisfied with a diagnosis they gave us, so we took the Tacoma to Dan's for a second opinion. Dan's gave us a much more sensible diagnosis, and found additional problems that the other shop had missed. (For example, the other shop had failed to reinstall four transmission-mount bolts after they had completed some transmission work.) I'm not a mechanic, but I have an engineering background and have some understanding of vehicles, and by crawling under the Tacoma I verified the problems that Dan's had identified. When the work was complete, I asked a lot of questions--as I always do. Most mechanics are annoyed and sometimes upset by my questions, but Dan's mechanic Brian was happy to explain his work. We crawled under the Tacoma together, and he pointed out with well-deserved pride what he had done. (Some of his work was not listed on the bill; we were not charged for it.) Leslee, who runs Dan's front desk and makes appointments, seems as knowledgeable about vehicles as some mechanics are. She and Brian were both a pleasure to work with. We look forward to seeing them again the next time our Tacoma needs work. read more

I came here after a bad experience with Primarily Japanese (they even recommended me to this shop because they didn't have the equipment to fix a 2010 prius). The staff is knowledgeable, communicative, and fairly priced. I came here for A/C repairs and they told me up front that my car would have to stay over night. The very next day I got a call from them and they told me what was wrong, what they did, and how much it will be. They even took the initiative to check the underside and reattach the clips for my bumper. Very statisfied and I now consider this my go to for car check ups and repairs. read more

To make a very long story short I just moved here from Phoenix and noticed my tires wearing along the insides and took it to a tire shop. I was told I needed ball joints and didn't trust them to do it so I took it to Dan's, who came out with a very different conclusion. Being very confused I took it to yet another place who came out with an even longer diagnosis. Leslee took her time to explain and disprove the other mechanics findings which was a great relief to me because she just as easily could have charged me for all the nonsense the others guys wanted to add. Terrible experience. Front desk receptionist is rude and told me I should take my car back to the mechanic that originally fixed it. I told her there was an electrical problem that was drawing power from the alternator. She said it would take a week to look at because I didn't have an appointment. I told her my car had just broken down and I wasn't sure I could drive it without breaking down so I didn't mind leaving it. That seemed to upset her. To make a long story short, I was charged $44 and told I had a bad alternator even though I had told her that when I came in. I also agreed to pay to have a full car diagnosis. When I came back to pick up my car (same day after being told it would take a week), I was told it wasn't done. I'm not sure if the front desk receptionist was having a bad day, but I won't be back. I guess I was just confused as to why she didn't want me to leave my car that broke down. I didn't have anywhere else to take it. Try another shop that appreciates your business. As a former school teacher and principal, I understand that employees have bad days and some need additional training. Hopefully, the owner will speak to her employee and teach her how to speak to a new customer. Her attitude was completely uncalled for and will hurt this business. read more

I have been using Dan's, since I purchased my Toyota Celica convertible in 2007. They have been very responsive, fair priced, and informative about what I need to keep this vehicle on the road. It's nearing 200,000 miles and still going. The people who work there are very nice, and it's a welcoming environment. I'm a soft-spoken, somewhat shy lady with a 13-year-old car that needs work done pretty frequently, so believe me when I say I know how exasperating an experience going to the mechanic's can be. Too often, male owners and employees will assume I know jack shit about cars and condescend to me, or, at worst, try to swindle me out of some extra cash. It sucks. So I was pleasantly surprised by the treatment I got at Dan's Toy Shop. To start with, both the person I spoke to on the phone and the person I saw in the office were women (or possibly the same woman?). Awesome. At no point was I condescended to. They just laid out straight the possible issues with my car, didn't try to pressure me into taking any particular actions, and then got on with fixing it. The service was fast, the prices were extremely fair, and I love their policy of starting with the cheapest and most likely solutions before moving on to the more expensive ones.
