This was a great little breakfast spot! The restaurant was busy and bustling when we arrived but we were promptly seated and served. This was your typical breakfast joint with nothing particularly outstanding on the menu. Waitress was real personable. I ordered a grilled pork loin with a house salad and fried okra. Prices seemed pretty reasonable. House Salad was pretty solid. It was a nice mix of greens with diced carrots. The Pork Loin had nice balance of lemon pepper and perhaps a little Montreal Steak seasoning. The fried okra was nicely seasoned. The selection of vegetables was pretty extensive. A place to consider if you want a good meat and three option near the interstate. Heading to Sparta, IL from Dallas, TX early this morning and decided to hold off on breakfast so that we could check out Dan's (which I found on Yelp) So glad we did! It reminded me of being back home at a local diners in SC: Friendly faces and great country cooking! My husband's pancakes (which quickly became mine) tasted like a moist, fluffy cake drizzled with warm maple syrup! Almost as fluffy and airy as the scrambled eggs I split with my son and I think the best sourdough toast I've e had. This beats a Waffle House or IHOP any day, hands down! Absolutely horrible service. Place wasn't pack but had several customers, everyone waiting on their orders. The waitress we had wouldn't stop trying to be entertaining and thinking she's funny, maybe if she drop the horrible acting we could have received our order in under 1 hour (wish I was joking about the length of time waiting for our order). One of the best home cooked food I had in a long time. The place is old but the food is very good. You can choose one entree two sides and bread for less than 9 dollars. It took some time for them to get the order ready but everything was hot and delicious. I would definitely go back again. Stopped to stay the night in Benton on the road back to New England and hopped over to this place after checking out of the hotel. Although it's familiar and seemingly easier to go to Franchise chains like IHOP or Denny's, I'm so glad I settled for a Mom-and-Pop-sister-brother spot. The waitresses were so friendly and attentive, (shoutout to Chrissy) they made you feel right at home and started my day off on such a great foot. The setting was nice and spaced out amid covid-circumstances and I appreciated the staff all wearing masks and being cognizant of people's comfort and safety. This place right here is one of the greatest breakfast joints around. I could write a 1000 word essay on their skillet potatoes themselves! There breakfast is just phenomenal! I highly recommend the breakfast burrito that's covered in warm white gravy or their sweet cream pancakes! Their waitress staff is always on top of the game and I've never been left with less than half a cup of hot fresh coffee. They get a bit busy on the weekend mornings but that's ok! I love to visit local restaurants when traveling. My husband and I gave Dan's a try recently on a Sunday. He had the chicken fried steak and I has the grilled pork loin. We both had side salads that was the basic bag salad. I had green beans for my other side and they were seasoned well. My husband said his mashed potatoes were good. We both enjoyed our meats. The pork loin was very tender and had a great seasoning. Came with a homemade roll or cornbread. Owner came by to say hello and all the staff were friendly.
