I purchased a Danny's donut at Harbor Market in Gainesville Oakwood. This donut had to be made 2 weeks ago. It was a typical round donut with a chocolate topping. It was so dried out that when I broke it in half with my hands it made fine bread crumbs for all over the place. The chocolate on top of it was also a problem because it was smeared and tasteless. Danny's Donuts is a small donut shop which offers a very similar product as the aforementioned Dunkin Donuts, but in a mom and pop style shop. The prices are definitely better, Donuts run 90 cents each with half dozen at $4.95 and a dozen at $8.95. These are not fancy, designer donuts, and the shop itself is not upscale, chic or even hip casual. They are simple donuts displayed in utilitarian style behind functional glass cases with the requisite warnings not to knock on the glass. While labeling the donuts may cut back on the glass thumping, most of the customers here seem to know what they are getting. The Apple fritter is popular, and while not the biggest or the best, at .90 it's a good donut. Cinnamon rolls at .90 is also something not to overlook. The rest of the donuts are typical yeast and cake donuts. Overall, you get a good donut at a great price. The coffee is ground fresh and is a pretty decent cup. Danny's Donuts doesn't really have a lot of competition from any other independent shops in Gainesville, so it's placed well here to compete with the bigger chains.
