Luckily when my friend and I dropped here on a Tuesday at 5, we were able to easily get a table for two. I decided to try the burger (ordered medium) and it did not disappoint! It was a juicy burger with the right amount of toppings and the bun was fresh & held up. The fries are shoestring or like matchsticks. Nice crunch without a coating! Pretty good. My friend got the pepperoni tavern pizza and a Caesar salad and liked both. Definitely has leftovers. The serving size for the salad is definitely meant for sharing (2-3 people easily) The room is very cozy. It does get loud even not being at full capacity. The service is extremely slow. Visited on an evening it was maybe around 7:00 or 8:00 p.m. was seated on the patio and waited very long for them to bring menus, and when we finally were able to flag down someone they didn't even realize that we didn't get many so we had to wait even longer for them to go get it give it to us review it and then come back to take our order. Service aside, and see Caesar salad is absolutely delicious I would have to say it's one of the best I've ever had. It comes with anchovies as well as chunks of bacon everything paired well no complaints no notes Looking at pictures of their pizzas and the pieces that came out around me they serve their pizzas burnt around the rim especially the red sauce pizzas I personally do not like my crust chard so decided to try the white sauce pizzas that looked a little less a chard I tried their mushroom pizza and it was quite delicious it's good quality cheese and mushrooms that they use but it was slightly bland I feel like they could have put some black pepper oregano something it just fell a little short. And again I did not eat any of the chard crust so just keep that in mind if you don't like that style of pizza it may not be for you read more

Pizza review: 14" "Tavern-style" pies are served here so ordered the "Cheese" ($25, grass-fed mozzarella, fior di latte) and was told they are automatically served "well-done." Price a bit on higher side for a 14." Was unfamiliar with "Tavern-style" but it seems to be very thin, with no bare dough on outer edges (toppings are fully covering the outer edges), and since it is a smaller pie, the outer edges are not over-cooked compared to the rest of the pizza. Dough noticeabley thin, but not like at all like a crispy cracker or pita. Minutely airy, but malleable/pliable . Great contrast between soft centre and crisp outer half. Toppings weren't "over-done" on the outer edges. The dough's thinness helped bring out the nuances of the cheese flavours atop the dough, but again, it was still minutely airy and not dense. Great aged cheese flavour with noticeable rich savoury taste, moreso in the inner-half. Tomato sauce not noticeable as it melded with cheese throughly, and was very faint, but slight smokey and sweet hints, that overall just barely balances out savouriness of cheese. Great char flavour, and it was greasy in a good way, to help not dry out the smallish thin pie quickly, even as it got colder. For $2 more, you could get the 16" NY "Cheese" pie from Pizzeria Libretto, or the 18" "NY Cheese" pie from North Of Brooklyn; or for $3 less, get the superb 16" "Margherita" pie from Pizzeria Fornace. So for value, DPT is not the ideal place. Great pie, with value not so great. Overall a must-try, if only to experience a superbly executed "Tavern-style" pizza in the Toronto area. read more

Danny's is trending. On a Thursday evening on College Street, many places were kinda empty as we passed by, but not Danny's. It was hopping. We walked in around 6:45 without reservations and got a high top. I love that they have a rotating Lambrusco selection -- if you're not hip to this sparkling red from Italy, give it a whirl. It's one of my new favourite styles of wine. Anyhoo...Caesar salad was excellent -- definitely above average. Loved the anchovies and quality of ingredients. Hawaiian pizza was a delicious combination of flavours, but you have to like gorgonzola (blue style cheese), otherwise you should pass. My only complaint is that the pizza got a little soggy in the centre. The server said his favourite pizzas here are off the "White" list, especially the mushroom pizza. It's definitely what I'll order next time -- with marinara dipping sauce. read more

Well tonight was a night I got to find a spot to eat without the worry of getting consensus, I done on my own after helping a senior friend of mine with decluttering - so I chose to try a place I knew nothing about - I didn't even look at reviews to see the menu, so I got a seat at the bar, (best place to sit in my opinion. I ordered the Caesar and a pepperoni pizza The portions are meant to share but that did not deter me The Caesar salad was authentically delicious, perfect amount of dressing, (unexpected but delicious anchovy) . My Pizza was huge- thin crusted and outstanding fresh flavour - the pizza is cut for a group to share and I managed a 1/4 of the pizza before I was full. My buddy suggested we go here, good reviews and can't say no to pizza. I consider myself someone who takes their pizza pretty seriously so expectations were high given the hype. Started with the mozzarella sticks and they tasted like what you get from a frozen box of PC branded ones. Pizza was mid at best. I found the pizza to be burnt. Don't bother with the side sauce, we got hot honey and garlic which were also lacklustre. Wish I could give a better review but service wasn't anything special either. We chose this place for a casual dinner in Toronto after a long time away. Since I had plans to visit another restaurant later, we kept it light and shared the Mushroom Pizza and Mozzarella Sticks. Honestly, I didn't expect the food to be this good! The Mozzarella Sticks were packed with perfectly firm yet soft, and flavorful mozzarella. The crispy coating complemented the cheese beautifully, and I wouldn't have minded eating all four myself as it was that good. Next came the Mushroom Pizza, which, to my surprise, was probably the best mushroom pizza I've had in this city by far. The flavor and texture of the mushrooms were spot-on, and the pizza dough had just the right thickness, balancing out the toppings without getting soggy, even as it sat for a while. The only downside was the service. The restaurant was quite busy, and while it's great to see so many people recognizing the quality of the food, it was clear that the staff were overwhelmed. It took nearly 30 minutes for the pizza to arrive, and calling over a server was a challenge. However, the pizza was so delicious, we finished it in under five minutes! Pretty mediocre. It's going for an old school pizzeria vibe but doesn't bring anything new, interesting or exceptional to it. The pizza is a flatbread-style crust (no rise or chew to the dough). We had the Hawaiian. It was forgettable. Didn't love that it had bolognese meat sauce on it. The pineapple tasted like it was from a can. Also had mozzarella sticks, garlic bread, caesar salad and fries. They were fine, but nothing remarkable, just basic and straightforward. I don't get they hype around this place. I wasn't familiar with Danny's Pizza Tavern when it was offered up as a suggestion on a recent Friday night, but all I needed to hear was the word pizza to know that I was in. We showed up around 6:00 and the place was bustling, so I was worried we wouldn't be able to get a seat. But we were offered a couple of spots at the bar, which was absolutely fine by me. I started out with a Margarita, because why not? And it was excellent. But we were there for the food, so we figured we'd order an appetizer: the Cheesy Garlic Bread ("garlic, parmesan"). It arrived a while later and boy oh boy was it incredible. It was cheesy and garlicky and just so, so flavorful. I was immediately impressed. For our main, we asked the bartender which pizza he thought was the best, and he suggested the Sausage and Peppers ("mozzarella, fior di latte, house sausage, banana peppers"), which we already had our eye on. And holy moly was he ever right. This was absolutely the best pizza I can remember eating. Everything about it works so well. The crust is perfect and the various toppings, including the zesty sausage and delicious banana peppers, work so well together. It's a fairly large pizza and when it was first delivered, I was sure we wouldn't finish it. But oh boy did we ever finish it. It's incredible. I loved the vibe in the place, too. They were both amazing, great tavern pizza did not require a dip and the mozzarella sticks were crispy in the out and the cheese was soft, I would give this place 5 stars for the food and the vibe and service. Went to Danny's Pizza Tavern on Saturday evening of the civic long weekend. Arrived around 4:30. They were quite busy but had couple of tables available. The tables are quite small outside and it is a small space inside. The decor inside is very chic. We ordered two appetizers, a beverage and the pepperoni pizza. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We got the garlic bread and cheese sticks with marinara. They were to die for. The pizza is a thin crust pizza loaded with pepperoni and surprisingly the pizza crust was still crispy and delicious. The size was perfect for two to share. I think this place is definitely now one of my favourite pizza restaurants in the city. Cannot wait to go back and try the other pizzas on the menu. And I think you should go and form your own opinion because this place seems like it has potential. Never ever write reviews, but this place was just not a good experience. We had a reservation and had to wait, which was totally understandable, but the host was kinda cold about it. When it came time to pay the bill they came by and were super nice to us which always feels like a bit of a downer. Always at least be consistently mean imo. The food was pretty decent, but they played the same song on repeat for almost an hour before anyone noticed which felt a bit like interrogation torture. The definite low light was a drunk dude sitting across from me at another table that launched a cup of gross smelling ranch all over my pants which the restaurant didn't really do anything about.
