It was the only place I knew of in the area that you could find high quality, traditional Italian style pizzas with crisp, flavorful, and airy crusts. Shortly after the name change, I think sometime last year, I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and it was pretty nasty. The chicken was cheap, processed, pressed meat, and the dressing was clearly cheap, bottled dressing. However, I thought maybe it was just growing pains, so finally, tonight we decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, this place is still just a cheap, crappy imitation riding on the coattails of the previous restaurant's good standing. We ordered two pizzas tonight, and one of them was astonishingly bad. The crust was chewy and tough, the whole thing was a sloppy, wet mess, and - I know this sounds crazy - it had way too much cheese. Like, a disturbing, grotesque amount of cheese. I noticed something was weird about it when I was handed the box from the delivery guy and it was the heaviest pizza I'd ever held in my life. There was such a massive amount of cheese that a huge amount of it had sloughed off and slid over to one half of the pizza, leaving nearly an inch-thick layer of greasy, wet cheese. The crust was, unsurprisingly, totally soaked and soggy. On top of that, the quality of ingredients was sub par, just like the time before - frozen, processed, pressed, chicken, canned mushrooms and jarred peppers. It's a shame, because this location used to be a hidden gem where you could get uniquely great pizza in the area, but clearly these guys are cutting corners and caring less about the food they're serving. Taking pride of place is the pasta kitchen, where the fresh pasta and sauces are made. Casetta is owned and run by a husband and wife team. The husband is from Italy and brings his passion for food with him. The available pastas, sauces and sausages are on display in two large refrigerators. Generally, I stop by for a sandwich and get some of the pasta and sauces for later in the week. There about 10 pastas and ravioli to chose from. Since Italians have very firm opinions on what sauces go with each pasta I always ask! For example I select a pasta or two.....then let them select the sauce to go with it. Give it a try.
