I can't remember what her name was unfortunately but she was the sweetest woman ever and took such good care of me. I'm a little embarrassed because I was so out of it with the anesthesia that I could barely move my jaw and I think I was arguing with her about getting up and leaving so I really hope she reads this because I am so sorry and you are genuinely the nicest nurse ever! Literally made for the job! And thank you for helping me get my necklace back when it fell off. I knew better than to wear it in but I was nervous and I'm so grateful to you for getting it back to me. The front desk lady was also so sweet to me. With dr Owens, I saw some negative reviews about him and got a little nervous to be honest but I kind of think he's just misunderstood. He's got a very dry sense of humor but he's a nice man and a very good surgeon (in my very minor surgical experience. If you're having something more serious done, I can't speak on that). He told me that even though I've only had a severe gallstone attack once (when I discovered I have stones) that I should get it removed anyway because it will happen again and it can be risky. Plus, I have insurance right now. He chatted with me a bit about my school as I'm an MRI student and came in wearing my scrubs. When I got to the surgery center, everyone that would be working on me came to talk to me before the surgery and let me ask questions. I also went from waiting room to operating room in about 45 minutes I believe. Very quick and I'm very grateful I wasn't left nervous for a long time. Also, they let me get a photo of my gallbladder when it was out. Not important but I was thrilled. I don't think I should post it here because I mean, it is still an organ. For anyone getting a laparoscopic cholecystectomy since there are no specific reviews on it: I was glued shut and my 4 incisions, healed up very well. I have my follow up in a couple days to check in but the pain was minimal and the cuts now look like gnarly cat scratches that are healing. The glue is hanging on for dear life though. They use CO2 gas to inflate your abdomen so they do warn you of gas pain that can't really be resolved by the pain killers and that's pretty unpleasant. My shoulder hurt for a few days post-op but a rotation of heating pads and ice packs helped a lot. My incisions didn't really hurt much. They itch a little now that they're healing and the top one over my stomach would hurt a bit here and there. Also, the anesthesia is rough! I woke up and could barely move. I thought I've experienced anesthesia but this was definitely the deeper sleep the anesthesiologist mentioned. Anyway, overall I was sore for a few days and I slept a lot but I felt almost perfect within a week.

So of course on a Friday evening I had a major attack. I called their office after hours and left a message. I prayed I would make it to the hospital as it was in San Diego, an hour drive. Within about 15 minutes Dr. Burgess called back as he was on call that weekend. He assured me that the hospital knew that I was on my way and that he would take care of everything. He even engaged Dr Schultzel that evening. Dr Burgess performed my surgery and did a fantastic job. He calmed my nerves before surgery with confidence and useful information on what to expect afterward. I recently had shoulder surgery and was concerned about the after surgery gas pain so many people talk about in the shoulder area. He reassured me that he tried to remove as much as he can during surgery. I had zero pain from the gas. It is NOT possible to find a better surgeon. Dr. Burgess is hands down, the best. Also he is humble and not arrogant like so many other surgeons can be. Thank you Dr Burgess for your care.

The reason being 8 years ago i took my husband to the ER ( needless to say he was in bad shape and needed emergency surgery) dr cross) was on call that night he came to the ER at 2 AM on my husbands 31 Birthday and took him straight to surgery. Dr cross operated on my husband for eight straight hours and was able to remove a softball size empyema from my husbands right lung he said it was the biggest that he'd ever seen and he even save my husband's lungs he did not have to take apart out which he thought he may have to. Needless to say when I got my consult with Dr cross for my little hernia I wasn't scared or nervous I knew that he knows what he's doing. Dr cross is one of the most amazing surgeons and he's very humble and my 20+ years working with Dr"s and especially surgeons dr cross takes the cake. By far the best surgeon I've ever known

I wanted to give my son time to completely recover from a full blown open heart surgery, back on Aug. 25th, 2022. It is now going on 4 months. He has slowly but surely come back from such a life-changing experience. Dr. Howe, it is with heartfelt respect and admiration, that I come on this social platform, to greet you, and your colleagues for the utmost professionalism and love you displayed for my family and I, during one of our most terrifying moments. How does one repay a human being, for saving his life?? There are no real words to define on YELP, what you mean to us. Our son is alive because of you. Born with a bicuspid heart valve, you and your team, went to work and did everything humanly ( beyond human ) possible to explain to us, and our son, what had to be done. 5/2/23 Dr. Howe, you are an amazing Surgeon. I hesitated to post this for fear of not being able to convey, to the general public, how special a man you are. Words cannot EVER define how thankful we are for you. Our son has returned to work, and is in the best health. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

1 out of 5 stars (for office staff -- 5 stars for Dr. Schultzel)…read more I had gallbladder surgery with Dr. Schultzel in September 2025. He was excellent -- kind, thorough, and professional. Unfortunately, my post-surgery experience has been made extremely stressful due to the office staff and management. When my EDD paperwork was first submitted, the staff only gave me two weeks off work, even though the doctor clearly stated I needed six weeks due to lifting restrictions. After multiple calls, I finally spoke with Julie, who was rude, argumentative, and dismissive. She even said sarcastically, "Fine, I'll give you six weeks off," which is completely unprofessional. I later spoke with Emily, the office manager, who apologized, but Julie's poor attitude continued. Despite Emily's assurance that she would personally handle any future issues, she never returned my follow-up calls. Since then, communication has been inconsistent. Some emails were answered, but usually with short, unhelpful replies, and many others went unanswered altogether. Each visit I've made to the office has been met with cold or dismissive attitudes. Even when my doctor extended my recovery another two weeks, Emily questioned it inappropriately in front of other staff. I've had to show up in person multiple times just to get updates, only to be brushed off again. The doctor and PAs are wonderful, but the back office is disorganized, unprofessional, and lacking empathy. I've felt ignored and unsupported -- especially regarding time-sensitive EDD paperwork that directly impacts my income. It's unfortunate because Dr. Schultzel deserves better representation from his staff. Patients shouldn't have to fight this hard for basic communication and follow-up care. Edit: I split the difference and gave 3 stars. I have no issue with Dr Schultzel. It's sad I had to place a review to actually have someone try to call me or respond to the issues at hand.
