I only wish I had asked their name because they were just so lovely. Very knowledgeable about the products and you could tell they were passionate about them too. The catchiness of beautiful chocolate art work on IG and me planning to come to NYC brought me to plan a stop here. The staff understood my requests of things that came in packaging besides the boxes they typically offer. I was thinking of getting 14 instead of 12 chocolates is why I asked but I am not sure if they understood that. If I thought of it, I would've offered my bag, driver's license, and credit card as collateral to hold on to. You can see by my profile pics that I probably couldn't hide if I wanted to. At the last minute, I decided to get a new friend a box of chocolates and then share a bigger box with a relative except I don't know when I will actually see him lolol. I also got an Ube cookie, yuzu cookie, they were out of macaroons, and I got a sweet latte w oat milk. All delicious! I also got a chance to learn that the chocolates take 3 days to make. It helps me appreciate the hard work and craftsmanship in this shop and how exquisite chocolate lovers must be happy to have this place recently reopen in NYC very fittingly in Chinatown, Manhattan's I believe (as opposed to Flushing.) The chocolates I had were all very flavorful. I could see how maybe it would be hard to make these chocolates flavorful enough like a former reviewer mentioned but since we're paying a premium-ish price for refined chocolates, that flavor factor is very important. With the ones I got, Daniel Corpuz did them well. I got a free "mistake" chocolate for buying so much. I encourage Daniel Corpuz Chocolatier to consider TooGoodToGo for your "mistakes" too . Then some of the locals might encourage you to keep making those "'mistakes ". The flavor on this one was not as strong as it should have been and hence the mistake for this one. My favorite chocolates in New York City are out in Chinatown in Manhattan. The Filipino and Asian inspired favors are unique and delicious. I wanted to try this place since it was opened. It is a small Filipino inspired chocolate store. I purchased 2 6 piece box of chocolates. The chocolates were beautiful and they have a range of flavors from Oolong tea to Ube. I had a hard time deciding which ones to buy. I tried them when I got home and they were yummy. While this spot offers over 30 flavors of chocolate bonbons, I tried and gifted their Chef's Favorites and Team Favorites Boxes of bonbons. Both have natural ingredients you can taste like kalamansi, ube, yuzu Saigon cinnamon, black sesame, guava, roasted corn, and vanilla hazelnut. I am a huge fan of the Asian forward flavors and my personal favorites were the Strawberry Matcha Tea, Pandan, Passion Fruit, Hojicha Tea, and the Ube. Cute little shop in Chinatown! It's clean and the workers were super nice. I love Filipino flavors for desserts especially Ube and kalamansi. The bon bons were decadent and rich but not too sweet. The Ube cookie I wish I had fresh but taking it home and just microwaving it was not the same experience. I've been a fan of Daniel's chocolates for years and would buy them from the holiday markets and when he had a stand in the old Chinatown Food Hall. I'm so excited he has his own shop now. It's charming. In addition to the chocolates Daniel now also offers coffee beverages and cookies. Everything is delicious and a work of art. The chocolates are so pretty that you won't want to eat them but they are so delicious that you'll be glad you did. My personal favorites are the banana, the sea salt caramel, and the cinnamon. If there is one thing you should leave with from the Canal Street Market food court, it is an Ube cookie and a bonbon set from this place. I was lucky to meet the chocolatier Daniel himself! He's so nice and professional. The Ube cookie is my all-time fave! It's such an amazing treat. The texture is amazing. I love cookies with a slight crisp exterior, and soft chewy interior. There are hardly any cookies that do this well and consistently every time. Warmed for you on the spot, you get these pockets of melty goodness in between bites. And of course, I love that everything is not too sweet! The gem-like bonbons are sooo pretty. Too pretty to eat! I gifted them to my sister and my family loves them so much that my brother got a box for his girlfriend for Valentine's Day. Makes for a perfect fool-proof gift. Everything down to the packaging and presentation is done with such care and intention. It truly felt like a luxurious experience. As a designer myself, I also couldn't help but notice the beautiful illustrations adorning the booth. Daniel even showed me pieces he was working on such as a sakura bonbon and an adorable pigeon one! There is nothing more "New York" than a pigeon bonbon, perfect for both tourists and locals. I was looking some unique bonbons and I would have never guess to go to Chinatown! I found this while exploring the food court and wanted to bring back treaties for my partner. Food: 4/5 I really enjoyed the bonbon selection. I got a few interesting flavors: Salted soy sauce - reminded me burnt soy sauce or tamari with salt Ube - nice and subtle for those new to the flavor Matcha - I wanted more of the earthiness from the tea but got white chocolate instead I also got the Chew-olate chip cookie which they served cold. I realized after the first bite it was more a of shortbread with chocolate than the traditional texture. It was not my favorite but my partner liked it. I am not a chocolate lover, but when I was waiting for my food, this place caught my eye. I am a ube lover and I love passionfruit, pandan, and calamansi and they had an array of filipino flavours. I didn't even realize he helped me until I am here Yelping and see the fact he is Filipino descent. Now it make sense why he had so many filipino inspired flavours. I ordered pandan, ube, and calamansi, but the cashier only heard two flavours out of the three. I know C really loves chocolate, so I shared it with her when I brought it back. It's good - I appreciate the fact it wasn't overly sweet or decadent and it really captures the essence of the filipino flavours. Sure, they're a little pricey but it's absolutely worth it! He will also sometimes have pop-up stores around NYC. For example, he had a stall during a couple of Filipino Fest Markets during the summer and a stall in the Union Square Holiday Market in NYC. I eat and review a lot of chocolate and much of it is in NYC. When I saw this place, I had to try it. I love new chocolate shops/chocolatiers. It took me a minute to realize that the Daniel Corpuz was one of the incredible contestants on School of Chocolate. One thing I always wondered about with that show is whether or not the creations emphasized flavor as much as looks. If this chocolatier is any indication, the emphasis was on looks. The chocolates here are beautiful, but the flavor combos need additional work. The balance is off. That's not to say that these aren't good. It is to say that if you're a chocolate (especially bon bon/truffle) aficionado, these won't quite cut it. Some fillings are too sharp without anything to cut it. Some flavors are barely there. That said, the counter is beautiful. The chocolates are beautiful and thoughtful. The service was great. I'll return in another 6 months to see if the flavors have changed at all. read more
