I never anticipated that a routine mammogram would lead to a diagnosis of breast cancer, and after a meeting with my surgeon I knew the only outcome for me was a bilateral mastectomy to be performed as quickly as possible. Although I opted for reconstruction, my primary concern was the elimination of the cancer. When I first met with Dr. Schmid in July, although there was some dialogue, as health restrictions left me literally on my own and everyone was masked, I was extremely apprehensive and contributed very little to the conversation. All went well with the initial surgery, and I saw the doctor over the next few weeks to fill the expanders and remove the drains. These inserts did not hinder my activities and there were no complications. Directions were clearly articulated as to my responsibility until the final surgery. The implant surgery 3 months later caused minimal discomfort and within a couple of weeks, it was evident that Dr. Schmid was indeed actively listening to me on my office visits. As someone who was previously not too reflective about my breasts, I am very pleased with my appearance courtesy of Dr. Schmid's mastery of his craft. His artistic talent and skill have allowed me to have an aesthetically pleasing outcome. Overall, no matter the office visit or phone call, I was cordially greeted by all and seen promptly (thank you, Maria, for taking care of me and answering all of my questions the day after surgery and Jessica for scheduling the implant procedure at the earliest possible date). They are a cohesive team that manages their time professionally, efficiently, and effectively. Dr. Schmid may appear quiet and soft-spoken, but he is fully present for his patients whether it be the Operating Room or an office visit. An year ago I was diagnosed with a breast cancer. From all doctors I heard the scary word Mastectomy. I was shocked, scared, I imagined my body after mastectomy and I thought that's it, my life is over. All researches, doctors, scientists say that mental health is very important, happy people recover from cancer. I was very down, I was depressed, cried a lot. But then before mastectomy I visited Dr. Schmid. Dr Schmid did a magic. He talked to me, he showed the images of breast reconstruction that have been done by him and it looked very good! He patiently explained every steps he'll do during the mastectomy. He was very detailed, very confident, I believed him immediately and changed my thoughts about my future. After mastectomy my breast looked good but I knew it will be better in a few months. Finally this day came and I had my final breast reconstruction. 3 weeks passed and I'm happy, I feel good, actually I'll go out on weekend and plan to wear a beautiful dress . I wish I could give Dr. Schmid and his office more than 5 stars. I recently had an extended tummy tuck, breast lift and mini implant done and I'm so happy with my results. I went on consultations with other plastic surgeons where I left more upset than confident in what my results could be. Also I never felt confident with them and their knowledge of my medical history. I decided to book a consultation with a surgeon through summit health so all my doctors and history was all in one place and easily accessible. I chose to book my appointment with Dr. Schmid based off his before and afters on their website. I left my consultation ready to book my surgery with him and Shreya. They completely understood my medical history, made me feel good about my weight loss and what having/nursing 3 babies had done could be fixed. My surgery was 2 months later, everyone in the office has been a pleasure to work with. The team of people the day of surgery were amazing and the aftercare has been wonderful. They have been available whenever I needed and excited about my results. I'm currently 6 weeks post op. My experience with Dr. Schimd and his staff was beyond amazing. I saw Dr. Schmid because I was going to have extensive bowel surgery and wanted to finally repair years of surgical damage. He was actually my second opinion and I chose him based on the referral from my primary surgeon as well as my interaction with him. Dr. Schmid was very descriptive and patient with the explanations for my surgeries and I felt very informed. No question was too much. His bedside manner is wonderful and comforting. There is nothing like having a strong connection to your surgeon (beyond the obvious need to have a fabulously skilled surgeon) to put your mind at ease. I was afraid to look at my wound closure based on terrible past experiences, but after multiple doctors and nurses telling me how good it looked - I finally removed the bandage myself and was literally floored with how flat and thin the closure was (its a very long vertical closure on my abdomen). I didn't think I would have a belly button but Dr. Schmid was not only able to save my belly button but make it much cuter! Post surgery the office support was great - anytime I had a question they got back to me immediately. Without question, I will be going back to Dr. Schimd for future procedures. Dr. Schmidt and his staff are amazing!!  His compassion and excellent professionalism was why I chose him as my plastic surgeon.  He also came highly recommended by my family members. Here is my wonderful experience: I knew I wanted to have my chest done, but wanted to make them as natural looking as possible.  I went for a consultation for breast augmentation a year after my 2nd child was born.  Finding out I was a candidate, I booked my surgery for the beginning of August.  He is very easy to talk to and explained everything to the fullest.  He recommended the new saline implants and was happy with my choice.  The procedure went fantastic and I healed very well.  I didn't need to use the pain medication, just Tylenol.  My incisions healed nicely and was fully healed in 6 weeks.  When I went for my final check up, he told me that he wanted to fix the shape more.  I thought that there was only 1 surgery, but didn't realize that after the swelling goes down the shape might need a touch up.  I went for the touch up and healed well again.  Just removing excess skin to make shape of the breast more round.  I healed great.  Seeing the before and after pictures clearly showed how great Dr. Schmid's work truly is.  I am so happy with the results.  I feel like a new woman. read more

After consulting with two other doctors, Dr. Schmid was the obvious choice for me. He had what the others did not-compassion and professionalism. I had waited many years to finally go through with this surgery. I actually met with him twice before scheduling the surgery. He confirmed for me that he was the right doctor for my breast reduction. He was highly recommended by my family doctor. He was very thorough when explaining the procedure and what would take place post op as well. His staff is also awesome. They are always readily available to answer any of my questions. Marie, the nurse in his practice is excellent. I called several times after surgery to make sure that all I was feeling post op was normal. She assured me all I was feeling was part of my healing process. Furthermore, I called the office on separate occasions on a weekend and I got a return phone call within 10 minutes, once by Dr. Schmid and once from the doctor on call. I was very impressed with this. They were willing to meet with me in the office over the weekend in case I felt I wanted to be seen. Let me mention that one of those weekends was a holiday weekend. In 2015 I tested positive for the BRCA 1 gene and elected to have a double mastectomy and reconstruction (expanders and implants). I met with 3 plastic surgeons and breast surgeons and the minute I met with Dr. Schmid and his team, it was clear that he was the surgeon for me. His team were the utmost of professionals from start to finish. From bedside manner to care and to the incredible work he did. As a 38 year old woman with 3 young children, I worried that having this type of surgery would leave me feeling like less of a woman/wife/mother. Dr. Schmid's amazing! He changed my life! I first saw Dr. Schmid about a breast reduction to address chronic neck pain I had been living with for years. During my consultation I learned that a tummy tuck could be performed at the same time as a breast reduction -- known as a mommy makeover -- and figured if I was going to have surgery and take the time to recover, I'd might as well d the breast surgery for neck relief, and indulge myself in the tummy tuck for confidence. My breast surgeon recommended Dr. Schmid for my reconstructive surgery due to a mastectomy. Dr Schmid worked with my breast surgeon during the mastectomy. He is kind, patient, caring and an excellent surgeon. I had complications after the initial surgery due to the fact that the breast had been radiated 17 years ago from my first battle with breast cancer. Radiated tissue does not heal well. The incision opened twice and then I developed an infection. The tissue stretcher had to be removed to clear the infection. I was ready to give up on the reconstruction. Dr Schmid convinced me it would work, so I tried again. I trusted him and I am glad I did. The second time, he made an incision under the breast where the tissue had not been radiated. Everything went fine. He also performed a breast reduction on my other breast at the time of the implant. I had no pain throughout. I would highly recommend Dr. Schmid. I could not have had a more caring, dedicated doctor for these procedures. read more

Dr. Schmid performed my reconstructive surgery after a double mastectomy due to breast cancer. He was recommended to me by my breast surgeon, and I immediately felt comfortable with him. In my first procedure, he put in temporary implants at the time of the mastectomy. I have had several follow up visits, all of which I felt that he sincerely cared about my condition, and was determined to make me look as "normal" as possible. My reconstruction was in October, and he did a fabulous job. I was so worried I wouldn't look the same, but he constantly assured me I would (I do). There are no visible scars, and my breasts look completely natural. He was compassionate, knowledgable, kind and very patient, and I always felt confident in his care. From the beginning, it was very easy to obtain an appointment with Dr. Schmid's office. Once I arrived, I was taken quickly. He went over the entire process of a reduction. I asked questions and he was able to answer them. I also inquired about other procedures to do while under. Once home, I thought of more questions. I have been a patient of Dr. Schmid for almost 2 years now. I had a scar on my belly from the Diep Flap procedure that I thought could not be corrected. I went to another doctor and he performed a scar revison and it did nothing! I almost gave up but decided to go back to Dr. Schmid and ask if he thought he could correct it. He was optimistic that he could correct the scar so we went for it. I was so pleased when I woke up from surgery and saw my "new belly", the scar was so much smaller and it will continue to get smaller as I heal. In 2012, I had a double mastectomy, with expanders, followed by a reconstruction that placed implants beneath my pectoral muscles. I was very unhappy with the results, and had two revisions over the next few years. I still looked awful. I was in constant pain and felt hopeless. I decided to see a different surgeon with the expectation that I would simply have my implants removed. I am very lucky to have found Dr. Schmid, who suggested a revision in which implants would be placed on top of my pectorals. I even asked him to removed the awful "origami" nipples that had been previously created. It has been 9 months since surgery and I am BEYOND HAPPY with the beautiful results and the way I feel. I'm even planning to get the 3-D tattoo nipples that I had always considered the final step, but had never gotten there. I feel complete. read more

The care I received from Dr. Schmid while I was hospitalized as well as the aftercare was above and beyond the best care I have ever received from any other physician. My OB/GYN recommended Dr Schmid and the moment I met him at my consultation appointment i knew he was the one to do my surgery. I had a Tummy Tuck, Muscle Repair and Liposuction of the flanks.
