After initially consulting with other surgeons, I researched and discovered the direct-to-implant surgery approach in which the cancerous breast is removed and reconstructed with an implant during the same surgery. I found Dr. Rafizadeh online and learned that he is a pioneering surgeon behind this specific surgery. He was also highly recommended by the Surgical Oncologist who did my Mastectomy (Dr. William Diehl). If you need a Mastectomy and want a new breast, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend having a Single Stage Mastectomy - Direct to Implant Reconstruction done by Dr. Farhad Rafizadeh and Surgical Oncologist Dr. William Diehl. (He and Dr. Diehl have worked together for years and are both such kind and thorough doctors). I relocated from Nashville to Jersey to be under their care and it is now two months after from my Mastectomy and I have zero pain, no lymphedema, no rehab needed, and a gorgeous breast that I feel great about. It was HUGE to be able to go through this process without losing touch with my femininity. Cancer had already spread to my nipple, so I was not able to do a nipple-sparing Mastectomy as I had hoped. Sutures were left in my eye even after her assistant had supposedly removed them. I was in significant pain and had to seek care from another oculoplastic surgeon for three months to manage the complications. When I voiced concerns, Dr. Braunstein was dismissive and unresponsive. I…read moreunderwent a cheek flap repair following Mohs surgery on my nose in May 2024, and the result was not what was discussed or expected. The procedure left my nose with a noticeable bump that significantly affected my appearance. Because of this outcome, I required a second surgery in August 2024 to address the issues caused by the first procedure which left my nose with a bump (though smaller) and it is uneven, discolored and unsightly with a noticeable cheek scar. I was not clearly advised in advance that I would be financially responsible for the second surgery, which has left me with substantial ongoing medical expenses. I am still dealing with both the financial and emotional impact. Communication throughout the process was poor. I felt rushed during appointments, my questions were not answered thoroughly, and I was never given clear information about what to expect from either surgery or the healing process. Follow-up support was minimal and calls for clarification during recovery were often unanswered or delayed. Based on the aesthetic outcome, lack of communication, and lack of transparency regarding costs, I cannot recommend this practice.
