TL;DR: Dandelion locked my family out of our garage for months. We have an infant and now I have to worry about putting her in a hot car all summer long. Customer service admitted this is their fault, but refused to fix the situation. Longer version: We just contracted with Dandelion. Besides massive delays to getting started, our current issue is that they delivered a dumpster, as well as a bunch of other equipment, without telling us that they would be delivering it or asking beforehand where to put it. We just got back from work one day and found a giant dumpster and drilling machines on our property. They were very inconveniently placed. They said it would only be there a few days, but then a few days turned into a few more days. Now, because of them, we'll have a dumpster blocking our garage for months. We asked them to move the dumpster or, since it was contracted with another company, to pay for the cost of having that company come back and move it, but they refused. I'm honestly not sure how the rest of the process will go, but I'm not optimistic and I'm massively disappointed in their customer service. I'll update this as we continue down our geothermal installation process. read more

Three months without heat in our home, and now it's broken again!! We hired Dandelion Energy to install a geothermal system in our home in 2023. Part of the installation included a mini split unit for my husband's home office in the basement, where he works 10+ hours a day. The unit broke in October and it took Dandelion three months to fix it - straight through the winter. Getting anyone on the phone during that time was nearly impossible, and when we did reach someone, they wouldn't connect us with a manager. We were told it was a warranty issue with the manufacturer and there was nothing they could do to speed it up. They finally replaced major components and got it working. It broke again less than two weeks later. This was actually our second major problem with Dandelion. When they sold us the system, they promised significant energy savings that never materialized. Our electric bills were far higher than what they quoted us. It took two years of fighting before they acknowledged the error and compensated us. I'm sure geothermal works well for some families. But our experience with Dandelion has been exhausting. If you're considering them, I'd strongly suggest getting everything in writing -- especially their energy savings estimates and their process for handling equipment failures. We wish we had. read more

Considering how much these systems cost their customer system is sorely lacking. They also made claims about their system (i.e. remote monitoring) which were simply not true. Perhaps because there is not a lot of competition in the area at the moment they feel they can deliver mediocre results. Their techs on the other hand have been quite knowledgable and easy to work with. I think they should be managing the business or at least management should be following their guidance. read more

We installed our system in the spring of 2022. First of all, if you think you'll save money with this system, you're mistaken--our energy bill has quadrupled since installation. Noise: The system is extremely loud; every time it turns on, it sounds like sitting on an airplane. Odor: There's a constant sewage-like smell whenever the system runs. We've cleaned the ducts, inspected everything, and no one has been able to find the cause. We specifically told them not to close the permit until the issue was resolved, but they closed it immediately after the inspection anyway. Frequent Breakdowns: At least once a year, one of the units fails--always at the worst possible time, whether during extreme heat or cold. Winter Failure: Last winter, during the coldest days of the year, one unit broke down. We later learned the system only functions properly within a limited temperature range. They couldn't send a technician for several days because many others had similar problems. In the meantime, we had to rely on space heaters just to keep the kids' bedrooms at 55°F. At this point, I honestly wish we could rip the entire system out and go back to the traditional heating system we had before--quiet, reliable, and completely free of odors or constant issues. read more

PSA for anyone considering Dandelion Energy for geothermal -- sharing our experience so other families can make an informed decision. We had a geothermal system installed in 2023. The mini split unit that heats my home office broke in October and took THREE MONTHS to fix -- through the entire winter. They replaced the motherboard and heat exchanger. Ten days later, it broke again. Now they're saying it could be months again for the next repair. This is on top of a separate issue where they significantly overstated the energy savings when they sold us the system -- after two years of back and forth, they admitted it and paid us a settlement. The technology sounds great but the service after installation has been a nightmare. If you're getting quotes from Dandelion, ask very specific questions about their warranty repair process and timelines, and get it in writing. Happy to answer questions via DM. read more

I had this system installed in 2023. It has broken down 6 times and the cost of service is very high. My electric bill is now at over 1k in the winter. You will not save money and the system breaks down frequently. It cost 50k and I wish I stuck with oil. read more

Over a year in and the system is running great other than a small electrical issue that occurred 13 months after install and after the 1 year workmanship warranty expired. The emergency tech got there on a cold saturday and was able to fix it within a few hours total but he was required to charge me a $400 fee. After a couple emails and a phone call the company decided to reimburse the fee even though it was technically out of warranty. This is a company that stands by their product and as a result my 5 star review remains. Feel free to email me with any questions or for my rebate code (would save us both money). We hired this company to install Geothermal heating in our home. It has been months and the job is still not done. As soon as we paid them our project was no longer a priority. They have done a terrible job scheduling subcontractors. Their customer service is non-existent. I have been talking to someone only to get ghosted and then find out they quit the company entirely - I'm guessing they are as good an employer as they are a contracting company. I would never recommend them or use them again, ever. I don't have photos, because they still haven't even finished the job. And now it's winter, I have no heat, and I have to rent another house so my family doesn't freeze. It's bad guys. Real bad. read more

These folks made a number of big mistakes during the planning and installation, but they came good in the end. The system works well. However: customer service is abysmal. Nearly three months and unreliable heat. Had to have 3am emergency service to fix one unit and still trying to figure out what's wrong with the other unit. Service people are nice enough, but no one seems knowledgeable about the issues, sometimes they show up without tools or ability to do anything but "look" at the problem. Broke our driveway, fence, and deck during install (and no compensation). 2x their estimate cost to remove our oil tank. Seems like they do not know what they're doing at all. read more

Within a year: Couple of part of the system went bad, they said it would be replaced under warranty, unless the problem was shown to be the result of poor workmanship. I'd be charge $3000 for the site visit. System had the ECM board replaced: the blower control board and it was a know defective part from the manufacturer. That I had to point out to them to come and fix. The Epic monitoring device needed to be replaced as well. They understand I have issue with the conditioning of my system : under warranty: Dandelion Energy cannot confirm a service visit unless a credit card is on file. Note: 3-year workmanship warranty and a 10-year limited-parts warranty in which is still active. read more

Overall, our experience with Dandelion was positive, and like any large, multi-phase project, there were some inconveniences that were resolved. Despite these issues, we would undertake the project again. We upgraded from an oil heating system (over 20 years old) to a geothermal system for heating and air conditioning. - Initial Consultation: In early November, Patrick interviewed us online to address our concerns. He analyzed the property using special software to determine if the project was feasible (considering dimensions and terrain) and provided us with an estimate for the entire project. - Feasibility Study: A few days later, a team of engineers visited the property to verify that the house met the requirements and proposed a system. We already had HVAC ducts in the house, although it was proposed to add more ducts to increase the volume of hot/cold air on the second floor. We felt that the team that came was very professional and used science to estimate the system. We had obtained quotes from other heating companies, but they did not seem as professional. - Drilling: Permits were submitted with the city around mid-November. By mid-December, the excavation was done. A team of two skilled workers carried out the vertical drilling to insert the pipes/loops that would later be connected to the house. One area for improvement throughout this process would be receiving notification a few weeks in advance that they were ready to come for the next phases. In general, we were notified only a couple of days in advance. It would be helpful to have a timeline diagram for the phases so that users know what to expect from subsequent steps. - Installation: At the end of March, we were informed that the loops would be connected to the basement of the house. Dandelion brought an excavator, and within a few hours, the loops were already installed in the basement. A week later, we were told that everything was ready to start the installation. Five vehicles arrived with various teams, and the system installation began. One team removed and disconnected the old equipment, another made duct connections for the new machine, another assembled the new equipment and installed the thermostat, and another filled the loops with the necessary fluid. By the end of the third day everything was installed. The week after installation, we had some issues, but as soon as we called to report them, we received a response and a technician was sent to resolve them. Almost a month after installation, the thermostat stopped working, but it was replaced, and it has been working well since. During the installation, we noticed a lack of communication between the teams (sales, design, engineering, installation, maintenance). It seems there is a need for a Project Manager to oversee all the aspects of the project, rather than the project being handed off between different teams. - Permit Closure: At the end of May, an electrical inspection took place that lasted no more than 10 minutes. Now, in early September, the final plumbing inspection was completed, and it was also very quick. It was originally planned for early July but was delayed due to availability issues with both us and the inspectors. Overall, all the employees from Dandelion who worked on the project were very friendly, with a good attitude and knowledge. It was evident that they were trying to do their job well. As mentioned at the beginning, despite communication issues, some changes, and problems that arose, we are satisfied. read more

I have never had a worse experience with a company. I had Dandelion install a geothermal system at my home. They botched the job then failed to take responsibility for their work. First, their bore holes ruined our formerly excellent well water. After I spent months working to demonstrate that their work caused the issue and to negotiate a resolution, they declined to cover any of the costs--zero--which added up to more than $15k. Nor would their insurer help, since the amount of damage was too low to activate their policy. Instead, they pointed to a small-print disclaimer on one of their emails to me, absolving them of legal obligation to correct the problem. Local attorneys said I had a possible case, but the amount would be too low to bother, so I ate it. Later, when small part of the system went bad within a year, they said it would be replaced under warranty, but that I'd be charged $300 for the site visit unless the problem was shown to be the result of poor workmanship. (I doubt it was, but $300 is considerably more than the part or installation would cost locally.) Dandelion's "support" person helpfully suggested I could have a local HVAC person do the fix and submit proof of a bad part for reimbursement. I jumped at the chance, but then she emailed back to clarify that, no, in fact she had given me some "slightly inaccurate information" and they wouldn't do that after all. Instead, I'd need to pay $100 for the part and likely $300 or more for the visit. No thanks! Geothermal is great. Heat pumps are amazing. I urge everyone to consider this option. Yes, we are saving money and are comfortable. But before choosing Dandelion, do your research. The system is poorly sized, loud, the force of the air is strong and is not saving me any money. I wanted to love them, they look flashy with their apps and design team, but don't know what they are doing. My system was installed in the spring of 2023. It was active in June and we are very happy with the results. Every employee I have talked to from Dandelion has been nothing but professional and informative and the communication was always very good. If I have any questions they are quick to respond. The system is very quiet and produces a lot of heat in the winter and cooling in the summer and we have noticed a difference in our energy bill. The company was up front with the fact that it is not a quick process and heavy equipment will be needed to drill and trench to the house so knowing this I was not surprised I had to do some landscaping once the work was completed. read more

Avoid at all cost! Generally happy with the system itself, despite having to call service twice during the first 4 months. First time the service tech "recharged" the system, two months later, I got a "fault" message. Had to call service again and this time they located the leak and fixed it (supposedly). Customer service throughout the entire process was the worst! More misteps and lack of communication than I can go into here. Changing price, delays (by months) at every step of the way, no dedicated and knowledgable project manager, new people constantly coming and going. I finally had to speak to a Vice President to get things sorted out. I really wanted to love these guys and advocate for them, but I regret not going with a local, more personalized install. read more

We're very pleased that we converted from oil to geothermal with Dandelion Energy. They made the process as seamless as possible. I reached out to a dandelion representative July 13 2021 and in July 14 2022 the geothermal installation was completed. Not bad considering all the planning and permits required for such a task. Our account manager was professional and courteous; he communicated the progress of the project and let us know what to expect. The drilling, excavation, and installation was done in a efficient and professional manner. I'm especially impressed with the contractors and electrician that worked with the geothermal installation in our house. They explained each step of the way and they were respectful of our home. They were great. We were able to have geothermal right before the heat wave in the summer. So far our house gets cool really quickly and stays cool during really hot days. With our old system it would take almost the whole day to cool down in really out weather. When it was 90 degrees our house went down to and maintained a cool 73degrees like it was nothing. It takes no time at all to get hot water from the tap. We felt that we were in great hands. I recommend going with Dandelion if you want to convert to geothermal. read more

Dandelion helped us switch to geothermal from the drilling all the way to installing a split system that is SO MUCH BETTER than what we had before with an oil furnace. The team that worked for us was so knowledgeable, respectful, and courteous. They were able to explain our system, answer all our questions before and during installation, and went out of their way to make sure that we were happy every step of the way. The entire company has been excellent at communicating, showing up on time and treating our home with care as though it was their own. I highly recommend them. The finished product is efficient, easy to use, and the Dandelion staff continue to be excellent resources whenever we have a question about using the new thermostat. We are thrilled with our investment and so happy we went with Dandelion. read more

Run far. Run fast. We are in Massachusetts, and signed a contract with Dandelion in January, 2022. We sent them a deposit which was required at the time. The sales process and site visit went fine. Once we hit permitting, progress was essentially halted. After speaking to my local building department, I was told Dandelion needed to submit a 1 1/2 page application form for well drilling. I relayed this to my account manager about 20 times. Month after month, he told me everything was submitted, my permit application was "under review", and provided the following explanations: 1. The building department and board of health are debating on what is required. 2. The diagrams Dandelion submitted were insufficient... 3. Towns need to be educated about geothermal systems, etc. Turns out none of this was true. After waiting 9 months, I called the Dandelion permit office directly and spoke to the coordinators. They apologized for the delay, and submitted the missing form within a few days of my call. Once my town received this, my permits were approved within a couple of days. Almost exactly one week later, I received an email from a Dandelion Vice President: "...As with many companies in this inflationary time, our materials and labor costs have gone up significantly since you contracted with us for a Dandelion system. Unfortunately, this means we cannot cost-effectively deliver your system at the contracted price and need to cancel your contract..." They did state that I could get "revised pricing", but that the new price would be at least 20% higher than what was on our signed contract. Essentially because they did nothing for months, they then wanted more money to compensate. I couldn't make this up if I tried. To me, this is at best unethical. Since the contract was now officially canceled, I insisted they return my deposit, which they did within a few days. I should have asked for an extra 20% on my deposit due to "inflationary times", but honestly, I just wanted to be done with them, permanently. I'm now working with a local installer with a great reputation. He said I'm not the only one this has happened to. Just wanted to give others a heads up of what happened before they sign with Dandelion. read more

I would have to give Dandelion Energy a 4.75 star rating. While I did have some small hiccups with respect to communication, I understood that there was a change in the staff member who was my direct contact. That happens, but that is what accounts for the .25 star deduction. The other 4.75 stars are attributed to the the things they did right. Their presentation was thorough and informative, the staff that came to the house were professional and informative, the product itself is amazing. Today I just got my final inspection. The inspector said, " If I'm not mistaken, Dandelion is one of the only companies who does geothermal exclusively. I've never had a problem with any of these inspections. Thats all they do and they do it right." I was so impressed to hear that so I had to share it with anyone looking to make the great decision to go Geo. read more

I'm happy with the system itself, but the customer service needs some real improvement. Be ready for it if you're going to use them.

Dandelion did a great job adding geothermal to our 200 year old house. They explained the technology enthusiastically and carefully. Their work was careful and when we had a condensate drip they fixed it the next day. The system itself is awesome. Cheap to operate, and quiet. The AC is incredibly powerful. The heat is, as expected, slower to ramp up but keeps the house very comfortable. Because we were using oil and had an old hvac system the economics also worked out really well. read more

BEWARE!!!! Listen, the majority of the people here are really nice. The second good point, the geothermal system works. Now all of the rest you should know. 1) The salespeople will lie to you. period. they are scumbags. I have talked to multiple other homeowners since having my system installed that have told me the same thing. Including one guy who was told for months he was on the "waitlist" when Dandelion was not even permitted with the county to build where he lived. It's really a joke. 2) Their work is spotty at best. To count the mistakes would take too long. Structural failure of the hole they cut in my basement wall had water coming in my basement. The guy who did the electrical in my attic was not licensed in NY and did the wiring wrong. I failed inspection. The repair crew kicked the J bend on the condensation line and water is coming through my ceiling. The drilling crew didn't know how to back off a trailer and drove through my yard digging 6" holes with their tires. Where they attached the conduit to my roof they did not replace and repair the damage, so I have had a hole in the side of my house for 8 months! The crew that did the HVAC didn't seal their system properly and sprayed sticking crap all over my office. It literally goes on and on. Every person you talk to will say sorry, its growing pains. I get that. But at some point, it is a 100% lack of leadership. The company hires an enormous percentage of their employees as contractors and flies them in from around the country. It is evident by their quality control that their training program is extremely lacking, and their supervision is non-existent. Just avoid these guys. There has to be better ones out there. read more

We had a great experience with Dandelion! From end to end, the team was very friendly, patient with all our questions, extremely responsive (e.g., over txt groups) and competent. The ordering process is straightforward, with various apps required to measure and scope house and premises. Based on the individual details, we received a tailored proposal spec'ed to our needs. The drilling process (one drill, 300ft) of course was a bit messy in late winter this year, but the crew cleaned the excess water as good as they could and left a roughly leveled 15 x 15 ft area in our yard that was actually quite easy to level and re-seed in spring (always allow a couple weeks for the loose soil to sink in!). They only use small equipment and vehicles that don't sink i that much. I also have to point out that Dandelion reduced the proposal $$ amount a couple time due to efficiency changes or more modern and cheaper parts, we much appreciated that. The unit installation was easy, except we needed a new 200amp circuit breaker for the solar-powered main panel from solar roof crew (always make sure that to be checked upfront- this delayed us by 3 weeks). The unit works perfectly, we have sealed ducts now and it cools the house down from 80 to 75 in less than 20min, roughly 5x faster than the old A/C unit. The cost is reduced by 70%. We're looking forward to the winter heating season when we can use our Eversource solar grid credit to power the heating system. We highly recommend to pair Geothermal and Solar, together even a 1930's New England Center Colonial can become a 'passive' zero emissions house, and we can do our part to the urgently needed CO2 reduction at the cost of roughly a new car, with 30% tax credits coming up in the 2023 filing. read more

Worst company ever. Poor product. Utterly unethical contract. Lots of damage to my property. Don't be snookered by their fancy marketing materials (like I was). Talk to anybody else in the geothermal field and you will find a consensus that these folks are shysters. Even the folks Dandelion partnered with to install their heat pump told me it was a poor product. I ended up hiring another firm to finish the job. Final cost: 3X Dandelion's estimate. Dandelion co-founder and president Kathy Hannun wrote this to me afterwards: "As a founder, understanding the experience you've had with Dandelion is incredibly disheartening because I see how we've failed you... I know this does not help to ameliorate your experience, but in this way you have been a significant contributor to making geothermal a viable option for hundreds of homeowners who have switched off of fossil fuel heating." I would recommend Dandelion Energy to anyone that looking to install geothermal in their home. They are able to complete the process from beginning (wells and trenching) to end (heat pump install). My home had the original furnace and air conditioner which were both about 22 years old. So replacing both with geothermal made a lot of sense. Beware of Dandelion Energy (especially in WNY)!! They lied and misrepresented themselves nonstop from the beginning. Then out of nowhere cancelled our contract citing geology issues and business changes. Absolutely the worst, least professional experience I've ever had with ANY company, and completely shameful given the price of what they're supposed to be selling/providing.
