That weekend, upon returning home to Houston, I noticed a friend had invited me to a circus show she was in at Discovery Green. I didn't really know what I was looking at at the time, but it was cool enough that I asked her how I could join. A year later, I'm totally hooked. I take classes at three different studios these days. I like each of them for different reasons, but Cirque La Vie is my favorite. For one thing, CLV is -- to my knowledge -- the only circus troupe in Houston which also offers classes (or, on the flip-side, the only place offering classes which is also a circus troupe). As a result, it feels the most like a family. CLV's also got the most range of skills. While other studios in Houston only deal with aerial arts, CLV has jugglers, acrobats, stilt-walkers, contortionists, flow artists, and so on. There's even an apparatus for practicing tightrope, and talk of getting a trampoline. The biggest downside to CLV is probably the current lack of options for higher-level aerialists to take classes -- most likely a consequence of the limited space with which they struggled until their recent move. At the time of this writing, CLV only has level-one classes for aerials; but its teachers do offer private lessons, and they're worth it.

I'm not sure who started putting shards of wood under our children when they play, but I'm over it. We came here on one of the handful of nice weather days weekend down here in Houston. I'm not sure how hot the playground would be during the summer, because a lot of the material here is metal, but I would definitely check it out again!

Love, love, love, love Eduardo and Dance Heights! My husband and I had the pleasure of taking private lessons for our first dance with Eduardo. He choreographed a beautiful dance to Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love With You"....and we did it all over the course of 3 weeks and 10 lessons (we could not have accomplished this without the skillful instruction of Eduardo). All of our wedding guests could not believe how awesome the dance was! We were able to incorporate lots of "wow factors" without going to crazy. Eduardo was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and helped us to make changes to the dance where something clearly wasn't clicking. By the end of it all we felt like family at Dance Heights! I have tried out a few of the studios in the area, and while there are a lot of great teachers in Houston, the teachers at Dance Heights are awesome. They create a great place to learn and grow comfortably in your dance life. The community that surrounds Dance Heights is non elitist, laid back, and just fun to be around. Couldnt recommend this place to someone wanting to get into the latin dances, or just looking for a home. read more

All I would get back is a vague text message. I drove all the way from league city because I really wanted my daughter to try salsa class. Thinking to my self well, I can just register her when we get there. I get there, and they tell me she needs a mask, but they wouldn't provide her with one .. if it's a requirement, then they should provide it . The guy at the front desk was rude and would even suggest where I could get a mask to purchase one. Nothing seems to me like they didn't want to work.

I found Uliana on Yelp and decided to try my hand, or foot so to speak, at individual instruction. She is very accommodating and we corresponded a few times until I could get my schedule lined up. We immediately started on some latin dances, cha cha and salsa, and have remained so over the last month of lessons. I have taken two a week. She is very patient with me as I learn to move my feet. I am sure it does not help that I have not gone out in public, but that is not her fault. I believe a couple more lessons may get me over that hump.
