Doesn't look like much when you drive past - okay, I'm using the canned Yelp message there - and,…read moreif you arrive at night, it's likely that you'll drive right past it. The Palladium is located on a one-way freeway frontage road, so you can't make a U-turn to get there if you pass it up. But it's not one to avoid. The Palladium is not a franchise of a nationwide company named after Arthur Murray or Fred Astaire. It's a local concern, and doesn't offer as much as the other two studios I listed. I've gone to their Latin events, and here's what it looks like: They have in-house instructors, and also bring in people from outside Houston. (I wrote about California's Kathy Reyes in two prior reviews, I hope she's reading this and makes the trip to Houston some time!) They have classes, and they have dance parties. Both are run well, charging market rates. Lots of parking. One medium-sized dance floor, two smaller studios. The bar sells drinks, both alky and non-alky. Restrooms are deep in the bowels of the building, down the hall to the left. The people who come are a good company, and are fixinta learn to dance better and to have fun. The social dance community of Houston is smaller than in other cities, so there's much overlap from one instructor to another, and it's likely that you'll meet someone there who you danced with somewhere else. I haven't met any snobs yet, but you can't assume that they won't be there. I first went to the Palladium for New Years Eve. I've been several times since then. The experience was similar to others I've been to in other cities. I've had a good time, and never drove home thinking "well, that was a waste of a hundred mile drive one-way." Beaumont simply has nothing like The Palladium, likely because few people in the Coonie Triangle are interested in ballroom or Latin dancing. I encourage you to find a class or party and stop on by.

I looked many dance studios in the Houston area and the surrounding areas trying to see where my daughter would be a good fit. I'm glad we chose Centerstage. My daughter has grown so much as a dancer in a very short time frame. I feel the instructors and director are super supportive of her journey. She has also been able to foster relationships with her new dance sisters seamlessly. The Centerstage family made us feel welcome from day one. I am confident after being with this studio for a year now that we made the right decision in choosing CSDG. Our experience has been nothing but positive and professional every step of the way!!

One of the girls made a very offensive racist post that went around to all the girls very fast. The DIRECTOR has push this situation to the side as if nothing ever happened which has left several people wondering if they should continue to support this studio. This is not the first time something like this has happened. Alot of parents feel like since majority of her students tend to be of hispanic ethics and the student that made the racist social media post is hispanic, that she tend to show favoritism. This is really sad and I hate it for the kids.

No complaints out of her My biggest problem is, that this is one single dance room, one single spot. Size of a small hall. So you are constantly moving avoiding hitting someone. Which is fine and all. Except no one is learning with you, everyone doing something different. Even though your lesson is private, it is only due to the fact that the teacher is teaching you. People sit and watch, or dance around you. Great challenge except if your a nervous bug like me. Also, since it is one room, there is one radio. People are constantly fighting over it and it fustruating. It is my largest complaint. The radio, the one room. Look I want to learn how to dance to this, we got the steps now lets dance to it You get maybe 10seconds in before someone comes and jumps on the radio and changes it to what ever they please. I really wish, this place was at least split into two. Something different. I would really like to continue but the price is a bit steep, 120 a lesson for two that is 40minutes. I loved my teacher, she was great, hated the setup, hated that its one room for everyone to see and move dance around you trying not to bump. Loath that it was one room with a horrible game of "that's mine!!" Song on, let it finish don't immediately come running to change it. Is fun, refreshing. I got my certificate from groupon, just be prepared Oh! Yes if you have a large living room, and you rather learn your basics off youtube. You can. But! Its going out, having an instructor tell you how to improve, specifically point out the flaws and correct them. To make you that much more comfortable with dancing. It's having someone answer your questions.

Not to start off a review by venting, but a little personal touch on why I'm so upset right now…read moremight go a long way in understanding why this is a one star review. I have personally been going through quite a bit lately that has led me to purposefully drag myself out of my apartment and channel my life frustrations into healthy activities and ventures. Between travel, trying to find a cat to adopt, and other every day oddities, I decided that I wanted to get back into an old hobby of mine: dancing. What could go wrong, right? I took ballet at a young age and was encouraged to stop, as I looked like a "flat piece of cardboard flapping in the breeze." When I got older, I dabbled in dance in high school, and went on to become a professional mascot for some years. Dancing isn't something that I find hard, and many routines, I am able to easily memorize, and have a lot of fun with. But, you know, I haven't learned an actual serious routine in human-form in nearly 7 years. Relevant. Today, I ventured to SoReal after being advised by Yelp that this would be a great place for "beginners" to come and "learn how to dance." Let me advise you: there was no learning HOW to dance, rather... after 10 minutes of the class, at least 10 eight-counts were shoved down my throat and I realized, I am being taught A dance. One must learn to dance before being taught an actual dance. So, you know, I took my cardboard-flapping body and left the studio mid-class. This wouldn't have happened if SoReal did a few items off the basic customer service checklist. First of all, when I arrived at 4:30 pm for a 5:00 pm class (early to ask questions, get info, etc.) the door was locked and a very bland young man answered the door. He let me in, and was not welcoming or cheerful or anything at all. I was obviously uneasy and frankly, a little shy, to be out doing something so bold after having spent the last few months hiding under a Calvin Klein comforter, downing margarita wine, while binge watching Grey's Anatomy. Despite my personal issues, kindness is a universal language that this man was obviously not fluent in. He did nothing to sell the studio or class to me, not phased whether I stayed or went. He did assure me that anyone attending this class would likely be their first class, and that you don't need any prior knowledge of dancing to attend. So, I went with it. There were about 10 people in my class, none of whom were very friendly. They stayed mostly to themselves during the warm up and stretching, which was fine by me. But the instructor was a very heavy-set young lady who seemed to be gasping for air after the set of stretches. Then, she played us a clip of the song we'd be learning the choreography to, and within seconds, she was shouting, "And then you do this! This! And this!" First of all, have you ever heard of an 8-count? Do you know how to break it down for us "beginners?" And when you picked on the little Asian guy in the class for adding his own style to a move, did you mean to insult him? I had all these questions streaming through my head as the instructor sped up the pace on a choreography that was FAR from beginner. We didn't practice with music through any of this. I finally gave up about 20 minutes in the class. I wasn't enjoying myself. It wasn't a beginner choreography (or even a good choreography at that). No one was at the front desk when I left, so I was unable to get a refund on my lousy $12. Basically, I left here feeling like I paid $12 to feel even more badly about myself. Thanks SoReal for keepin' it real.
