Took Jade's Mat Pilates class for the first time and it was great. The dance center is easy to find and fairly easy to park as it has a few assigned spaces right in front. The class was informative, upbeat with a great flow. Jade the instructor was welcoming, energetic, motivating, not to mention clearly experienced! The class was challenging but Jade gave pointers as well as hands-on adjustments and offered modifications for different levels of experience and fitness. I got to try the aerial silks class that focused on strengthening and it was very nice! It's clear that most of the students are regulars but they made me feel welcome. Got a good workout in and my arms and abs were sore after. This dance center is a bit too far from where I live to come here regularly but I would be curious about trying their other dance classes & maybe one day completing the beginner aerial silks series. read more

Went to a beginner's aerial silk drop in class through class pass. Sarah, the instructor, was awesome and kept class chill, informative, safe, and fun! This was the least pretentious or cliquey class I've been to through class pass. Only 6 participants all willing to help each other. We got to do some fun skills and it was a full hour including a warm up. Plenty of parking though not necessarily right out front. Give it a try! read more

Took a beginner/intermediate ballet class for the first time and it was so much fun! I came in a few minutes early and the very nice girl at the front desk gave me a quick tour of the building. When she showed me to the back, Alisa, my instructor was there to greet me with all smiles. I have taken a few ballet classes as a kid. Now that I'm stiff and old it was somewhat difficult to follow some of the exercises but no worries Alisa will help you get through them! She was so patient and encouraging throughout the whole 90 mins of class. This particular class only had adults, men and women. Even if you have never taken ballet and just want to try it out, this is a good place to start. They also offer jazz, aerial silks, barre, pilates, and more. I absolutely love this place! Dare I call it... my second home A week ago, I celebrated my 1 year "Hunter-versary." A year ago, I happened upon Hunter on the MINDBODY app. They have an introductory 30 days unlimited drop-in deal for $30. Included in that deal are a variety of dance classes (ballet, hip hop, modern, tap, etc), but also aerial conditioning classes. While I had never touched an aerial silk prior to walking into Hunter, I was curious & figured it would be a fun workout to try out for a month. Little did I know that one month would turn into a year and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon! Between the series classes, conditioning classes, and open studio, I'm here 3-5 days a week. It's not just the hobby that I've become obsessed with, but the people too. I love the community at Hunter & a big part of that are the instructors. I cannot say enough good things! read more

I am so happy we found Hunter Dance Center! A friend and I have been taking some aerial silks classes for the past few weeks and as a total beginner, I have never once felt uncomfortable or belittled for not being at the same level as other people in the class. Adaptable and affirming faculty and staff provide a nurturing and enjoyable experience for all students, including my son, who has autism and severe ADHD. When he couldn't sustain the self-discipline and group attention required for the regular classes, the owner worked with me directly to transfer his tuition into private lessons, and he has kept coming ever since. He has worked with wonderful teachers here, and his current teacher especially has extensive knowledge as well as great talent for working with challenging students. When he wanted to put on a show, other staff members and even other students' moms attended. It is a loving and generous community. This place is really cool! I tried the Aerial Conditioning on Class Pass and was pleasantly surprised! It looks a bit like a dance school when you first walk in, because it is, but nonetheless everyone was really cordial and friendly. I had never tried silks before this class but I had soo much fun. We did a really effective warm-up before getting on them which brought me back to my dancing days, and then we got to flip upside down and do all these tricks on the Aerial Silks. It's reeaallyy hard, I might even say harder than pole, but it's super fun to learn how to wrap yourself in them and do acrobatic tricks. And I only took 1 class! The instructor was really good, the dancing really fun and I would definitely recommend trying this place out. It's in the Heights. read more

We love Hunter! My oldest daughter is a fairly serious ballet dancer and I have been pleased with the attention to detail and safety in her classes. My son is taking hip hop and has a blast. They were working on learning head stands last week. My younger daughter is in a creative movement class and is always excited to go dance with Ms. Annie. I took a couple of the adult classes and loved them. No matter where you are on the dance spectrum from newbie to experienced, preschooler to adult, Hunter is a fantastic dance home. We are so happy to have Hunter join the Houston Arts community. read more

Hunter is the best! We celebrated my daughter's 4th birthday party at Hunter and it was a truly joyous experience for all. Lauren, one of the wonderful dance instructors, helped the children make their own tulle tutus, then led them into the studio for a dance class geared specifically for their age group (no prior experience necessary!). It was silly, beautiful fun. The children were so engaged and involved, and the parents had a great time watching. The dance class was so great that many of the guests inquired about signing up for regular lessons (we may do this as well.) There is a party room, which you can decorate, and the studio has several party themes from which you can choose, if you like. The staff is wonderful -- they make it easy and fun. Having no dance experience, I worried I would simply make a fool of myself. However, the instructors at Hunter are some of the most encouraging people I have ever met in my entire life! I can not say enough positive things about Hunter Dance Center. My daughter is in ballet and modern dance and she has improved tremendously in just half a year. Ms. Annie and Ms. Brittany have been incredible teachers for her to work with and they make the classes fun but still very focused on learning correct technique. I have also started taking mat Pilates classes at Hunter from Stacy and Brittany and the classes are fantastic. I have increased my strength in a very encouraging and accepting environment. I'm so excited about all of the other offerings for adults as well, I could probably be at Hunter every night if I had the time. read more
