Aside from weight, my physical strength has increased. Seeing muscles grow and feeling better. Jayson is patient, understanding and positive. Being in a gym like that with other athletes who are "fitter" can be intimidating, but Jayson doesn't make me feel any less and not only does he push me, but he also encourages me. Other trainers seem to be highly motivating and seeing other members getting their sweat on and having fun, is also encouraging.

But in All actuality it's a money grab. Mike (the owner) is cool but after I spoke to him & Emily, I left the SAME day called back & said "Never mind, I don't feel comfortable with paying $150/mo and I need my money back on my credit card". REMEMBER it was the same day &They basically gave me the run around even after I returned their key fob. David (who claimed to be a co-owner) stated I would get a refund but the day I returned the key fob they said David is NOT a co-owner as he stated to me on the phone AND he no longer works there. When I asked why he no longer work there Emily stated verbatim "because of reasons like this, giving customers misinformation" WOW! I have recordings & receipts. I HATE I GAVE THESE PEOPLE MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

The instructors are all awesome and they really push you. I also like that they aren't so pushy with buying more classes or gimmicky monitors. I've been trying to switch it up with my workout routine to have more diversity with the exercises…read more I usually go to spin classes so I appreciate the cardio aspect of this but love that there is more weights involved. I recently tried Barry's and loved it so I figured I'd try this one as it's closer. Upon arrival, the woman at the front desk got me checked in and told me I could wait until the earlier class finished so she could give me an overview. They do have lockers in the bathroom for your stuff; however, most people just left their stuff in the open cubbies at the front. One the earlier class let out, us first timers were brought into the room and shown how to work the treadmill since it wasn't a generic one. For this class, the room has blue lighting and the instructor is on an elevated platform (or should I say DJ booth). The stage is where the exercises are demonstrated and you can always look for the instructor. While Barry's usually does a clean split between time on the treadmill and then the floor... SWEAT has 5-7 minute intervals and rotations. I didn't love this as I was sharing a space with someone else so when I got to the floor... there was sweat from the other person over the bench and it was a bit gross. Additionally, I think more time gets wasted doing the transitions. The workout itself was great and the instructor was nice. When on the treadmill, I appreciate that they give a walk, jog and run option although with the speeds they mention... no way are you still walking unless you're doing your own thing. On the floor side, I do wish they offered more options or guidance to those who have injuries and can't do some movements. I understand it's a large class so it's not feasible but it's something to note. All in all, it was a good workout and I'd visit again BUT would still pick Barry's over this one.

Compared to all of the big chain gyms, and the new YMCA downtown, this might seem pretty dated. But if you are into working out for the actual love of fitness, then of course this Y gets the job done. There is an indoor gymnasium/basketball court and a decent outdoor pool for the summer months. The basement is where the traditional gym is, including tread mills, stair masters, and basic free weights/weight machines. It's really nice to come during school/work hours because there is no one there. You can get your entire cardio/circuit training done in an hour. The bad thing is that directly after work hours, when most people actually have time to go to the gym, it's a bit crowded, as there are only six tread mills and one weight machine for each muscle group. There is an old sauna in the men's locker room that has been locked for as long as I can remember. If only they would repair it, I wouldn't be considering renewing my membership to 24-Hour Fitness.

The yoga instructor was charismatic, welcoming, and made the class enjoyable for first-timers. The only downside was how crowded the class was. I enjoy going to Black Swan--not only for the affordability but also because they often run monthly specials, which I always take advantage of. I try to get there 10 minutes before for space and a spot in the yoga room. The White Oak location has a small room that can fit about 60+ people. It can get a bit cramped, and you're definitely up close and personal with your neighbor, but honestly, it doesn't bother me anymore. I enjoy the classes and the community! I especially love taking classes from Jose--he's hilarious and makes every session such a blast. His classes are not only fun but also an incredible workout! Definitely check them out!
