I've been going hard in training to pass the Air Force ASOS / TACP physical requirements and this recovery method has made a huge difference for me. I'm PR'ing everything at the gym. I also track my light and deep sleep, and the stats from my deep sleep went from about 2.5 hours per night to about 6.5 after partaking in Fire & Ice. How does it work? You spend 3 min in the ice bath followed by approximately 15 min in the sauna. Repeat 3x and do one final ice bath dunk at the end. If you're killing it and feeling run down, check them out and ask for Justin. He'll take great care of you. It's made a HUGE difference for me!

They didn't try to up charge it as personal training. All in all I really love this gym I only stopped membership when I moved and it was no longer convenient. But usually it comes down to: "Oh hell, let's turn right today." Why? One phrase: the steam room. That steam room seals the deal for me almost every time. The overall vibe here is great. The facility is consistently clean, and the staff is awesome across the board--especially the lifeguards, who are always super cool and attentive. The only real critique is that they could definitely stand to upgrade the basketballs to match the nicer ones they've got over at Clay Road. But between the cleanliness, the great crew running the place, and that steam room waiting at the end of a workout, this spot easily earns a solid 4 stars all day long.

One of the biggest…read morehighlights is the outdoor pool, which is heated during the winter and stays open year-round unless temperatures drop below freezing. The pool also has a 9-foot deep end and a few lap lanes. One downside is there's very little shade around the pool area. Inside, there are free weights and cardio areas, basketball courts, TRX setup, and several group fitness rooms offering classes like yoga, pilates, Zumba, pickleball, and other fitness programs. The instructors and staff have always been very friendly and welcoming. The men's and women's locker rooms also include a steam sauna and hot tub, which are nice amenities. However, the steam saunas are frequently closed or broken for maintenance, so I'd recommend calling ahead to confirm what's currently working before visiting. Another downside is that the lockers require you to bring your own lock--they do not have built-in combination locks like many newer gyms. They offer memberships for different age groups, and another huge plus is the free covered parking garage. However, during weekday evenings (around 6 p.m.), the garage can get pretty full due to after-work crowds and youth programs. I've been a YMCA member for several years and would definitely recommend this location.

Fast forward to today, and while gym memberships across the board aren't cheap anymore, this specific location simply hasn't kept up with the times--or with other branches nearby. If you've been to the Clay location, the difference is night and day. Over there, the weight room is bigger, the amenities are better, the pool is fantastic, and the staff treats you like a paying member. Here on 34th: The facilities fall short: Other locations have solid steam rooms, saunas, quality pools, and great equipment. Here, the pool is mediocre at best, and the workout floor is cramped and desperately needs an expansion and more machines. The vibe from staff is hit-or-miss: Most of the staff are fine, but a couple of folks act like they're doing you a massive personal favor just handing you a basketball to shoot around on the court. Nobody should feel like asking for standard gym equipment is going to get a whole report written on them. The only real selling point for me is convenience--it's a five-minute drive from my front door. But if you've got an extra ten to fifteen minutes to spare, do yourself a favor and hit one of the other branches. You'll get better equipment, better amenities, and way less attitude.

I was a Y member for 10 years and this was probably my 2nd fave Houston area location after downtown. It did get busy during rush hour, but what doesn't. However, their prices shot up during COVID, they started limiting workouts and that lasted for ages, and became extremely shady with their finances. They still owe us $500 for all the money they charged us after we canceled, but the joke is on them, because I tell everyone their shady practices and they've probably lost a lot more than 500 in dues from me and a lot more than 50,000 in dues from the people I've told the honest truth to. The gym is clean and works well, though.

Fast forward 6+ months and I honestly think that I'm in the best shape of my life...or at least since high school. I recently turned 40 and because of my workouts at Urban Jungle I have no mobility issues; the creakyness I was starting to get is gone! I can easily play on the floor with my kids and sprint after them. On my 40th birthday I was also able to do 40 pushups, I huge accomplishment for me, and 100% attributable to the urban jungle workouts.
