The owner, Roxanne Claire, is extremely involved in day-to-day operations and teaches a number of the classes. My daughter loves learning ballet and other dance styles from Ms. Claire. As much as I wanted to like this school because of the initial tour (which is gonna be the only…read moretimes that you might ever see a director or the owners) and the proximity to us, the experience for us was disappointing on many levels. We left three years ago after several months of enrollment, yet I STILL have negative feelings about our time there and unfortunately, I continue to hear from others about some of the same issues. I was initially very enthusiastic about Mariner and even recommended it to two friends, both of whom stayed And were quite happy. In my case unfortunately, things did not work out and turned unpleasant quickly. In my son's class, one wonderful teacher left, followed shortly by the other. Within a short period of time, the class went from a teacher-to-child ratio of approximately 1:8 to 1:22 children. The replacement teachers who showed up over night were very young, no native English speakers and without credentials or experience I would expect from teachers responsible for so many young children. More concerning to me were the safety issues. On two occasions, my son came home with unexplained bruises. The second incident ultimately led me to withdraw. I received him back with a huge bruise, and no one at the school could explain how it happened! Two days later was then told that he 'had a habit of rubbing his head against the carpet'--something he had never seen before and I have never seen since. During my meeting with the director, it became obvious that someone was not watching my son and he got injured, but they were not clear about how it happened. Do not send your child here! We immediately withdrew and while Ms Jenny and Ms Pat handled the situation courteously and refunded tuition and deposit without delays, the experience left me deeply concerned. During the time my son was enrolled, there was also an extraordinary amount of staff turnover. Several teachers who had left stayed in touch with us and told us they had left because of poor working conditions and low pay ($13/hr). There was also a woman at the front door (Ms Jessica 2021-2023) who was consistently rude and made morning drop-off unpleasant for families. She was eventually replaced only after she moved to New York. Another thing that always bothered me was the overwhelming smell of cleaning chemicals. I understand and appreciate the importance of cleanliness, but my son would often come home smelling strongly of Fabuloso. It was so strong that I found myself wondering whether the school was relying too heavily on chemicals rather than using more thorough cleaning methods such as deep or steam cleaning. I genuinely dreaded that smell when I picked him up. To make a long story short, there are better options out there. After leaving Mariner Montessori, we enrolled our son at Children's Village in West University, and our experience there was absolutely wonderful year after year. Mariner Montessori was a very difficult experience for us, and unfortunately, even years later, I still have not forgotten it. I heard a similar concerns from another parent, and finally decided it was important to share my experience as well. I hope this helps other families make an informed decision. Each school has their pros and cons.

A few months before the wedding, we weren't sure if we wanted to spend extra money on taking dance lessons for the wedding, but as the date was getting closer, we were feeling the pressure of putting together something, so we decided to check out yelp and came across The Dance Whisperer. We felt the price was reasonable, and I had confidence based on reviews that Rebecca would be able to help us from looking ridiculous during our first dance and sure enough she made us look amazing! Everyone raved about how great we were and even my mom said our first dance was so amazing and my mom RARELY compliments anyone or anything. Each appointment is 45 minutes. EXACTLY 45 minutes. If she says be there at 5:30pm, you better not knock on that door at 5:29pm (and steal a minute from the previous couple) or at 5:31pm because you already cut into your time slot. Of course, you can double book. That said, she is very professional and methodical in her guidance, and seems to live and breath the art of dance!

As a former dance teacher myself, I couldn't dream of a better place for my child to dance. The Lab is spacious, clean, and bright. Both of the studios have viewing windows, so parents can observe their child's classes. There are even 2 locker rooms for changes between classes. When I first saw the schedule, I thought the classes were long in duration for the 6-8 year olds. I was wrong, the teachers are so amazing that they keep them engaged for 90 minute ballet lessons! The classes are longer than most that you will find in the area, because of the individual attention they give to each student. I can't say enough about the instructors. I have had a pleasure to observe all of them. They are all professional, and have great choreography. The best thing is that they all make great corrections to technique and posture in a positive manner. They do not lazily overlook things that can lead to injury. Also, the most important is their is no favoritism. Everyone gets the same amount of love and attention. From talking to other parents in the studio, my daughter isn't the only one practicing everywhere we go (even the grocery store).
