My husband and I started off with a Groupon for the beginner ballroom classes because we wanted to…read morelearn some basics before our wedding. We enjoyed it SO MUCH that we actually did another 2 months of group classes (Pre-Intermediate) and then did 3 private lessons with Demetra for our first dance! The group lessons were a lot of fun and non-threatening. Gloria made it very easy by showing you a basic move and having the whole class repeat the same move multiple times. Over the weeks, she will add more steps to the one you learned the previous week. We rarely practiced when we got home, but when we went back the following week and did a refresher at the beginning of the class.. it was like riding a bike! It really is a great value- $50 for 4 classes a month and you get to learn all sorts of styles of ballroom dancing (waltz, foxtrot, tango, cha cha, rumba, and jitterbug). I also liked that the classes were in the evening (7 or 8pm depending on your skill set) which made it easy since traffic is mostly gone by then. They also have a large parking lot so no need to worry about parking. For our private lessons, we had Demetra and she was such a sweetheart! We gave her our first dance selection prior to meeting and when we had our first lesson, she already had the styles (cha cha and jitterbug) chosen and taught us the essentials like the dance entrance and dip at the end. She was very patient with us and would show us steps multiple times until we were comfortable with it. She also taught us exercises to do at home that helped us with hip movements for the cha cha. We learned so much from her and we had so many compliments on our first dance and how great we looked. She truly made our big day extra special!

I went to this school for their monthly salsa social in August. I can truly say I had a really good…read moretime! I didn't even know anyone! Well, Eva L and my friend Jay went with me, so I guess I knew THEM. (lol) The school is located on Weslayan in the River Oaks area. It is easy to miss as you have to walk into the building to see it. The only way I can remember to get there is to look for the Walgreens and it is next to it. It costs $10 for the social and that includes water and some snacks! I was pretty happy about that. I prefer to pay a little more and not have to bother buying water. The music was OK, a little too main stream for me, but still good enough to have a good time. I danced with a lot of people I didn't know. I definitely danced with at least 20 people and they were at all levels of dancing! I really loved that they were all really nice and welcoming. Yes, I will go to this social again!! See you on the dance floor!

This review is only for bellydance w Debbie. (The African…read moredance, African drums and flamenco look really good here too.) Background: In NYC, I was w Bellyqueen studying directly under Kaeshi. Apparently I was good enough that I was asked by her and a few others to audition for the troupe which performs internationally. After leaving NYC, I found no adequate bellydance teacher in SF nor Hawaii, until I got here to HTX. Debbie was recommended to me by a student in one of my fitness classes where I had incorporated some bellydance moves. Studying w Debbie: Debbie hands down beats all my study in NYC. (Although her style w eyes and directing viewer attention is quite a bit different. Much more playful.) She'll push you in dance techniques if she sees you're up for it. I am always definitely up for it, and pushing expectations of physical abilities and boundaries. However skilled I was before, she tripled my abilities/accuracy/muscle isolation skills. I did notice she'll pace for students who aren't so physically or mentally inclined (without sacrificing the learning curve of more ambitious/skilled students) --so no need for newbies to be intimidated to attend a class w her. She's very warm, friendly, patient, and a gifted dance teacher. Also, she is always vivacious, and full of stories in and out of class, and within the troupe. I had to quit the troupe bc I'm not a late night person (performances tend to be 9pm or much later), and I got seriously injured from a car accident. I am still hoping to return to the classes bc Debbie is an amazing teacher. Zills: She makes it considerably less intimidating, and you simultaneously play w movement and pace. Veil: Very fun. She tends towards a coquettish to sexy style. I think she has a background in burlesque.

I was looking online for Zumba classes when I found Revolve Pole studio.. I had been interested…read morein pole dancing classes ever since seeing it on the Oprah Winfrey show, I think it was called the X factor. I started to take the Intro to Pole before Hurricane Harvey hit Houston. I was able to complete 4 of the 8 weeks. Then life became all about finding another vehicle, keep up with my (new) home health job, and live in a house while it was being repaired from 3-4 ft of water sitting in it for 3 days. For nine years I have wanted to return to studio. That's how good they are. I still remember many of the things I learned during those short four classes. I eventually bought my own pole for home use and got to the point where I was able to do the fireman's spin. I guess my point is, for nine years, I have not forgotten this place or the ladieswho started it as one of them was our instructor.(Jasmine?) They were so inspiring and made me feel very comfortable which is difficult because I'm a large woman. Even when I was height/weight proportionate I was a large Girl, annd am even larger girl now after going through menopause. I can't think of any better place to receive the motivation and inspiration that women need, to relearn the "sexy" that so many of us loose sight of due to the daily grind, And get back that confidence that somehow comes with this type of work out. No gym membership can do that!

The students always really seem to enjoy it, and somehow they come up with a new theme each year.

You literally have to push your way through the crowds of waiting siblings, etc. No wonder why the majority of the kids here have horrible attitudes and no respect. I hate that I have to start the week off with a post of this nature, but I just want everyone in…read morethe Houston dance community to be aware of unprofessional, inconsiderate people practicing bad business in our city. This is even worse for me to have to do because of the importance of supporting local and black-owned businesses, but this one, in particular, is no longer deserving of that, and quite frankly, hasn't been for a while. Therefore, I encourage everyone to take their money, time, and talents elsewhere as we have many other amazing options in this city. I recently did some work for Courtney White of B.U. for the Arts for which I was promised compensation. However, on the day that I was told I would receive said compensation Courtney completely ignored all of my attempts to contact him, and he even took it a step further and proceeded to block me on all social media platforms as if I was the one causing the issue. If you know Courtney then you also know how he loves to preach about supporting other artists, but when the tables are turned, it's not reciprocated by him. I honestly am still in shock that situations like this can and still exist within a community like ours where so many of us know and/or work consistently with each other. Courtney, I have to say, it's very bold of you, and it tells me a lot about what you think of yourself and your business (especially since this isn't your first rodeo with compensation issues). It really disappoints me to watch someone like you who is living one of my long-term goals of owning a studio treat it so carelessly. Although you blocked me on social media, I'm sure you'll see this message at some point considering how many mutual contacts we have. I hope that it causes you to do some reflecting and make some changes in your life, both personal and business. Since 2012, this space has provided me with a thoughtful program of dance, conditioning and movement formats -- from traditional eastern and western formats to stylized fusion of all things in-between. My experience at Dauntless has helped my body heal and grow in ways never expected. I'm 51 and have returned to dance only five years ago after a 27 year hiatus. Not only have I lost weight, become strong and changed my diet (forever).... I have been able to tap into new internal strength as well as a creative vibe I never new existed. I highly recommend this studio for those who are curious and ready to do something new in their lives.
