And, it got better. The facility is a bit hidden off of Collier Rd. but once you find it, there's plenty of parking. The entrance area has racks of costumes (most belly dance) that are for sale and they are gorgeous. The woman who handled me informed that they are the largest importer of belly dance costumes in the country. I got all signed up and was using an 8-class card I bought from Half Off Depot (this is an AMAZING deal - go buy one now). The nice lady gave me some info. about the Zumba class I'd be taking and then I just hung out and waited for it. While I was waiting, I perused their display of jewelry and realized that they quickly became my absolute hands-down favorite jewelry store in Atlanta. The line is called "RuePera" and it's exactly the style of jewelry I love and I may be broke if I continue to attend classes here because I may buy every piece. Showing a tremendous amount of self-restraint, I left after class with only one new bracelet. The Zumba instructor was LaWanda and she was awesome. The class was awesome and so much fun. It was my first Zumba class and I'm completely sold on it. I plan to go back for it next week but I'm also really excited about attending a HoopDance class, which uses hula hoops! I love to hula hoop. The studio where the classes are is very large, with a nice dance floor and mirrors, and it appears to be capable of being set up as a performance space, as well... I think they rent it out for parties, too. In general, their whole facility is very large, and it's really nice. The people here are super nice and they offer a lot of different classes, pretty much all on evenings and weekends. This is definitely one of my favorite dance/fitness facilities I have discovered so far. I'll definitely be back!

However, I found out that the front desk has been overcharging people... and I believe it because when I asked how much the class was he hemmed and hawed, looked at me for a while, and then finally gave me a price. There should be nothing to think about, it costs what it costs. I'd hate to go elsewhere because I like the instructors here, but I have to say with my overall experience, I'd rather keep looking for a place to shed my sweat.

I am a beginner level dancer so it could have been my lack of knowledge but it was very confusing and I left feeling like I didn't know any more about the dance than when I started. If you come to an event after hours you will be able to park somewhere on the street for free; after 6 p.m. on weekdays. Other than that you may have to pay for parking and walk to the studio. Just prepare yourself and leave early enough to find a parking spot or take MARTA. You'll enjoy the classes you take here, you won't enjoy spending a lot of time looking for somewhere to park.

They provided fun, easy-to-follow instruction for those who wanted to learn some swing moves and taught more complex moves to folks with more experience. They managed to get several folks from the firm out on the dance floor - including many whom I didn't expect to give it a shot! I decided I needed to find the best Salsa teacher and studio in Atlanta and I wasn't going to settle for second best. After trying most of the studios and teachers in Atlanta, I finally found Fuquan. What impressed me most about him I listed below to explain why his classes are different. Fuquan teaches Salsa On 2 vs. Salsa On 1. Now at first, this seems like a trivial difference. What you quickly learn when talking to other students that are a big difference. In reality, if you are starting from the beginning like me, you can only learn one style at a time. Salsa on 2 almost everyone agrees is the more fun and creative dance of the two just because you have more time compared to On 1. Now what Fuquan does expertly teaches the little wrinkles that add style to your drapes, spins, and turns. A lot of these wrinkles will make you look terrific on the dance floor. The other teachers rarely teach you the style components to beginners and only the big moves. The style is the fun part as Salsa is a versatile dance. Now Fuquan knows his stuff. He has a way of explaining taking complicated directions and making them easy to understand. For instance, he takes obtuse concepts like a cross-over lead and makes it accessible and straightforward in a way others can't. I would find a lot of the other teachers would repeat the same instruction over and over again. However, Fuquan will change his guidance when I needed it. This seems like a simple difference, but it's profound when you're starting out. Last, the classes are just more fun. Most of Fuquan's lessons, he is making a ton of jokes which keeps everyone laughing and light. Dancing in his classes feels more natural since his humor takes the edge off of dancing with a complete stranger. He has also been very kind and patient which helps when your first starting out like me. To make a long story short. It's been a blast, and I'm glad I take classes at his studio.

Although I've danced a little bit of salsa and bachata in the past, with the help of Candace and Fuquan, I've been able to improve my foundations, correct bad habits I had picked up, and become a better dancer. They host a dance social called Mambo Mayhem every third Saturday of the month, which includes a class at the beginning, followed by social dancing for the rest of the night which is a great way to complement and practice what you're learning in class. She's kind of quirky and has a vibrant personality. She is a great instructor because she is able to verbalize what body movements to move to help non dancers/those with limited music sense, like my husband, understand the basics. She seems very open to answering questions. She's very knowledgeable. Because of her, I was very happy to sign an additional few classes to learn more about each dance style. D A N C E C L A S S In our first 20 min class we learned the basic steps to: foxtrot, waltz, rumba, and swing. The second class, we learned to change directions and for my husband to turn me, to each of the dances. P R I C E Our Groupon included 2 private (20 mins dance time, scheduled according to your availability), 2 group (open according to their schedule), and 1 party lesson (open according to their schedule) for $25. I come in for my 3rd class and still disorganized despite having only 3 students. All in which have different levels. Level 1 sling class even then is too advanced for me. The instructor just dove right in but i think he forgets that when it comes to students like myself, I have never ever activated or used any muscle movement similar to what they are doing. He said to me you're just overthinking it. Yet the movement isn't understood by me. Even watching, I can't connect my many different movements "just" to do a simple flip into the sling and then have the fabric lay on my pelvis bones, balance and flip legs over. I'm sure this isn't the only way to teach...and I'm gonna look for a place that offers more structured and fluid sessions. Maybe start off with workout routines on The sling then just a "just move your body into any shape" or "just tuck your knees in and JUST bend your arms" then "voila". I won't be paying a drop in cost or even a membership just to hang or have such chaotic class. One minute this and that yet no real idea what those moves are even called. I left 20 minutes early as most moves were really too advanced for me. All I can do I stand in the sling. I'll be buying my own sling and watching videos online it's no different because all sky gym offers is this "watch" and "learn". You grab your own support pad.. They might help "lift you" into position but doesn't help understand how to do It yourself.. Also they do not really look at me when teaching but everyone else. Not really included till I speak up. Maybe it's just my instructor. They should look and make eye contact to EVERY STUDENT. not just one.

The only negative is that the facility was extremely musty smelling and took a while to feel comfortable inhaling. Also, there was a ton of hair (much of which appeared to be pet hair) on the mats.
