I also hired a live swing band and after I introduced Evin and Jules (the bandleader), the two of them worked together to coordinate music and dancing for the event without my having to even ask them to, which I really appreciated. At the party itself, Evin and the dancers who accompanied her were brilliant! They provided fun, easy-to-follow instruction for those who wanted to learn some swing moves and taught more complex moves to folks with more experience. They managed to get several folks from the firm out on the dance floor - including many whom I didn't expect to give it a shot! I would work with Evin/Down South Swing again in a heartbeat and would recommend them to anyone considering them for an event.

After working with Jai and her team, I found them to be motivating, pushing me all the way to the end, encouraging and honest in letting me know where I need to improve. The first phone call we had, she hung up on me while I was still talking. I explained my needs and she felt the need to repeat what I said as if it were her own knowledge.. She has to have the last word on everything and has to say something about everything. The niceness of the studio space and the price is what encouraged me to follow through. She doesn't know how to treat people/professionals! I would recommend the space with 5 but would have to take away 2 because of the poor social and poor professional conduct of Pamela! Just be prepared to have an assumptive and combative interaction when dealing with Pamela. Everyone else seemed to be more kind and the facility was what we needed!

I have been to Studio Dionne once. It was around September 2011. I have a Groupon-Now voucher for 1…read moreclass ($8). I would give this place 4.5 stars. Do bring: water, wear contact lenses, ballet shoes. Some people wear leotards + tights, others wear t-shirt+ shorts. Just wear what is comfortable for you. Location: short distance to I-85. Parking is extremely tricky. The parking spaces are limited. Facility: super clean, very well renovated. The classroom I was in was a little crowded. I took the Monday evening ballet basics class and I had no ballet experience at all. The instructor was a man in his 30s or 40s. I loved the class, the atmosphere was warm and the instructor was quite enthusiastic, however he is sometimes a little strict in my opinion. I thought the adult basic class is for adults who had no experience and who practice ballet for fun. Most of the skills he taught were quite basic, that was until 30 minutes before the class ends. At that time, he increased the difficulty level, and I had a hard time to catch up, especially since I am not familiar with the french terminology. He did correct the form for the students. Price: For adults, Single Class Card costs $20 and 10 Class Card costs $150. And I do not think they run any deals except for the Groupon-Now deal (which I believe is for new students only). So this place is quite expensive in my opinion. Compare with Atlanta Ballet, Dance 411 and Gotta dance Atlanta: Atlanta Ballet-Adult open division: Pros: $10 (student price) drop in price for a 90 mins class. The instructor I had was very patient. Cons: None. Dance 411: Pros: Runs a lot of deals. The instructor I had was very patient. Cons: Hard time to find a parking space, I had to park at a nearby Chinese takeout each time. They discontinued the ballet drop in class and the instructor was teaching only kids classes now. Gotta dance Atlanta: Pros: Runs a lot of deals. Cons: I took the explore ballet class, and the instructor was not very experienced and not quite patient. I do not recommend explore ballet class taught by Rikki. Also the facility is not as well renovated as Studio Dionne.

Don't practice here if you menstruate! I went to the first class of a six-week beginner course…read more Despite the advertisement that the course would be taught by "authorized ashtanga instructors", the "authorized instructors" were not even in the building - the course was taught by trainees. The bigger problem, however, was that the instruction that we received - including the handouts written by Todd - was overtly sexist. MEN can practice yoga whenever they want at the studio. WOMEN are not allowed to practice during their "moon cycle". This is not only taught and enforced, but there is even a sign on the wall in the entrance to the studio, in case you forgot and showed up on your period. I asked the "trainee instructors" about the no-yoga-on-the-rag rule and they recited some BS about how women's energy flows in a different direction than men. After the first class, I decided not to return and emailed the studio. I told them that I had a fundamental disagreement with participating in an environment that condones sexism and asked for a refund of the fee for the course, minus the cost of the single class that I attended. Not only did Todd refuse to refund ANY of my money, but he actually defended the period rule. Here, I'll quote him (including his misspellings of "menstruation" and "exercise"): "To address your specific concern, the suggestion for women to not practice during their cycle is based in science not theory. A simple google search of 'does intense exersise affect menstration' will lead to a whole list of related articles on the subject." First off, the fact that this man thinks he needs to educate ("mansplain") a woman on the topic of menstruation is problematic in and of itself. Second, it was never presented as a "suggestion". Third and most important, despite his unnamed sources found in the far reaches of the internet, HE IS BLATANTLY WRONG. There is NO scientific support for the idea that a woman should not exercise on her period. You can read this yourself on reputable sites such as womenshealth.gov (the U.S. Office on Women's Health). In fact, many of them specifically cite yoga as being one of the best forms of exercise to do on your period because it can help relieve some of the uncomfortable symptoms such as cramping. According to the Mayo Clinic, one of the "self-care tips if you're experiencing painful periods" says "[p]ractice meditation, yoga or other relaxation techniques." Even for someone who can't spell "exercise", it seems like he should have been able to figure this one out. Nope. I sent a lengthy email explaining everything, but he just ignored it. I filed a dispute with Amex, which he contested. So, yeah, I would not recommend having anything to do with them.
