The Atlanta Dance Academy - Adult Tap

The Atlanta Dance Academy

Ballet has truly been a game-changer for me, and The Atlanta Dance Academy has played a huge role…read morein that transformation. I take the Adult Beginner Ballet and Barre classes. Kara Jacobson is a phenomenal instructor, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping each dancer grow. She creates such a welcoming and supportive environment, where I feel both safe and encouraged to push myself. Her focus on technique and alignment is just what I needed as someone starting later in life. Every class is challenging in the best way and leaves me feeling stronger, more graceful, and more confident. What I love most is how this space feels like a true community. The energy is positive, and the staff is friendly. Whether you're brand new to ballet or getting back into it, I can't recommend this studio enough. Coming here has been one of the best decisions I've made for my body and mind. I always leave feeling inspired!

I shared with her that I had no experience but was looking to learn in a fun environment. She recommended Mr.C's Beginners Ballet. I mentioned that I read the description and that the class was not a 101 class. She was friendly and encouraged me so I thought I would give it a shot. When I arrived I shared with the woman wearing glasses at the check in desk that this was my first time. She was short with me and I had to ask where to go until the class started. I came out before class started and mentioned it looked as though everyone had quite a bit of experience. The three women at the front including Sarah assured me that it would be uncomfortable but to give it a try. I even asked if Mr.C would yell and they all said no. I had and eerily similar experience to the other reviewers with no experience. I was berated throughout the entire class. Even while I cried Mr. C persisted on critiquing me. He moved my head and forced me to look at him. I also lost the will to continue when everyone had to dance across the room. As he was shouting that I had to do it I calmly said I had enough. I went to gather my thing and he thrust his hands at me and shouted, "NEVER COME BACK!" As I put my shoes on in the lobby not one of the three women said a word. I would not recommend TADA. My goal was to learn, not be humiliated. This is not ok for anyone. I have read the review responses on Mr.C's background and I don't think this serves as an excuse for rude and unprofessional behavior. Perhaps just be direct and let adult beginners know that this isn't the place to learn. What I did take away was a reminder that when you are an expert and someone is a novice to always be patient and encouraging. The world could use more patience and kindness.

The class was really full and it was hard to see what she was doing and it was very hard to follow. A few songs she would just walk off mid dance. I am a beginner level dancer so it could have been my lack of knowledge but it was very confusing and I left feeling like I didn't know any more about the dance than when I started. It's possible it was challenging because there were so many people there and that paid classes are much better since this was a free event.

I have been here for a number of classes and events and the issue I have has always been the same. PARKING!!! OMG!!!!! Parking at this studio is atrocious. They literally have 7 spots in the back of the building IF you can find it. Those spots are so tight that it also depends on the type of vehicle you drive....whether or not you will get a coveted spot. I adore this business, but PARKING......is horrible. If you come to an event after hours you will be able to park somewhere on the street for free; after 6 p.m. on weekdays. Other than that you may have to pay for parking and walk to the studio. Just prepare yourself and leave early enough to find a parking spot or take MARTA. You'll enjoy the classes you take here, you won't enjoy spending a lot of time looking for somewhere to park.

I have been to Studio Dionne once. It was around September 2011. I have a Groupon-Now voucher for 1…read moreclass ($8). I would give this place 4.5 stars. Do bring: water, wear contact lenses, ballet shoes. Some people wear leotards + tights, others wear t-shirt+ shorts. Just wear what is comfortable for you. Location: short distance to I-85. Parking is extremely tricky. The parking spaces are limited. Facility: super clean, very well renovated. The classroom I was in was a little crowded. I took the Monday evening ballet basics class and I had no ballet experience at all. The instructor was a man in his 30s or 40s. I loved the class, the atmosphere was warm and the instructor was quite enthusiastic, however he is sometimes a little strict in my opinion. I thought the adult basic class is for adults who had no experience and who practice ballet for fun. Most of the skills he taught were quite basic, that was until 30 minutes before the class ends. At that time, he increased the difficulty level, and I had a hard time to catch up, especially since I am not familiar with the french terminology. He did correct the form for the students. Price: For adults, Single Class Card costs $20 and 10 Class Card costs $150. And I do not think they run any deals except for the Groupon-Now deal (which I believe is for new students only). So this place is quite expensive in my opinion. Compare with Atlanta Ballet, Dance 411 and Gotta dance Atlanta: Atlanta Ballet-Adult open division: Pros: $10 (student price) drop in price for a 90 mins class. The instructor I had was very patient. Cons: None. Dance 411: Pros: Runs a lot of deals. The instructor I had was very patient. Cons: Hard time to find a parking space, I had to park at a nearby Chinese takeout each time. They discontinued the ballet drop in class and the instructor was teaching only kids classes now. Gotta dance Atlanta: Pros: Runs a lot of deals. Cons: I took the explore ballet class, and the instructor was not very experienced and not quite patient. I do not recommend explore ballet class taught by Rikki. Also the facility is not as well renovated as Studio Dionne.

The first phone call we had, she hung up on me while I was still talking. I explained my needs and she felt the need to repeat what I said as if it were her own knowledge.. She has to have the last word on everything and has to say something about everything. The niceness of the studio space and the price is what encouraged me to follow through. She doesn't know how to treat people/professionals! I would recommend the space with 5 but would have to take away 2 because of the poor social and poor professional conduct of Pamela! Just be prepared to have an assumptive and combative interaction when dealing with Pamela. Everyone else seemed to be more kind and the facility was what we needed!
