The employee/manager/owner whoever it was could have definitely done better. I understand rules but also a little grace goes a long way. For those that like the long version: Pole dancing is something I find very beautiful but have not had the guts to try until now. Today I visited Vertical Joe's for the first time. I did a fair amount of research before making the decision to check this place out. The hope was to make this place a home where I could find more empowerment. I attempted to register for a mega pass online. I was unable to so instead registered for the 6 p.m. class that I intended to attend anyway. Fast forward to me being pulled out of class because there was no payment on file. I hadn't made a payment, my intention was to pay cash for the mega pass before class. My friend and I arrived late because we came here straight from work. We were allowed in without my registration being verified I guess?  A mistake was made by staff and I was allowed to go into the class. I was told I shouldn't have gone to class without paying. Ok. This is a mistake on the end of the establishment. I misunderstood the site. I thought we could pay cash because it was on option in the checkout window. Payments are only made online. Ok. But to get pulled out of the class for a 10 dollar payment is excessive.

The first 30 min you run through the basics of about 4-5 moves and then broken into a large circle and will change partners and practice the moves with music. Although I've danced a little bit of salsa and bachata in the past, with the help of Candace and Fuquan, I've been able to improve my foundations, correct bad habits I had picked up, and become a better dancer. They host a dance social called Mambo Mayhem every third Saturday of the month, which includes a class at the beginning, followed by social dancing for the rest of the night which is a great way to complement and practice what you're learning in class. I always look forward to both the classes (especially Afro mambo) and Mambo Mayhem, as well as seeing all the friends I've made here. If you've been thinking about taking classes, just do it! Walk directly out of the parking lot area to the red brick building with the double doors and it's right there on the right side. It's a fairly large and open dance space. A M B I A N C E Very open and friendly. On the dance floor, there are usually many instructors teaching their own clients. It's loud enough to make you feel comfortable and not like others are staring. But quiet enough for you to easily listen and converse with your instructor. Front desk personnel are friendly and quick. Make some small talk but multitask, get the job done and you're out of there! I N S T R U C T O R Dia, our dance instructor, was very warm and friendly. She's kind of quirky and has a vibrant personality. She is a great instructor because she is able to verbalize what body movements to move to help non dancers/those with limited music sense, like my husband, understand the basics. She seems very open to answering questions. She's very knowledgeable. Because of her, I was very happy to sign an additional few classes to learn more about each dance style. D A N C E C L A S S In our first 20 min class we learned the basic steps to: foxtrot, waltz, rumba, and swing. The second class, we learned to change directions and for my husband to turn me, to each of the dances. P R I C E Our Groupon included 2 private (20 mins dance time, scheduled according to your availability), 2 group (open according to their schedule), and 1 party lesson (open according to their schedule) for $25. What I like is their mind body app that makes viewing and booking effortless. Membership prices are very affordable and great combinations of types of aerial excercise equipments (eg sling) The downside for me is that the first instructor courses were disorganized and not many get to try everything. felt rushed to briefly do every single one. I come in for my 3rd class and still disorganized despite having only 3 students. All in which have different levels. Level 1 sling class even then is too advanced for me. The instructor just dove right in but i think he forgets that when it comes to students like myself, I have never ever activated or used any muscle movement similar to what they are doing. He said to me you're just overthinking it. Yet the movement isn't understood by me. Even watching, I can't connect my many different movements "just" to do a simple flip into the sling and then have the fabric lay on my pelvis bones, balance and flip legs over. I'm sure this isn't the only way to teach...and I'm gonna look for a place that offers more structured and fluid sessions. Maybe start off with workout routines on The sling then just a "just move your body into any shape" or "just tuck your knees in and JUST bend your arms" then "voila". I won't be paying a drop in cost or even a membership just to hang or have such chaotic class. One minute this and that yet no real idea what those moves are even called. I left 20 minutes early as most moves were really too advanced for me. All I can do I stand in the sling. I'll be buying my own sling and watching videos online it's no different because all sky gym offers is this "watch" and "learn". You grab your own support pad.. They might help "lift you" into position but doesn't help understand how to do It yourself.. Also they do not really look at me when teaching but everyone else. Not really included till I speak up. Maybe it's just my instructor. They should look and make eye contact to EVERY STUDENT. not just one.

The facility is a lot smaller than expected and the class size had about five too many people in it. The instructor was approachable and enjoyable. And her assistants were pleasant as well. The only negative is that the facility was extremely musty smelling and took a while to feel comfortable inhaling. Also, there was a ton of hair (much of which appeared to be pet hair) on the mats. I would recommend this facility to others, $19 for an hour first class is a great deal.

There's parking in the back but if that is full you can park in the garage next to the building. Once inside the facility you are really greeted with a sense of calm. It's is quiet and smells really good. The customer service is really friendly and our instructor, Kim, was absolutely AHHHMAZING! She was passionate but not in an aggressive way. She spoke with a big smile and was funny, engaging, and very knowledgeable. I appreciated her explaining the history of Pilates and how it really works and aligns the body. With all the pounding our bodies take from running and lifting, Pilates really helps to get your body in shape while taking good care of your body at the same time. I would definitely come again but it's not in my budget. I never knew Pilates was so expensive. It's like $90/session. YIKES. With Atlanta being a hub of fitness options I would choose to go somewhere else routinely, but would definitely put my coins together for a quarterly session at CORE. You get what you pay for here and that is superior quality service and fitness training!
