Sky Barre - Up, up and away!

Sky Barre was on my bucket list forever and it was worth the wait! A private party costs $245,…read moreminimum of 7 to book. Drop-ins cost $35 per person for 50 minutes so arrive early. Park free in the small lot or the Publix parking deck across the street. Our instructor CoCo patiently waited for my crew, but the clock was running because of other bookings. The environment is cool and clean with cubbies for personal items/shoes. You enter the mat barefoot or in socks. The website mentions 30-minute-high intensity low impact cardio classes, indoor water rowers, aerial sling yoga to release tension etc. We had a P-Valley themed party, so I knew it was going down! We each picked a Sky Barre nickname and CoCo broke down the routine into steps. I haven't worked out in awhile and I have zero upper body strength, so I was nervous but willing to try. I couldn't do some of the moves but CoCo made modifications. It's not easy. Initially, it felt like the aerial silks were burning into my feet, butt and side. But it's more discomfort than pain and she said you get used to it. An hour wasn't enough time to learn the routine. But you are your own audience so it's more about feeling confident, getting out of your head and having fun! We had a glow party under blacklights, so highlighter colors really pop! The lights were dimmed, the track was played, and we killed our routine. Not! We did it 2x and I still forgot half the moves! The best part is how sexy you feel if you let yourself go. But when I played the video later it was more like the rhythmless nation! At the end we cheered each other on as we freestyle danced in a circle. Water was provided and we said our goodbyes. Sky Barre core + cardio = full body workout. I was sore for few days but it was worth it! Memberships start at $150 (1 hr a week, 12 drop-ins per month). There's a $99 3-week unlimited beginner class promo for newbies. If you can afford it and you're brave enough to try, drop in for a fun, creative workout. I recommend!

Came to celebrate my friend birthday and I'm happy I didn't punk out. I struggled a bit with being upside-down but other than that, I felt like I was a pro at this. ONE major thing you have to know about this place. The address on Yelp is not its physical…read morelocation, but the location of the mailbox the owner keeps. The owner for whatever reason doesn't want to know the location of the studio to the public except to clients. Basically, read the text message she sends, and it should be in Virginia-Highlands area. If you are going near Trader Joe's, you are in the wrong location. HOWEVER... I am giving 5 stars despite that inconvenience because of how amazing the massage experience is. I have been getting massages since I was a teen and Krista is probably the 2nd best massage I have ever received period. As someone who does a lot of sports stuff, I need regular massages monthly, and Krista just gave a magical healing experience.

I got a treatment from krista using sound therapy and vibration and while I'm still a little shocked that it helped, it HELPED SO MUCH! Almost immediately I could hold weight on that foot. It was a little incredible. Going into my appointment I really thought my session would be more therapeutic for the stress of not being able to walk anywhere, not actually address the "not being able to walk" part of it. I highly recommend Krista!

The employee/manager/owner whoever it was could have definitely done better. I understand rules but also a little grace goes a long way. For those that like the long version: Pole dancing is something I find very beautiful but have not had the guts to try until now. Today I visited Vertical Joe's for the first time. I did a fair amount of research before making the decision to check this place out. The hope was to make this place a home where I could find more empowerment. I attempted to register for a mega pass online. I was unable to so instead registered for the 6 p.m. class that I intended to attend anyway. Fast forward to me being pulled out of class because there was no payment on file. I hadn't made a payment, my intention was to pay cash for the mega pass before class. My friend and I arrived late because we came here straight from work. We were allowed in without my registration being verified I guess?  A mistake was made by staff and I was allowed to go into the class. I was told I shouldn't have gone to class without paying. Ok. This is a mistake on the end of the establishment. I misunderstood the site. I thought we could pay cash because it was on option in the checkout window. Payments are only made online. Ok. But to get pulled out of the class for a 10 dollar payment is excessive.

From the very beginning, Casey and Milton were SUPER professional and flexible when it came to booking, viewing and ultimately reserving the event space. They went out of their way to deliver excellent customer service, on many instances coming in to the venue before/after hours to accommodate my family's schedule. They stayed throughout the entire event and were extremely responsive to any requests we had through the entire event. I highly recommend this company. Our event had roughly 100 people and we utilized the smaller of the 2 event spaces and it was MORE than enough room. We brought in our own food and beverages and the team at Ikonic Dance allowed us to use their kitchenette space, as well as 50 in house chairs and tables. There were 2 restrooms as well as a waiting area at the front of the venue. They had a freshly installed wood dance floor completed before our event which was an added benefit. The facility overall is in EXCELLENT condition.

TLDR; worth the time and $60 (Atlanta)…read more A wide variety in act quality; some left the audience genuinely exclaiming and cursing, some were filler, and some I wanted to just be over with (invisible circus, couch mime with female audience volunteer...) Incredible vocals and music throughout. There are no bad seats in terms of angle, but note the slope is gentle and shorter audience members may want to ensure they end up in the front. Seats are narrow; you will likely touch your neighbor Interior of tent is well heated. Come on time; doors close between acts.

Just when I thought I might have "Cirque fatigue," VOLTA really impressed me. It reinvigorated my…read moreinterest in Cirque du Soleil. I've been to seven Cirque shows over the past 11 years (http://bit.ly/2MNU0st). With the exception of LUZIA, I've rated every show five stars. Cirque du Soleil shows are consistently amazing. That said, VOLTA is my favorite one yet and I'm not sure I've said that about any Cirque show up to this point. For me, it's the best of the best. I enjoyed everything about it: the story, the acts, the music, the costumes and makeup, and the set design. It was all superb. VOLTA is playing in Atlanta from October 10, 2019 to January 5, 2020. Cirque du Soleil set up their big top, the Grand Chapiteau, in its usual spot in Atlantic Station. We saw VOLTA this past weekend (opening weekend). It was sold out. A quick rundown of the Cirque shows I've seen, all in Atlantic Station: * Kooza - 1/23/2009 * Ovo - 9/18/2010 * Totem - 11/3/2012 * Amaluna - 10/28/2014 * Kurios - 3/15/2016 * Luzia - 9/28/2017 * Volta - 10/12/2019 Logistically-speaking, not much sets VOLTA apart from other Cirque shows that have toured through Atlanta. Parking is plentiful in the two-story Atlantic Station deck. You'll have to pay to park. I'm not sure what the price is because we walked this year. The Grand Chapiteau hasn't changed significantly over the last 11 years. It's a relatively intimate venue with 2,500 seats. There's hardly a bad seat in the house. The bad seats are those with viewing angles partially blocked by tent poles. On Cirque's website (https://cirk.me/2MMH7Pv), tickets start at $49 per person before taxes and fees. This year, one of our friends got us tickets through Goldstar. We paid $66.75 per person after taxes and fees for seats in Section 204, Row N. I guesstimate we were about two-thirds of the way back from the front row on the right side of the stage with a clear, unobstructed view. Check out my photos for reference. Speaking of photography, in recent years, Cirque du Soleil has loosened their restrictions. Before, pictures were forbidden. As of a few years ago, guests are allowed to take non-flash photography. Be sure to turn off your flash and dim your screen. Show up early or you may not get seated until after one or more acts are over. The site opens 45 minutes before showtime and the big top opens 30 minutes before. Allow yourself plenty of time to park, walk, use the restroom, buy gifts/concessions, etc. Our show started promptly at 4:30pm and ended just before 6:45pm, so the total elapsed time was about 2 hours 15 minutes including a 25-minute intermission. Even though you may receive PDF tickets intended for printing, you actually don't have to print anything. The ticket scanners can scan the tickets on your phone. Acts can vary slightly from show to show. Here's what we saw (might be missing some things): 1. The show started off in a futuristic dystopia game show setting with mini acts like juggling, human-sized circle balancing, jump rope, and contemporary dance. It was Black-Mirror-esque. 2. Choreographed precision-walking, roller-skating, and a hand-to-hand duo on a single unicycle. 3. "Acro Lamp." An aerialist performed maneuvers on a lamp rope suspended high above the stage. 4. Trampo-wall. Trampoline walls are some of my Cirque acts and this was definitely one of my favorite acts from VOLTA. I particularly loved the choreography, music, and costumes. The music had a TRON-esque 80s techno vibe and the performers were dressed in very bright colors, also evoking 80s culture. Combined with a rotating trampo-wall and bright lights synced to the music, this was really fun to watch. 5. Mr. Wow and the Mr. Wow Show. Washing machine act. Funny. 6. Flatland BMX and ballet duo. This was one of the more emotional acts of the show and it had my fiancee in tears due to its moving score and beautiful symbolism of the love between a mother and son. 7. Swiss rings/bungee, like super high-flying gymnastics. - INTERMISSION - 8. Acrobatic ladder duo. Two ladders, stacked almost to the top of the tent. 9. "Shape Diving." People jumping through hoops, choreographed, with increasing difficulty. The only screw-up of the show happened during this act. 10. Mr. Wow beach scene. Funny, but not as funny as the washing machine act. 11. Diabolo (Chinese yo-yo). Most jaw-dropping diabolo performance I've seen. The way the performer "whipped" diabolos, one-handed, and kept them suspended in mid-air was incredible. 12. Hair suspension. Fantastic performance, but the pop Indian/Bollywood music and theme didn't seem to fit in with the rest of VOLTA. 13. Contemporary dance. My least favorite of the acts. 14. Aerial straps. Standard Cirque fare (which means great). 15. Four-man BMX performance on an expanded stage. Yes, BMX in Cirque du Soleil and it works. Compared to other Cirque shows, I like how this one incorporated more technology. Big video displays on stage too. TL;DR - Go see VOLTA.
