This is my 800th review and it goes to Dana's Tailoring. It's rather fitting (no pun intended) to give a 5 star review such a milestone spot. Recently, I lost weight. It wasn't long before my jeans became too loose in the waist to be worn any longer so...time to go shopping for new jeans. As I've been a fan of LL Bean, I headed to a store. Even though a few years ago, LL Bean screwed up the pockets in their women's jeans, I did like the way they fit me. Once I had the new jeans, I set out to find a tailor who could fix the pockets by making them deeper. Much to my surprise, many of the tailors in my area don't do that work. Finally, I emailed 2 tailors to ask if they did such work. Dana was the first one to respond. She told me to bring them to her and she would see what she could do. FWIW, the second tailor answered much later to say she did such work, too, but by then I had gone to Dana. When I brought the 2 pairs of jeans to Dana, I was sure to bring along an older pair of jeans that had good pockets so she could see how deep I wanted the pockets to be. She was glad I had brought the old ones along. Then I hit a roadblock---she asked if I had brought along fabric for the pockets! Given that I hadn't used a tailor since I was in my 20s and that was to hem a dress, I was clueless. So...off to Jo-Ann Fabrics to buy material. Researching the subject, I bought a yard of cotton/polyester blend. I washed the fabric, then brought it to Dana. She said my jeans would be ready in two weeks. While I had hoped for faster turnaround, I know Dana is busy. I picked up the finished jeans yesterday. Today, I wore a pair and was wowed by the work Dana had done. They were done in such a way that they appear to be seamless. Plus they are slightly deeper which I don't mind at all! When I buy jeans again, I'm taking them to Dana. I had leftover fabric from the pocket material so that's one step saved. Even though from start (buying the jeans) to finish (getting them back), it took a month, it was worth the wait! Dana is very skilled and it's clear that she does a lot of business. When I picked up the jeans, someone was walking out with her finished items. Inside, there was a woman wearing a gown and waiting for Dana to take measurements. Since my last review, I have gotten several other jeans and pants tapered and hemmed by Dana. Dana is still the absolute BEST. I'm so glad I've found her! I love her detailed work and how well she communicates with you when doing your fitting to ensure she understands what you want. Turnaround for alterations are also extremely reasonable, efficient, and quick. My alterations have always been on time. She's also not short on recommendations on what can and cannot be done, which I really appreciate. I have a few dresses and coats in my closet I'm cleaning out that I want a more fitted look for, and am excited to bring them in to Dana to get them tailored. There's no one else I trust with alterations when it comes to my clothes. I can whole-heartedly trust and recommend Dana. She is so wonderful and sweet!!! Dana is the most fantastic tailor in the area!!! Myself, along with my husband, have brought her many items of clothing to alter over the past 2+ years. Her alterations are TOP NOTCH and everything always comes out looking amazing! I've come to appreciate a piece of clothing that is altered to fit my body PERFECTLY!!! I'm often in-between sizes and have learned to buy the bigger size and have Dan alter it for a custom fit :) I've had many dresses that were a little bit too big and would have just returned them, but I know I can bring them to Dana and she can create a custom fit just for my body! I have a short torso, crazy long legs, a small waist and 34C bra size, soooo.... many pieces don't fit very well off the rack. Dana creates magic with her needle and thread!! I had my the zipper on my wedding dress replaced with corset lacing and Miss Dana did a fantastic job. I moved out to the Sterling / S. Riding / Ashburn / Aldie area over a year ago. I've been struggling to find a great tailor, who can alter my suits and pants. After going through several dry-cleaners and having terrible outcomes, I finally came across Dana's Tailoring. First and foremost, Dana is the owner and the actual person who does the work inside your shop! This is huge, as many tailors sub the work out. When I first stopped by she greeted me with a huge smile and was eager to help. I explained I needed three suits altered in the next couple days, as I was leaving on a trip. She accommodated my request and sure enough they were done. What's most important about this is, they were done quickly, but done extremely well! Dana is so kind and professional. I had 1 pair of pants, 1 shorts, and 1 skirt brought in for various hemming, tapering, and taking the waist in. They all came out perfectly; the work was so neat and it is clear how much effort and care Dana put into it. Dana is very up front with how things will come out, and lets you know the limitations of what she can and cannot do. She also explains in detail what she will do to alter your clothes (for example, for my shorts, she gave me the option to take it in by undoing the sides or by adding darts in the back. She recommended the darts because I only needed it taken in a little bit and because it was cheaper!). She's really sweet and I really recommend supporting this business! Having recently moved to the area from the city, I tried to find an alterations spot near me. After reading the good reviews on Yelp, I decided to visit and inquire about alteration rates for my bridesmaids dress. After expecting "reasonable" rates for a simple dress hem, I was shocked with the amount she was charging me! I've had several dress alterations at varying locations in the past and have never paid that much for a hemming. I may add, that this bridesmaid dress was fairly simple-- no multiple levels of fabric stacked on top of each other, and no fancy fabric, etc. I'm not sure if she charges everyone this amount (or if she thought she could take advantage of me)...but if so, I'm sure you can find alternate alteration shops for just the same quality and half the price. Dana is simply the BEST. She is always on time, some times early, and very accommodating - not to mention she is such a sweet and fun person! She has done some complicated alterations for some of my dresses - I have told her what I wanted, and she is always very honest with me what is realistic and what isn't.
