I need to share with you the best dog behavior expert I have worked with in my 20+ years of doing dog rescue! I'm very active with dog rescue, specifically Airedale Rescue. In the last 10 months, I've had calls for three large Airedales with bite histories. All 4 years old or so; pandemic puppies I call them. Airedale puppies that were acquired during the pandemic by people who were not familiar with the breed and either didn't have the skill, the interest or both, to provide the leadership and training Airedales need during their first year. Consequently, all three of them were left on their own resulting in Airedales who thought they were the Pack Leaders and didn't need to listen or follow their owners' instructions. Each of them had a single bite incident, not a biter per se, but were setup to fail due to the situations their humans put them in. I needed help with these Airedales. I didn't need a "trainer"; all these dogs knew their basic commands; what was right and wrong. They just chose not to obey. They all needed a serious attitude adjustment to understand they were safe, their place in the pack and how to be happy in their environment. Enter Dan Irish, dog behaviorist extraordinaire. A colleague of mine recommended Dan as he had helped her with an Airedale in the past. Last December I sent the first Airedale to Dan for a month's boot camp. I was amazed with the dog I got back. She was happy, content and compliant!! No snarking, no growling, no challenging behavior. The next Airedale had been pulled from a shelter where he had no chance of surviving. We first brought Bodie to Dan's ranch about a month after we brought him home from a rescue. Although he was a sweet dog to us, he showed extreme aggression toward other people and dogs. We could not bring him anywhere, nor have anyone over for fear of him potentially hurting someone. It became clear that we could not keep him unless his behavior changed. We also could not surrender him back to the rescue. His aggression had increased so much that he was a danger to the other dogs and he most likely would have been put down. We loved Bodie and did not want to give up on him. We knew a typical dog trainer would not be able to help Bodie with his behavioral issues. As a last effort, we began Googling animal behaviorists. After speaking with Dan for over an hour on the phone, we had hope for the first time that we might be able to save and keep Bodie. We have 7 rescues that we love dearly. One of them (a Chihuahua mix) had a very serious anger problem towards the other dogs in relation to food, toys, treats and bed space. In other words, she was out of control with aggression when triggered and our own efforts did nothing to correct her behavior. One night she attacked the smallest of our pack (over a bone treat) and went for the head in a manner that seemed like an attempted murder. This was now unacceptable...and we were faced with having to do something no matter what. We found Dan on line and after reading through his website decided to give him a try and see if he could help us with her. We had her stay at his place for 2 weeks with him and his dog family and we are glad we did. Diane iles 5/23/14 I have 6 Irish setters that have been trained as service dogs at Dan Irish ranch. He does advice over the phone for anyone needing help to diagnosis and fix your dog.He has given me coaching up getting them to go potty on command, dogs not to go outside of the gates, wait until told ,may get out of car,not to run off .Kenneling up and barking problems. All my neighbors are happier now the barking has stopped and under control. Its amazing how I have 6 dogs ,we have a total of 20 dogs together, When I Go to visit him, my dogs are about a mile away, my dogs act like kids to visit, their best friends and his dogs know too. I wish I had a picture of all of them together and excited to see each other. Its so cute ,they love each other up. I must say ,my dogs and his pack seem to be just as under control as Cesar Millan's pack on the T.V.. Dan has 55 years under his belt with animals ,cats and horses too. My dogs had to be reprogrammed for 6 months due to the fact ,they were taken illegally by animal control.Dan has done a wonderful job to get them back to the way they were after being in a bad situtation. I couldn't have done this without him.Now. my service dogs are back again to normal. I am a disabled person with kidney problems, diabetes and shot term memory loss. Dan and his pack totally transformed my dog! My mixed breed, 80 lb puppy was having issues adapting to his new environment with 2 older dogs after we relocated from one house to another. He had issues with overexcitement and lacked focus; he was certainly not good at listening. Where do I start? I was desperate to find the best- and fast. My guardians led me to Dan. I have an adolescent intact male Presa Canario who is EXTREMELY protective of me. I have had many large guarding dogs before, but he's my first Presa. He's over 150 pounds and I'm a petite woman. He was doing what Presas are bred to do, but in the wrong situations. He would pull me on-leash and react to surroundings. He wasn't reacting to my commands consistently or understanding what was and wasn't a threat. Dan Irish is not just a dog trainer but a high skilled dog behavioralist. When I moved up to the mountains, my Felt she needed to protect me from most dogs that came in our pathway. She loves people of all ages, but I needed to do something about her growling and barking at other dogs. Nevertheless, my husband looked on the Internet for someone who can help us with our dog. Dan Irish is an amazing dog behavioral specialist! He absolutely knows what he's talking about and doesn't give you any BS. I have three dogs two Pitbull males and one female German Shepard. Two years ago Romeo my three year old Pitbull became toy aggressive with my other Pitbull Isaac who is 6 years old. They got into a major fight and there was blood everywhere and then another fight. My dog Isaac ended up getting 90 stiches in the face and Romeo was severely bitten as well. We didn't want to get rid of one of them so they lived their lives separate but in the same house for two years! being stitched out of crates and my husband and I were basically tense all the time that something possibly might happen. We could see the dogs weren't happy and Romeo started being aggressive out of fear when people would come over towards out guests and children with excessive barking. Bill V., I received a 'difficult' 2yr old male dog. he is very large. i recognized he was left to his own devises with little lead training and zero recall. This dog was excellent with goats, he rejected any approach of other humans other than me or my wife. He barked very intimidating towards other people. My observation of this dog he was severely stressed. This comes from limited appropriate socialization. To this dog everything appears as a threat. I did have him neutered and the veterinarian staff thought of him as a sweet dog. I have decades of raising such dogs. His selection of situations of aggressive outbursts gave me concern to him being manageable. Dan is a lifesaver!! Our 1 y/o Australia Queensland/Border Collie mix Ajax had started to become food aggressive. He had bit me on a few occasions breaking skin AND also had bit a couple family members as well. We have a large, stubborn Akita, and had let our training slip over the last couple of years. We found Dan, and over the course of a few super-informative conversations, decided to go with him because we could hear the love of dogs in his voice and knew from his website how much experience he had with big dogs. Dan is the man to go to if you have a behavioral issues. We rescued a dog in November 2018 after having him for 4 months we noticed he was food & toy aggressive dog. One of my dogs had aggression issues before I took him to Dan. He was very aggressive toward other dogs that came within 15 feet of him.
