They deep fried my wings twice to make them "extra crispy" even though I never requested this. When I asked why they would do that without my permission, they had no answer. When I asked if they prepare everyone's food this way, they said no. The wings tasted like hard, greasy cardboard--absolutely disgusting. When I confronted them about it, the employee told me I should have specifically asked them NOT to make it that way. This makes no sense whatsoever, especially since the menu doesn't even offer an "extra crispy" option. This isn't the first time either. On a previous visit, the same woman at the counter asked me if I quote "wanted them extra crispy gurl." First of all, I'm not a "girl"--I'm a 41-year-old woman. Secondly, just because I'm Black does not mean my food needs to be prepared any differently than the standard recipe. They made me pay full price for food I didn't order, which was inedible. Updating my review as I gave it another chance This time ordered 10 dry rub wings and fried pickle chips ($46 with delivery). First, the dry rub wings came with 2 seasoned out of 10. The other 8 had either minimal or no dry rub seasoning. Included pics of my wings vs. their Instagram launch post to show the difference. Second, the pickle chips are somehow now orange?? Maybe they changed the recipe. They're extremely salty and taste like they were cooked in old oil. Either way they don't match the normal pickle chips I'm used to or their own website photo. I will not be ordering from this Dan and John's location again. There's great pub wings around with much better quality and consistency than this overpriced location. I haven't eaten here yet but I'm writing this shout out to Felipe and Robert who work here. My wife took a bad fall in the street a half block away. We went in to see if they could give her a cup of ice for her knee. They went above and beyond to help her. They gave a cup of ice plus a bag of ice rolled in a way that was perfect for her knee. They helped her to an outdoor table and got her seated and kept looking in on us to make sure she was alright. Felipe and Robert. Two fellows who helped restore our faith in humankind. I was heavily disappointed in this place. We chose it for a chill Friday night dinner and it just wasn't that good. Despite it being Valentine's Day, they weren't that busy yet we sat ourselves and had to wait several mins and another customer who came in after us was tended to first. Then when we got our food, the boneless wings were way too salty (we got hot and lemon pepper) and the fried pickles as well were too salty. They get two stars because the traditional wings were good and so were the onion rings. I was able to choose 2 flavours for the 20 wings so I chose honey mustard and the hot buffalo wings. I went to pick it up myself and only had to wait for a few minutes for it to be ready. I asked if I could choose the beers but it was already packaged. The wings were freshly made and I enjoyed it. The hot wings weren't as hot as I thought it was going to be but I enjoyed it. The honey mustard wings were also nice and saucy. The 4 beers they packed weren't bad - ok selection overall. Can't complain for the price we paid. Will definitely order from here again!! Came here on a Sunday night to order for takeout; probably the worst time to come since their menu is so limited on Sundays. On Sundays you can't order 5 piece, it has to be 10 pieces or more. For the 10 pieces wings, you can't get half of this and half of that, it has to be 10 of the exact same wings. And they ran out of sweet chili sauce. Another outpost of this popular wing joint, located in a row of eateries on Third Avenue. Tuesday evening, was able to get a seat at the bar facing the TVs. Simple menu of various chicken types, various sauces, and sides. Decided on the 5-piece traditional wings with lemon pepper sauce ($9) to go along with one of their canned beers ($7ish). Before the wings, arrive, you get a plate of celery sticks and blue cheese (or ranch) dipping sauce to tide you over. Blue cheese in chunky, going fine with the cold celery sticks. Wings come out after several minutes - five well fried pieces drenched in that tangy sauce. Based on my last stopover here, the wings have definitely gotten smaller. While the meat was lacking, the sauce beings in that tang, though could have more of a pepper kick. Service is superb as always, but the chicken wings have taken a hit (possibly from the shortage?). The new restaurant distinguishes itself on down-home Buffalo decor. Whereas the EV location makes strong nods to 80s pop culture (check out the bathroom), D&J-MH makes sure no one mistakes where the owners hail from: Buffalo memorabilia abounds, pictures of Dan and John's journey from Buffalo teens to New York City men adorn the trophy case in the back.
