Came here because a friend recommended it and said it was really good, and I'm glad I listened because the food was sooo good. I ordered the spicy eggplant dish and really enjoyed it. It was super flavorful and came with a little bit of pork, so just keep in mind that it's not completely vegetarian. The portion was perfect for me and everything came out in a reasonable amount of time. The restaurant was very clean and well managed. Nothing super fancy, but it felt comfortable and nice. Service was also really kind and respectful. Since it was my first time, they explained how to eat the rice properly, which I appreciated. You scoop the rice out of the pot first, then pour the barley tea into the leftover scorched rice to make nurungji for the end. Such a warm and comforting way to finish the meal. Parking wise, there is metered street parking, but they also have an underground parking structure and they validate, which is really helpful in Koreatown. Overall, I had a really good experience from the service to the food. Definitely a place I would come back to with friends, family, or someone special. I honestly wouldn't mind driving back into LA just to eat here again.

I recently discovered this delicious Korean dish called sot bap, which is the Korean version of clay pot rice. I initially wanted to go try it in Orange County, but didn't have the time. So instead I went to Damsot in Koreatown to try their sot bap instead. I came here with my wife and my friend who was visiting from out of town. We were the first customers at Damsot so we were seated right away. The restaurant is super clean and the staff are super attentive. Damsot is small but the seats are generously spacious. Unlike Chinese clay pot rice, with Korean clay pot rice, savory soup is added to the crispy rice at the bottom of the clay pot to create a type of "crispy porridge." My wife got the mackerel sot bap. My friend got the steak sot bap. I personally got the eggplant sot bap. The eggplant was cooked perfectly and the dish also contained pork. The dish was quite flavorful, as was the crispy porridge that was made. The dish also came with kimchi, squid, pickles, and a salad. It was overall a very balanced meal with many delicious flavors. This was an amazing restaurant, I would come back again.

South Korean restaurant specializing in Pot Rice. Staff told me this location is the first US location. Located in Koreatown in Los Angeles. All of the prices were very reasonable. The Pot Rice entrees ranged from $19.99-$26.99 and all of them come with a small salad, a small cup of soup and a trio of kimchi/radish. All of the side items are very small but a perfect amount to accompany the pot rice without overpowering it. The best meal I had in L.A. during a work conference trip. I had the steak pot rice and it was perfect. The cubes of steak were tender and flavorful without being overly seasoned. You mix it with the rice and the raw egg and it becomes the standard for comfort food. At the end, you pour the barley tea into the scorched rice and it makes a soup that is supposed to be good for digestion, at least that is what our waiter told us. The Shrimp Tempura appetizer was very crispy but a bit too oily for my preference. I would skip that in the future. Our waiter was very friendly and gave us step by step instructions on how to eat the meal. They also have printed instructions at each table. This restaurant is located upstairs in a shopping plaza. I don't know if the plaza itself has a parking garage. We were lucky and found street parking but I can imagine parking is difficult given the busy area.

Beef loin pot rice

Cool, interactive presentation, and food was up to par. They specialize in pot rices, and presentation comes with steps where you scoop out the rice contents into the provided bowl and then pour barley tea into the the pot with leftover layer of rice stuck at the bottom to turn into a brothy rice for the end. The entire set up is very aesthetic and appetizing, but flavors weren't anything mind blowing. I ordered two pots, the pork belly and beef loin (belly), and both were good just slightly salty in my opinion. The meal feels more traditional and calm, compared to the overabundance of bustling kbbq and street food style restaurants surrounding the area. Service was patient and fast. It was my first time trying, so the staff was very informative with instructions on how to prepare the meal. The order also came out fast! Overall, it's a solid meal and super filling.

Tasty Korean pot rice in Ktown! We came shortly before noon on a weekday and were seated promptly as it wasn't too busy. Clean modern interior with a decent amount of tables. Service was friendly and quick and validated our parking without us even asking! There's parking in the structure below and is free for 2 hours with validation. The portions were big and came with banchan and miso soup. Steak pot rice (4.5/5): steak was super tender and juicy, not seasoned much so it came with a dipping sauce. They only have 15 portions for lunch and dinner each so I'm glad I was able to try it! Beef bean sprouts pot rice (4/5): kinda spicy for me, a generous of veggies that added a new crunch

Korean pot rice! I tried a similar spot while in Korea, so wanted to have it again. Came on a weekday around noon and it wasn't too busy, we were seated immediately. Service was great and attentive. We parked in the underground lot and they validated our parking ticket (up to 2 hours). Food was a good portion and came with banchan and miso soup. I would come back if I'm craving Korean pot rice again! Steak pot rice (4.5/5): they only have 15 portions each for lunch and dinner, so luckily we were able to snag one. Steak was super tender and melted in my mouth. Wasn't seasoned much so I used the sauce. I would've liked some form of veggie besides the green onions Beef bean sprouts pot rice (4/5): a little spicy for me lol. I liked the shiitake mushrooms and bean sprouts, they added a refreshing crunch

Really enjoyed this spot! Never had Korean pot rice before. The quality of ingredients, portion and value are perfect. While their signature is eggplant pot rice, make sure you get there early to get an order of the limited steak pot rice. So delish. Can't wait to come back.

After browsing through a few options in the area, Damsot was the pick for a weekend lunch. For parking, I parked a few blocks away with metered parking and walked over. It was definitely crowded as there was not a lot of free spots at the time. Upon arriving, it was moderately busy in the store with a few tables opened. Was able to get seated right away for party of two. There was two menus available at the time. One was standard one with plenty of options that focuses on pot rice. The other one was a summer menu that had soba as the focus for the base. The summer menu was interesting but the standard menu was what drove me to visit here. My girlfriend got the steak pot rice, while I got the eel pot rice. Once the food arrived at the table, the staff also gave us instructions on how to properly eat the pot rice. There was also a written instructions available at the table. Overall, both of the pot rices were amazing! While I enjoyed the eel, I would say the steak one tasted a lot better. When it came to the scorched rice soup at the end, I'll admit it wasn't my favorite considering I don't enjoy barley tea. However, I can definitely see the appeal and the scorched rice also gave a nice crunch throughout the meal. Great concept and amazing food! American Express is accepted here.

We stumbled upon this place on an online search, and it did not disappointment. My friends and I all got their steak pot rice, and it was comforting and flavorful. The steak was tender, and it paired well with the seasoned rice and toppings. One of my favorite parts was the crispy rice left at the bottom of the pot. Adding barley tea to it and eating it at the end was a nice touch. Service was great and attentive. I'd definitely come back!

If you can find another restaurant in Los Angeles, where you could have real abalone for dinner under $30, let me know and I will buy you a dinner! I've heard about Damsot from my foodie friends; they praised about the rice hot pots here. Nice high-quality white rice is steamed in a small pot with your choice of proteins (beef, pork, eel, eggplant, and abalone, just to name a few). When it is served, you mixed to rice, scoop it into the serving bowl, and you pour the tea into the rice pot to enjoy a rice soup later! The whole set includes an assortment of kimchi's, a small cup of miso soup, a tiny bowl of salad, and a cute little yogurt drink at the end. It's a lovely dining experience! I've been here a few times, and I was say the steak, eggplant, and abalone are the top three choices! These pots take a while to make so if you come at a popular time, you may need to wait a while. But service is very tentative and they let you know how to enjoy the meal if it's your first time. Price is super reasonable, most sets are under $30. Some of them are under $20. Very small place so I would recommend you come early if you don't wanna wait too long for dinner. And they do validate parking if you park under the building.

New concept to me for a clay pot rice. We ordered the steak one and the abalone one. Each dish it basically a procedure to get your meal together. While I appreciate how good is made, I feel like it's overpriced and makes it a gimmick. Like they charge you more to put your food together lol and it's just a clay pot of rice w your meat. I'm glad I tried it but I'm okay not going back. I wouldn't pay valet parking for this.

This was truly a unique culinary experience! Damsot is pot rice with a specific sequence of preparation at the table. Interacting with my food this was very exciting but all I could think of was, "After all this, I hope this dish delicious." Was it? It was!!!! We each had our own set - beef, spicy eggplant with pork, & steak. Flavors for each were distinct and delicious. I would definitely come back when we're in Korea Town LA! Service is friendly. Our server described what we had to do patiently though instructions were printed on a sign on the table. The dining hall is clean, uncluttered, and casual. Very unassuming that a simple place would bring such an extraordinary dining experience.

DAMSOT specializes in freshly made Korean pot rice, and I love that the meal is an entire experience from start to finish. We tried: Spicy Eggplant Pot Rice Steak Pot Rice Pork Belly Pot Rice Eel Pot Rice They were all super tasty, the spicy eggplant was definitely my favorite! The best part is making nurungji at the end and they give you a yogurt drink too.

The table shared a M bossam and two soups and it was plenty of food! I loved the clam kalguksu - the broth was lighter with a pepper-y kick and a generous portion of clams. The chicken kalguksu was more viscous and the soup was on the saltier side. Obviously the bossam was a table fav and we especially enjoyed the white kimchi! Overall, good food though service was a hit or miss. Definitely interested in trying the large $80 serving size for the noodle dishes lol! Street parking or valet

The lot is a little emptier now that Sun Nong Dan moved out, but I HATE that they've also started running effectively a parking valet scam as well (aka bring cash in your car and you must hand the keys over). Food is still banging though. Bossam was a little blander than I remember, but it's still perfectly tender, sliced uber thin, and great balance between lean and fatty cuts. Naengmyeon broth is peak with the depth from the beef bones and sweetness as well. Perfectly chewy noodles and the serving size is huge!

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.
