This place is literally the restaurant of my dreams. This meal had basically everything I love -- all my favorite seafoods. Dame is very tiny, but they make it work (in a cute and quaint way of course). We sat at the bar for 2 and got straight away to ordering. Our waitress was extremely helpful in suggesting how much food to order with the portions. Between two, I split the grilled oysters, the tuna tartare, and the fish and chips. Everything was literally a must order. I came for the fish and chips and then was absolutely floored by the other dishes. The toast was thick, soft, and chewy. The oysters were so melty and creamy -- unlike anything I had before with the hollandaise on top. And those fish and chips... best I've had! The batter is so crispy and light while maintaining the fish's soft texture. I will note, the fish and chips is a big portion. We had a lovely seafood meal at Dame. The restaurant is exclusive because it is tiny! We started with their crusty bread and butter while we waited for our appetizers. The grilled oysters with a green chartreuse hollandaise was so good. I really didn't know what chartreuse tastes like, but the sauce was flavorful and not overly rich. The squid and scallion skewers had really fresh, tender squid and lots of fresh elements with the herbs and scallions. We can't say no to steamed clams and the Dame version with bacon and apples/cider was good though very savory and a bit salty from the cured meat. I really appreciated that the entrees were generously portioned. The signature fish and chips was perfectly executed with crispy battered fish and their fat duck lard fried chips. Every table has a portion for good reason. The fish pie was o-kay. It was very filling and everything about it was good - crust, creamy sauce, lots of fish inside but we learned it's easier to eat a large portion of chicken pot pie than fish pie. Loved our meal here. We had the oysters to start, along with some bread and butter. Then the fish and chips -- no doubt, some of the best fried fish I've ever had. (I prefer the chips at Lords, Dame's sister restaurant, I think.) I also had the kedgeree, which admittedly was nothing like what my Granny made, so it was slightly disappointing in terms of nostalgia, but still really delicious. Then the Eton Mess for dessert, which is always a perfect summertime treat at the end of the meal. I also had a NA gin and tonic, which was stellar. The service was great -- very attentive, food came out fast, etc. The only drawbacks: the music was loud. It was good music, so that part was fine. But it was definitely a battle to hold a conversation. And the place is a little cramped. We had a small table for two and it was fine, but we did feel sort of wedged into the corner. Yum! Cozy, cute neighborhood joint in the village which offers elevated food and friendly service. The advice of 6-7 dishes per couple was pretty spot on. I absolutely loved the cured trout and the tuna tartare, my husband was partial to the morels, the squash, and the skate wing. Sauces were fabulous - definitely get the bread to sop up all that goodness. Great food for a summer dinner when you don't want to feel overloaded at the end of the night. Dame lives up to the hype! It's been on my list for forever and my partner and I finally got a day before reservation on Saturday! The place is small, intimate, and very quaint. All of the waiters were very attentive and friendly. We sat at the bar and loved that the kitchen was right in front of us. The chefs would hand us the food right as it was done! Food wise, everything was amazing. This is the kind of place where it doesn't matter what you order, everything is made to perfection. We ordered 4 oysters, whitefish croquettes, poached squash/crab, squid/shisito skewers, corn salad with lobster, fish and chips, and both desserts (olive oil and fig cake, elon mess). We were so impressed that the oysters still had a raw bursting flavor despite being grilled and so flavored. The fish and chips were definitely the best fish and chips we've ever had (and we did a big fish and chip tour in London), do not skip this!!!! We visited Dame on a Wednesday evening for a 6 pm reservation! I am pretty torn on what rating to give Dame; while the food is overall pretty good, there are a lot to be desired service wise. We got the scallop, tuna tartare, the oysters, and fish and chips. I highly recommend the oysters and the tuna tartare, they were our favorites! Dame is famous for their fish and chips but was honestly a let down; it was pretty good, but I don't think it was good enough to warrant the $29 price tag. I do not recommend the scallops. Service was good from the start but they ended up spilling the left over oil from the scallop dish on my partner's pants :/ We all make mistakes, but we were left with a rag to wipe the table all off ourselves. Our server also gave us mysterious liquid without any explanation post the accident -- turned out to be club soda to wipe the stain off, when we chased our server down to ask. It's worth noting though that they ended up comping the scallop dish on our final check. Maybe will be back for the oysters, but nothing else. read more

Amazing meal! Everything was so delicious, favorites were the grilled oysters, squid & scallion skewers, cucumber salad, raw scallops and fish & chips! I tried to get a table but ended up getting bar seats (not a good option) Vibe: Tiny restaurant with room for 10-15 parties total, which is why it's so hard to make a resy. The open kitchen is deep-frying food and has horrible ventilation. Agreed with the other reviewers that your clothes WILL smell when you leave. We had a hard time breathing well at the bar because the air was so smoky. This was unpleasant and made us want to leave sooner Food: it's ok.. Wow!! The food was amazing. This is one of the few places I've been recently that is very deserving of the hype. Every dish we had tasted amazing, I can't even pick a favorite. We started with the Raw Scallops with Uni and Citrus. The seafood was so fresh. Uni is such an unforgiving ingredient, and there was no fishiness at all. Scallops were paired with delicious sauce as well. The Grilled Oysters were superb!! The sauce was sweet and a nice compliment to the dish. Personally, I thought the Squid and Scallion skewers were just okay, but I can see why they're a favorite. The sauce on them is delicious as well. The Tuna Tartare was also great. Lots of anticipation for the Fish and Chips, and they were the best I've ever had. The chips and batter on the fish were light and fluffy, and the fish was so soft and tasty. The Toffee Pudding was good but soooo sweet. The creme fraiche was a necessity to cut the sweetness. The drinks we had were okay, nothing special. The service was really nice as well! It is a smalll restaurant, so it will be a squeeze. My one qualm is that we sat at the bar, which was right in front of the kitchen. It was hard enough securing a reservation at this small venue which seats less than 30 in doors, and I don't want any additional competition for my next visit. But alas, my higher nature has prevailed and I will share my experience at this tiny jewel of a restaurant. Don't let the casual decor fool you, the cuisine is definitely elevated. I sat at the bar with a prime view of the open kitchen and the staff constantly moving about like a team of whirling dervishes, energetically whipping up delectable dishes. I started with a grilled oyster with green chartreuse hollandaise. Even if you're not a fan of oysters, I highly recommend this appetizer. The oyster was perfectly grilled so the texture was not too slimy, not too rubbery, but just right. The chartreuse hollindaise provided a bit of citrus and herbaceous flavor, and just the right touch of sweetness. There was a real harmony of flavors that made this simple preparation quite the clever dish. The squid and scallion skewers were also very enjoyable. Pro tip: use the freshly toasted sourdough bread to sop up the olive oil and herb based concoction poured over skewers for an additional delightful treat. The smoked whitefish croquettes were a game changer! I had no idea whitefish could be so juicy and flavorful! The fried golden crust had a crunch more satisfying than a potato chip, making the croquettes more addictive than a can of Pringles. I would've gladly noshed on a bowl of those all night, but then I may not have had room for the best fish and chips I've ever had in my life. The fish was exquisitely battered so that the desired texture was present, but not overdone (I despise taking a bite of fried fish only to have a mouthful of fried batter). The gleaming fish inside was faultless, appropriately flaky and succulent with a mild flavor that was drawn out by the added malt vinegar. The accompanying chips were warm, crips on the outside and appropriately soft inside, each one, a bite of delight. You've heard of chef's kiss, but this actually made me want to kiss the fish! The skate cheek kabab was flavorful with marinated peppers and yogurt. The flavor profile was very reminiscent of Mediterranean cuisine. Heaven for fish-lovers! This small casual spot is awesome for some yummy comfort food, seafood style. Not a place to take your friends if they're not into fish (they'll basically be left with bread and dessert -- though still good). The whitefish croquettes were the perfect consistency and the sauce it came with was a touch spicier than I expected so use sparingly (but I'm not a very spicy eater). Ah Dame. What an interesting overall experience here. I come away from it 90% happy and 10% conflicted as you'll see below but overall, would say it's a great place to try and experience the funky vibes and mostly great flavors! I sat at a table to the side and got to check out the whole restaurant which is pretty inside with a killer 80's soundtrack vibing the whole night. Let's talk food and drinks (which was super affordable!): *sourdough: The sourdough was amazing and went so well with the next dish - great to dunk in sauces. *squid & scallion skewers: What an utterly amazing dish. Loved the sauce which was bright and tangy. And the squid was cooked beautifully. I wanted to have so much more of this. *caraflex cabbage with mussels & horseradish: This is the dish that I just couldn't eat. It might have been me and maybe something with the cabbage/horseradish combo but my stomach wasn't happy. I took a few bites and had to let it go to the side. *kedgeree rice with curried crab: Another strong dish. It had a slightly spicy kick and the crab was delicious. *our carajillo: Exactly what I needed. A not too sweet cold brew cocktail and a great way to help keep me going for a long night of more drinking. I've been to London a couple times and I have to be honest, I didn't really care for anything but the fish and chips in terms of food. However, I was so impressed by Dame and so happily surprised that it was as good as it was. We got the tuna tartare, grilled blowfish, caraflex cabbage, fish & chips, and kedgeree rice. Tuna tartare was great; the bottarga gave it a little mysterious funk that was nice. Blowfish was buttery and I loved the chili/tomato? sauce. My favorite small plate dish was the cabbage. The cabbage had this delicious mussel sabayon, herb sauce and horseradish. Definitely one of my favorite dishes this year, but I also just really love cabbage. The fish was so fluffy and crisp and the chips were also crunchy and addicting. Probably the best fish & chips I've ever had. The kedgeree was a rice dish with a curry flavored crab sauce topped with herbs. It was good, but I think I'd try something else on the menu next time. We also ordered a couple rounds of bread and butter to soak up the sauce from the blowfish and cabbage. I think if you'd like to do this, just stick to one order. I had much anticipated dinner at Dame, with a friend this evening. The wine recommendation was excellent. There was a vast selection of wine, but I will note there was not a lot of glass options. We had a bottle of chenin blanc and it was excellent. We ordered one oyster each because we were not sure about the flavor profile. It was excellent, but I couldn't eat too many of those. Tuna tartare: I loaded every element of this dish. The tuna was fresh and plentiful. The toast was thick and crispy, and the sauce was tasty. The perfect bite. My friend said it was too salty for her taste, but I had no complaints. Squid skewers: delicious! They were cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious Cabbage and mussels: this dish was super flavorful. The textures were perfect and the sauce was super flavorful. My only complaint? There were not enough mussels to justify the price. Poached trout: we almost skipped this one, but I'm so glad we didn't. The fish was perfectly cooked and the mashed potatoes were an excellent. The perfect bite. My friend thought it needed pepper, but I was fine with it as is. Fish and chips: this one really surprised me. The reviews on yelp was great. The fish was soggy in the middle, lacked flavor and the batter was burnt to a crisp. The fries were tasty, but something is off. Some were soggy. To add insult to injury, half of our fries were over fried fry butts. We shared this with our waiter and he offered us a new batch, but it was too late. Butter bean salad: it was ok, but not memorable. I'd skip this. It was underwhelming. Poached pear tart: this was light and delicious. The texture of the cream was excellent. It tasted very clean. On a Monday night, we were able to get in on our late-night reservations half an hour early (9:45pm). Was dinner here worth the late hour? For the most part, yes. - Grilled Oysters with Green Chartreuse Hollandaise: At $5 pop, I wouldn't get more than one per person. It was creamy and briny, but pretty rich. And trust me, you'll be eating a lot of cream sauces here. - Smoked Whitefish Croquettes: The smokiness was fantastic. This was the best of our small dishes. - Grilled Blowfish Tails: Delicious but bony. I adore tomatoes, so this dish was a big win on just that alone. However, there really wasn't enough meat on the tails to justify the price. - Fish & Chips: I see why this dish put Dame on the map. The fish batter is a uniquely light, airy kind that reminded me a lot of the batter used for crispy taro puffs in dim sum restaurants. In fact, I ended up talking to one of the staff about this, and while he had never had taro puffs, he agreed that the batter was very similar. - Grilled Mackerel with Confit Tomatoes & Crème Fraîche: The one disappointment of the night, as the mackerel came out cold, like it had obviously been left out and forgotten. The tomato and creme fraiche sauce was lovely (how are tomato and creme fraiche never lovely?), but mixed with the cold mackerel, it was a bit too much. They sort of made up for the mackerel by accidentally giving us a double order of the Sourdough Bread & Butter, which was toasted to perfection and the perfect vehicle to slurp up the rest of the blowfish sauce. The space inside is tiny, and even on a Monday night at 10pm, the music was turned on louder than Studio 54. That might be okay for some people, but I have the spirit of an 89yo grandma and was not having it. We were thankful to get a table outside, where the vibe was much calmer, while the service was just as attentive. In fact, our sweet server even poured me extra wine for reasons I'm still not entirely sure of. Bottom line: Dame is worth a one-time, late-night, destroy-your-intermittent-fasting dinner experience. Crab curry rice: Literally butter soaked rice with a generous amount of curried crab on top. Also a must order, although my companion was less inclined to it. The flavors are intense compared to the fish but perfectly balanced imo. Sticky toffee pudding: The bourbon caramel and the salted creme is the perfect accompaniment. The pudding is more traditional bread pudding texture as opposed to a cake, which wasn't my preference but delicious nonetheless. Went to Dame last week with a few friends. It is hard to get a reservation here, but you can make one 21 days in advance at noon. The restaurant itself is tiny, with very few tables in general and only a handful of tables for a party of 4 (something to keep in mind when trying to make a res). I tried the following dishes (yes, I tried a lot of things): Grilled Oysters with Greene Chartreuse Hollandaise (4.5/5): This was a really well-done dish. The oysters were fresh, and the sauce was rich and went really nicely with the oyster. Smoked Whitefish Croquettes (3/5): This was a very shareable dish. However, the fish was a little dry on the inside, and it came with a tomato-based dipping sauce that was very oily. Raw Scallops with Citrus (5/5): This dish was excellent. The scallops were fresh and light, and went really nicely with the citrus base. Tuna Tartare and Bottarga on Toast (4/5): Very tasty tartare. Like everything else, the tuna was fresh, and the toast was crispy. It was definitely shareable for three people. Skate, Squid Ink, and Glazed Endive (3.5/5): Decent dish. The skate was really tasty, with a great texture. I enjoyed the addition of the squid ink as well. The endive was on the mushy side, and was really oily. Halibut, Clams, & Mushrooms (4/5): The halibut was well-cooked, definitely not too tough. The mushrooms were savory and went really nicely with the fish and clams. The dish was definitely very oily though. Fish & Chips (3/5): This fish and chips was okay, and comes with very few chips. The batter was good, but I didn't find this dish to be amazing compared to others I've had, and I probably would not order it again. Vanilla Poisset with Passionfruit and Meringue (3/5): Pretty tasty, very sweet. I'm not the hugest fan of passionfruit, but I did not dislike this dish. Meyer Lemon Curd Tart (4/5): Very enjoyable tart. Incredibly lemony, so be warned. Very rich and sugary as well. Would recommend sharing this dish. I had always heard that Dame was one of the hardest reservations to get in NYC and somehow found one on ResX on Instagram ... and its grilled oysters currently has the title of the best single bite I've had at a restaurant in 2023. It was that memorable. When you get inside the restaurant, you can easily tell why it's so hard to get a reservation. Probably only seats like 5-8 parties - makes for a cozy, dark dinner with friends or your s/o. Service was very attentive even though there weren't that many waiters in total. I'd love to sit at the bar next time and see the chefs cook. What I ordered: - Grilled oysters: definitely order at least 2 per person. Loved the crunchy bits at the top and how buttery and fresh the oysters were. - Squid skewers: squid was tender loved the broth underneath - make sure to dip bread in it afterwards. - Smoked eel salad: not my fav on the menu. The beau has wanted to try Dame forever and we finally made a point of snagging an early reservation at the counter. We were struck by how small the establishment is hence the hard to get reservation. I think I prefer the counter actually. It gives you an immersive experience but that may not be for everyone. We enjoyed our drinks while perusing the menu and asking questions of our server who was of reasonably attentive seeing that we were sitting directly across from his station. He made a nice Vesper martini I must say. We ordered the grilled oysters (they are by the piece) which we thought were excellent. Next time I would order more. Then we had the white fish with trout roe on fried polenta. This was lackluster, bland, and fishy for the beau. We split the fish and chips of course and we really enjoyed it. Great batter and the fish was mild, flaky, and ample in portion. The chips seemed triple fried making them dark and crispy. Loved the tartar sauce and malt vinegar accompaniments. "this is my favorite spot in the city right now" - my girlfriend small place, great vibe, great staff, creative food well executed --what more could you ask for? Came here for a spontaneous date night. Found a 9:15pm reservation at the counter and they were super accommodating when the 6 train was 15 minutes behind. The crew behind the kitchen is as small as the restaurant and promotes a warm, cozy feel - especially when you're sitting at the counter. The menu is short and sweet, with an equal portion of heavy and light dishes. The chef clearly made a concerted attempt to lighten otherwise heavy offerings which is important because I'm sure literally everyone gets the fish and chips and it would be difficult for a party of two to enjoy another heavy dish. The dishes were creative and fresh, and the fish and chips was spectacular. Nothing special - just a really good fish and chips. Dinner came out to ~80pp with t/t and a drink. This is a good restaurant in the West Village, conveniently located two doors away from renowned cocktail bar Dante. Dame is a small restaurant, though. And the barstool seating in the front middle of the restaurant is bad. Those seats don't have backs. The tables at the edges or even the bar seating at the rear looked much better. I had an indoor reservation originally, but after sitting where they originally placed me, I discovered how uncomfortable it would be and changed my mind. I asked them to seat me outside, which they obliged. So overall, the ambiance and comfort wasn't that great. 3/5. For the food & drink, this was better. I was interested to try Dame because I enjoy fish and chips and had read that this place does a good job. I started with a properly made Pimm's Cup beverage. This provides the acidity to counter the fried fish and chips, which were quite good. Both the fish and chips are very thick and substantial. The brand of malt vinegar they have on the table is Sarson's. The dish was well-presented but expensive at $29. I also ordered the turbot with chanterelles and some sort of green citrus oil in a buttery sauce ($37). It was delicious. For dessert I had been looking forward to trying Eton Mess, but they don't have that anymore. Instead I had a posset (think creme brulee without the caramelized top) with passion fruit and a brittle meringue for texture. Quite flavorful. 4.5/5. Service was good. My server's name was Cheryl. I asked. She was very nice, was informative about the menu, and was on time. I never had to wait too long to flag her down for anything. I've noticed that many times servers at good restaurants don't introduce themselves by name. I wonder why that is. 4.5/5. Value: 3/5. It's fairly pricey. read more

Honestly one of the best seafood restaurants I've been to in awhile. Dame specializes in English seafood with all dishes shareable and delicious. My boyfriend and I managed to snag a reservation for a Friday night at peak dinner time and every seat in the house was full. The restaurant space is very cozy and small with an open kitchen design, it's definitely a tight squeeze no matter where you sit. We got a myriad of dishes: fish & chips, grilled oysters, tuna tartare, grilled cabbage & mussels, whitefish croquettes, and curried crab rice. We also had an order of bread and butter to start and the vanilla posset with poached rhubarb & meringue to finish. Everything was high quality, delicious, and created with care. You can't go wrong with pretty much anything on the menu but my favorites were the oysters, fish & chips, and grilled cabbage. Overall an amazing dining experience and definitely worth all the hype. read more

Was able to snag a prime reservation at this hard to get spot and I see why it's so hard to get. This was some of the best seafood I've had hands down and the service was amazing. We got our food quickly and it tasted incredible. We had the tuna tartare, the oysters, the fish and chips, and the mussel and dill salad. No complaints about anything from me. There even was a fly that landed in my mostly finished drink and the staff was so kind to literally give me a full new drink no questions asked. I hope to snag a reservation again soon if I'm lucky. read more

Was lucky enough to try out this new spot in tht West Village for my birthday. The overall experience was a good one with great service and decent food. Here's my breakdown. The bad: The cocktails were very weak almost to the point of watered down. The langoustine dish was not good, just skip it. The lobster tarts had good flavor but horrible tart. It tasted more like a hard inedible cookie than a tart. The good: The bread and butter was very delicious. The grilled oysters were as well. The calabrian chili went well with the croquettes. The seasoned tomatoes and anchovies were simple but we'll executed. The turbot was more than for two but was yummy and great for sharing. The great: The wines were good and imaginative. The fish and chips were by far the best. I would go back just for the fish and chips. read more

I've been told this place has the best fish and chips, so was very excited to try it out. Reservations were hard to come by and I had to book this place about 2 weeks out. The restaurant is very small so I would say only slim beautiful people should eat there. If you're big, you'll feel like sitting in the middle seat in the coach section of an airplane. While the waitstaff was generally accommodating, the waiter that served us seemed abit unfriendly, and he forgot to write down a dish. I would skip the bread and butter, it's nothing outstanding but is a cheap option to fill your belly for $5 (you might as well try something else since you can do this at home for less). The butterbean salad was too salty (the dressing should have been lighter and did not have to be so salty since the anchovy is very salty), so the bread did help with cutting the sodium. The best thing we tried was the squid and scallion skewers, it was prepared well, tender and tasty. The fish and chips was the largest dish, and it came out crispy and flaky. I did not enjoy it because the oil they used to fry this was not fresh, which gave the dish a dark color overall. I would not order it again, but if you're coming here the first time, I would say it is a must try as their signature dish. read more

I was able to snag a reservation at exactly noon on Resy. dame is super cozy and when we arrived, we were seated at the bar. The portions aren't large, so we ordered a bunch of things to share. Expect to pay at least $100 per person. Grilled oysters and whitefish croquettes to start were addictive and could have eaten more. The giganti beans topped with crab was so unique and flavorful. Never heard of smoked mussels so we had to get the cucumber salad with smoked mussels and it didn't disappoint. Of course we got the infamous fish and chips! Did it live up to the hype? It was the best fried fish I've ever had, with a great crispy coating. The fries were thick and had a good crunch as well. But for $29 it's hard to justify ordering it again for such a small portion. We ended with the vanilla posset with passion fruit and peppercorn meringue. It was a great way to end the meal. Not too sweet, lots of textures, and light. Dame's menu is super unique and worth checking out for a date night or special occasion. read more

Dame is a shockingly good British inspired seafood restaurant. The space is small and cozy but never felt cramped and the wait staff were lovely without ever feeling overbearing. We started the meal out with the grilled oysters with green chartreuse hollandaise sauce. The oysters themselves were a bit small but my god, the hollandaise sauce was absolutely fantastic. I'm quite thankful that chefs are starting to practice more what bartenders have been preaching for years, chartreuse just makes things tasty. I would have been happier with meatier oysters but the hollandaise was just so damn good that we were excited for the every dish that came out next. We were recommended the sourdough bread with butter to mop up sauce with and although I am a tad miffed at paying for bread, I am completely fine with it if it is as good as this. Super thick slices of flavorful, grilled sourdough bread with a smear of perfectly softened butter. Suffice to say, we happily soaked up every plate of sauce we could with the bread. The squid and scallion skewers tasted exactly as expected but was just executed very well which is something I felt with for a great deal of the dishes here. Scallions blackened, squid charred till just tender, all perfectly seasoned and topped with a green sauce that just wakes things up enough. The raw scallop, melon, and fig leaf oil was quite neat, scallops were just luscious little pillows of meat and the sauce and fig leaf oil gave everything a grassy, bittersweet note which I was quite a fan of. Tuna tartare and bottarga on toast was served on the same great bread. Tuna is really meaty and just tasted super fresh and bottarga is an always welcome source of salinity and savoriness. Grilled summer squash with crab and tarragon was okay, crab was light and crabby but I remain a non-believer in summer squash. At most other restaurants, I would be quite happy with it but here it was just kind of okay. In terms of mains, we just had the fish and chips and the skate wing with chanterelles and corn because we heard so much about the fish and chips (and it's a good bit cheaper than the other mains). The skate wing was some of the best fish I have ever heard, certainly the best fish I've had cooked in the French style. Chanterelles were as good as chanterelles should naturally be and they were cooked to a wonderfully bouncy but tender texture and the corn was as sweet as summer corn should be. The skate wing had an absolutely lovely meaty texture and only just cooked through, we were literally picking bones clean for every scrap of meat. The pan sauce was also delicious, savory but brightened with enough acidity to feel fresh. The fish and chips are what most people are coming here for and I can confirm that it is, by a country mile, the best fish and chips I've ever heard. It is still very recognizably fish and chips but with an extremely light and crisp batter and super soft, tender fish. The chips, are thick but also crispy on the outside, the ideal structure of a British style chip. The tartare was quite nicely balanced and they also bring out a bottle of ketchup and malt vinegar as well, the malt vinegar was quite a bit less acidic and more savory than the standard commodity malt you typically find. I think my only complaint would be that the bits of chip under the fish got a bit soggy. I can kind of see it presentation wise, it does feel a bit more like the standard vibe of a fish and chip to have everything scattered underneath the fish but i was craving more perfect chips. We also had the sticky toffee pudding which was basically the best sticky toffee I've ever had. Toffee sauce was dark and rich caramel but flowed quite satisfyingly and the pudding was also dark and rich. They topped it with was seems to be creme fraiche which I ended up liking over the more standard vanilla ice cream. The tartness of the cream just helped quite a ton with balancing everything out without taking away from how indulgent the final dish felt. At this point, it's pretty clear I quite like this restaurant. The most pedantic complaint I can muster is that they need to stir their cocktails for longer, they are a bit too warm on serving and the ice they have in the cocktails is not particularly pretty compared to the garnish, especially for the Pimms cup. The cocktails themselves tasted solid, basically up to spec as standard recipe but they feel priced a touch high considering they are so standard. Honestly the mocktail menu looked more interesting on further review. even if they aren't making their own shrub, it would have been neat to see them use it for one of their cocktails. If this was a cocktail bar, these complains would carry a fair bit more weight but as is, I'm basically just grasping at straws finding a thing to dislike. If you enjoy seafood at all, you absolutely must pay a visit to Dame. read more

Seldom do great seafood restaurants like this come into your life. Fish and chips. Fish and chips. Oh, right - fish and chips. When I read they had fish and chips, that is what caught my eye. I LOVE fish and chips. So began a week or so of trying to book this reservation unsuccessfully. Finally we got a seat and we were set. It was outdoors on one of the hottest days but no way I was going to not try this place. I am so glad I painfully sweat through the meal while sitting in my suit, because it was worth every second and every droplet. First, smoked whitefish croquettes with a calabrian chili sauce. It was like "schmear" and arancini had a baby. Salty, smoky, just enough punchy vinegary notes from the chili. What a way to start. Squid and shisito pepper skewers. An unlikely item to come across but oh was this good. Perfectly tender tentacles, that luscious peppery sauce. Tuna tartare and bottarga toast. This has been done so many times but rarely is it this good. Nice chewiness in the cubed tuna, a touch of creaminess (creme fraiche - I think?) and lots of bottarga. The scallions added an extra burst of flavor. It was tartare, crunchy, crusty and I almost ordered another one. It may actually be one of the best versions of any tuna tartare I've had. Grilled oysters with green chartreuse hollandaise. Do I really need to explain this? It tastes like it sounds - goddamned delicious. Just enough char and that sauce is creamy and dreamy. Lobster tart. It was good but I don't think I appreciate this dish personally. It's a very English-style dish and there was nothing wrong about it, I just don't love savory pastries I think. If that's your jam though, I think you'll enjoy this. Fish and chips. Oh my lord, so delicate and moist. That batter just caves in when your teeth sink into it. The tartar sauce is the perfect way to envelope each and every bite of that flaky fish. If you're not keen on fish and chips, give it a try. If you like fried fish and fries, this is probably the best iteration of it. I have been thinking about this particular dish since we ate there. My only negative feedback is that I've experienced Dame and now I am dying to go again - especially after writing this review. read more

One of the more overrated places I have been to in nyc. They seem like they are trying too hard to be unique. We tried the skate cheek kebab which was ok but kind of bland. The fish and chips weren't bad. The chips were some of the best around. The fish part needed to be crispier. For appetizers we tried the squash app with crab and tarragon... it wasn't good. The mussels with cucumber was bad and had a weird texture. The olive cake was ok at best. I will say everything was beautifully plated. Not a big fan of the food but other people there seemed to like it. Might not be for me. read more
