Iconic Music Venue & Nostalgic Dive Bar…read more If you are in the mood for a cold beer and great music, then take a scenic drive out to Devil's Backbone Tavern! It first operated as a stagecoach outpost & blacksmith shop. And it famously built the Tavern in Comal County during prohibition. It wasn't until the 1950s that a dance hall pavilion was added to the property. And while the tavern wasn't made famous through country songs, it remained a popular watering hole for the locals. Today, the new owners have helped revitalize the dance hall and brought about a renewed appreciation for this musical outpost. Some of the greatest singer/songwriters come to play at Devil's so be sure to check out the list of upcoming shows. So put Todd Snider in your playlist, check your GPS, and take a drive out to Fischer for a cold beer and great music! On a more personal note, I would love to see more listening room / storytelling type shows and album signing opportunities where artists can take advantage of the great acoustics and intimate space. We asked about the name, and Andalusia was actually the name of the sheep farm they used to occupy the property. They just decided to keep the name! Their solution: FREE BEER ALL WEEKEND. Now, it's impossible to give anything less than 5 stars when it's free! We indulged in 4 Pints & ordered food/tipped back heavily enough to compensate for the freebies. It's simply a beautiful workaround to stay open & stay relevant- plus, staff are still getting paid. We did both the smashburger and chicken sliders - 3 of each & all different styles ($15/ set) - @ $5/ ea, that was kind of high but more variety. The single sammie is definitely a better value. They were tasty. Again, with free beer - hey, still a great deal! The grounds alone are worth the visit. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. They shared the background story for this veteran owned business & it was all just very inviting. The beers we had were all good. My favorite was the dark stout, which was a very solid stout.

They have my absolute favorite bock and my favorite hefeweizen ever! I also had a sample of their Helles, and it was just as awesome. I don't know what they're doing with their beer, but they need to keep doing it! They have plenty of outdoor space with lots of shade, a playground for the kids, and food trucks on site. There's also a small indoor area if you need some air conditioning, but it isn't very big. One warning: the beer lines can get really long on weekends.

When we were poking around looking for breweries in the area on Yelp we came across The Shady Llama! This place doesn't make their own beer but they have lots of guest taps for breweries in the surrounding area. It's a good variety of beers to choose from and it looks like there is at least one food truck available sometimes in case you get hungry. The main draw for why we came here was to see the llamas and indeed we dis see some. One of them gave us some attitude and then sauntered off down a hill, taking it's less moody companion with it. They were funny and with the attitude I got and the name of the place I posted the Eminem song "My Name Is" where the lyrics "Slim Shady" get mentioned on Instagram because I thought it was all quite fitting. In addition to seeing the llamas we saw a great view of Hill Country. There was a lot of seating when we were here and could pick pretty much anywhere we wanted to sit. But I'm sure the place can get busy... the location and those llamas are reason enough. Cold beer, moody llamas and beautiful Hill Country... definitely worth the stop!

Google would make me shorten my review because i could go on for hours about how amazing this place…read moreis. I am obsessed now. We were only driving through and decided to stop and get random hotel. I had low expectations being in blanco and the star level of the hotel. HOWEVER, it's freaking amazing. I am very picky with my hotels, i stay in them 4 nights a week for 26 years,l every week. I usually stay in 4-5 star giant chain hotels like Hilton etc. I've had some bad stays with low star level hotels and fear the pictures and reviews are old or just wrong. I didn't even read the reviews for this place, i decided not to even look at pics, since i was driving through anyway i would just stop and see for myself. Well i didn't even make it past the front desk before i decided it was amazing and i was staying here for sure. The front desk gorgeous bombshell was super nice and took care of us super fast. We were in our room in minutes. I walk in the room and it is immaculate. Cutest rooms I've stayed in. The country rustic vibe. The barn door for a bathroom door. The giant couch. The living room and bedroom separate. Best part is the bed, it's SUPER COMFY, SOFT, really high off the ground which is good for me as a 6'1" man. The rooms were a little warm when we came in but after turning on both ac units it's nice and cool in here now. Shower and bathroom is gorgeous, water pressure was awesome, that's a big plus. I also walked around the building taking pics of everything for my reviews and loved the place even more. The deer heads all over the walls. I love taxidermy as my home is full of them also. My favorite part was the carpet that looks like Axis deer all down the halls. The courtyard in middle of the building is perfect for letting your dogs off the leash to run around and play on the fake turf grass. From the outside of the building you would never thing this place is as amazing as it is. I'm super impressed and i dont impress easily. Great job to the owner/owners who did this place right. This place should be marked as a 3.5-4 star at the least.

Their kitchen is open until 10 pm, so we were all able to eat dinner (which came out fairly quickly and was pretty good!). There are multiple TVs, so we were able to watch the playoff football game we wanted to see. There is a stage for live music, and that night it was karaoke night, which was pretty fun. There is a big fire pit out back with chairs around it for the cooler nights. Lots of regulars and a few sweet bar dogs running around inside. Seems like a spot that is well loved and visited over and over again. We would definitely come back the next time we're in town!
