I'm not from Monterey Park, so I had to make the trek out to the SCV because I've heard so much about "the Japanese $1.50 store." I relied on trusty Yelp for pictures and of course, the address. I was a bit annoyed that not one person mentioned it was in the mall with the AMC. That would have been so helpful for me to find the place. Parking - this shopping center isn't so busy, but the parking lot tends to get full. Location - The store is located next to Johnny Rockets. Inside - it's cute and very pink. It's kitschy Japanese trinkets for about $1.50. Other items cost more and are labeled so. The aisles are very small. Thank goodness they don't have carts or you would feel like a rat stuck in a maze. I heard that Daiso has those Japanese Kit Kats. I tracked down an employee and kindly asked if they had any. Her response, "if you don't see it, we don't have it." and she continues to stock items without another word. Eh. One positive is that the clientele was very polite. I love Daiso!! And apparently everyone and their mother does too! It can get really packed in there. The store is big with lots of items, however, the aisles are narrow and it's hard turning around when someone else is next to you. But I still love it anyway! This location is the only one I've visited and I really like it. They have so many cute everythings! From organization stuff to kitchen stuff to snacks to cosmetics to everyday items and everything is $1.50! Though there are exceptions. This is not like a DollarTree or 99c Store, they have better quality and cuter items, mostly Japanese inspired. I dont think I've seen most of the items in other stores and for sure not in the DollarTrees or 99c only stores. I could spend an hour in there easily. Its bright and colorful, great ambiance. Calling all Bergin shoppers! Put away your coupons because everything is VERY CHEAP here. $1.50 unless it's marked which means it's more than $1.50. Because it's $1.50 doesn't mean you need it. =) But you can find a lot of great things here. I bought plain white dishes for $1.50 EACH 4 large plates, 4 small bowls, two large bowls, few cups and a few things here and there. SWEET! It's going to be packed and be very careful with your basket when you move to for people to get around. Yesterday night, I came home from work exhausted. I logged onto Yelp and saw Chris Y.'s review of Daiso. After looking at some pictures, I got my keys, purse, and phone and headed straight for the door. I had to check out this place. $1.50 everything unless otherwise stated. Located inside the Atlantic Time Square, I luckily came when there was no line. Nonethless, with the small aisle, it gets pretty hard to walk through this place. There is so many stuff. Household stuff, kitchen stuff, useless stuff, cellphone stuff, cable stuff. I wish the snack section was a lot bigger though. For $1.50, a lot of these items are very cheap! They have screen protector for your phones too! Perfect for when you're not willing to wait for your online order. Quality on the items of course isn't the best. I am so in love with this store. I couldn't be happier that Daiso opened a store in Monterey Park because I wouldn't want to drive all the way to Gardena. The new Daiso is located inside the Atlantic Time Square. There's free parking underground. Almost everything in the store is $1.50. It's like the Japanese equivalent to the American dollar store or I guess the 100 yen store with the exchange rates the way they are. I just bought a USB mouse, a headphone, laundry mesh, dog collar, and a ton of tupperware for $1.50 each! They have so many items in the store. It's a great place to get kitchen, cleaning, and beauty products. I saw they have false lashes for $1.50 a pair. I usually pay $4-$6 for the same thing elsewhere. I will definitely be coming back for that. You have to pay cash for purchases less than $10. They don't take AMEX or Discover and all purchases are final. read more

Like most of the other reviews have already stated: Daiso is the Japanese version of our 99 cent stores. For the most part everything in the store is $1.50 and the things that aren't, are clearly labeled so there isn't any confusion. Daiso has a strict all sales final - no exchange - no refund policy. But even if you happen to not like an item you picked up, just remember it was [probably] $1.50, so you can't be that upset. The only reason I gave this Daiso 4 stars as oppose to 5 is because of how small the location is and how cramped it is in here. This is the worst Daiso I've ever been to, omg. COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. Because Daiso has a lot of products and the space isn't big, they decided to make the aisles as small as possible to fit everything in. The aisles are only big enough for one person to walk through comfortably. Because it gets so crowded easily, it gets pretty hot and stuffy in here. It doesn't help that I'm a smidgen claustrophobic and I value personal space greatly. I hate, hate, hate strangers rubbing up against me when passing by, so unless you love that, be forewarned and expect that at every turn. I came here for color card stock and their supply is very limited compared to other Daisos. However, I did manage to get my oil blotting facial sheets here, which sells out pretty quickly in other locations, so 1 star for that. Waiting in line is horrid as there is only one counter and 2-3 cashiers working. Where do you suppose customers line up when there already isn't enough space to walk through?! You can imagine. Because of the uncomfortable environment and overall negative shopping experience, I never want to come back here unless it's completely empty so I can shop calmly and in peace. P.S. DAISO is a very popular in Northern California but I noticed it's slowly integrating into the Los Angeles/SoCal scene... Here are my thoughts: I LOVE DAISO !! BUT BEWARE! Easy to go crazy in the store and buy almost ever cute thing you see! Everything will add up in the end because you just dump all the stuff in your cart/basket thinking "oh it's so cheap" but in the end.. it will add up to more than you thought! I like to just grab stuff as I pass by them in the aisles and am remotely interested in. And then at the very end I control myself and just "filter" out what I don't REALLY need. (like that cute toilet seat cover, those cute cupcake holders, frog sponges, etc) They have great gifts, stationary, storage, and overall home living items like bathroom accessories and kitchen items. They accept Credit and Debit card with a minimum purchase of $5. Also.. I feel a bit bad for the other Japanese/Asian stationary/storage/home decor stores in Atlantic Plaza because they got competition now!! GO TO DAIS THOUGH!! e.g. AIr freshener for $10 or one for$1.50? Yeah I know the quality is probably different but still! Also if you love makeup like I do, go here to check out the false eyelashes! I also love the cotton pads here. read more

I like the size of this Daiso, easily the largest one I've been to. I wouldn't describe the staff as particularly friendly, but they're pretty hands-off so you can browse in peace. My only recommendation is checking the labels of their products carefully, as some of them contain bad substances like lead. I bought an adorable keychain the other week and only noticed when I got home that it contained lead , so be careful. Buying name brand snacks and things like stationary is good, I just wouldn't buy things like cooking tools or makeup (anything that will go on or in your body that isn't name brand). That said, great place to buy Golden Curry in bulk, and they have some adorable trinkets. read more

Ok I will be honest. When I first saw and went in Daiso I was anything but impressed. Then I started to cruise around the joint and realized what really was happening here. I left with a bag full of goods for $10 and I couldnt have been more happy and wanting to return soon again. This place is conveniently located in Atlantic Square just off of the 10 freeway! It couldnt be more convenient unless it was just off of another freeway haha Pro Tip: Everything in the store is $1.50 unless otherwise marked. The most expensive things I saw were listed at $4.00! Parking is a piece of cake here as underneath Atlantic Square is a multi story parking garage. They have escalators and elevators within easy access to the entire subterranean structure. Its the japanese version of the 99 cents store, but instead, most everything is $1.50. I was so excited when I first learned that Daiso was opening in Monterey Park. I used to go to the Irvine and Torrance stores, but now this one is so much closer. They have everything from kitchen items to stationery, to household items, and even snacks! Most stuff are $1.50. Items that cost more are labeled accordingly. I went here on their grand opening day and there was a long line waiting to go in. We were able to go inside and grab all the goodies that we needed. When we exited, we were given a free goodie bag with lots of snacks (pocky, koalas, hello pandas, shrimp chips) in celebration of their grand opening. The cashiers are quick, efficient, and friendly. Definitely need to check this place out next time you are in Monterey Park. Parking: Huge underground parking lot for the entire Atlantic Times Square plaza. read more

ENVIRONMENT: This place is filled from floor to ceiling with little knickknacks ranging from snacks, stationary, clothing, kitchen supplies, gardening supplies, and the list goes on. Literally! The aisles are very narrow so you might feel claustrophobic and will definitely bump into someone when you are trying to get in and out. SERVICE: The service here varies. One employee took her time to ask me if I needed help finding anything and if I had any questions. She seemed like the only person that actually cared about her job and the customers there. As for the other employees, they would bump into me (several times, by the way...) and will just glare or ignore you without apologizing. YAY! I'm so glad they opened a Daiso in the 626. It's a bit smaller than the other stores I've been to (mostly bay area), but it still has all the same elements. I'm really liking the little knick knacks you can get for your home, especially the cups which are SO CUTE. It's interesting how half the things you never knew you needed, but still fall victim to how useful it might be. Placing this store in the heart of the 626 is the best thing Daiso has done (except pick a large store). Cheap and cute? Watch every Chinese mom in the area fall in love/victim to this store. read more

God, is this really my third Daiso review? I fear I'm going to end up reviewing every Daiso on Earth...although is this really a rational fear? Maybe if I review every one, they'll give me a "Lifetime Daiso Customer Discount" (cue the fanfare). Or at least that's how it goes in my dreams... But you know the deal by now. $1.50 for pretty much everything. Wonderbar! TIP: Always do an inventory check when you're about to pay, because you'll realize you almost ended up buying a lot of things you don't even remember putting in your cart. Daiso can do that to you. This store is a little small, much smaller than the Irvine and Japantown/SF store. It's tucked into a nifty little shopping center/apartment complex. I would like to live here in the future, but I heard the rent is about the same price as a 4 bedroom house in Sacramento...so I may reconsider. Japanese dollar stores are the best! Yes, a lot of the stuff is unnecessary crap, but it's cute crap! Where else am I going to get a jump rope, pineapple flavored marshmallows, bendy drinking straws, a fish shaped dish sponge and a stainless steel bowl all for $1.50 each?! Cmon seriously & realistically nothing in Japan would cost 1.50, but I want to believe this store is legit. It is seriously A LOT of stuff crammed in a big store. The aisles can barely fit 2 people! I would say it would not be handicap accessible. I'm just saying. They have a variety of Kitchen to School Supplies to Pet Supplies to Gardening to Food to Piggy Banks to Beauty to Laundry to I have no idea but it seems like they have a great amount of stuff for price. I mean it is very nice to not pay a grip for stuff that you dont really need, but most of it is those kind of things. I have a love-hate relationship with Daiso. I love that everything here is so cute and cheap! I hate that I can't come in here without buying stuff I didn't know that I needed! We have a few rules when it comes to Daiso: 1) Spending limit. We pre-determine how much we are allowed to spend before coming in. 2) Shopping list. In addition to the spending limit, we also make a list of things we are allowed to bring home, so we don't start throwing random things into our basket 3) No unsupervised visits. Unless we have specific permission to go in and buy 1-2 items on a strict list, neither of us are allowed to roam around and shop here by ourselves... else we return with a trunk full of trinkets that are unreturnable! Despite our three rules, we still manage to get in trouble. Today, we had at $15 spending limit, but we left with $30 worth of stuff (for three households, but still). I think what happened was that the specific items we came for (on our shopping list) were not in stock, so we started going crazy with things that caught our eyes. This location is extremely tight (the aisles are very close together and there are always a ton of people). But because this location is busy, their inventory changes quickly, so it's different every time you come... danger, danger! You have been warned! read more

I'm not so naive as to think that cockroaches don't secretly hide out in stores all over LA county, but seeing several huge roaches in the dishware section here was enough to make me think twice about coming back. Just because everything is $1.50 doesn't mean my standards for cleanliness suddenly cave for my attraction to cheap cleaning mittens in the shape of porcupines (which are ridiculously cute AND functional). The employee didn't seem phased by the roach at all, which makes me think they're not about to tackle the problem anytime soon. Oh, Daiso...Thank you for finally finding your way to my hometown. Here are three important things you should know about Daiso: 1. You WILL spend more than you plan to and leave with things you don't need. Don't feel too guilty about it... you'll find use for your item one way or another and if not, it was cheap. $1.50 cheap. And browsing Daiso is an activity in itself! 2. DAISO RICE CRACKERS. I haven't seen these in a long time nor are my internet searches yielding any results, but I am hoping/wishing/praying that this location will carry their delicious freaking rice crackers. Daiso in MPK?! I didn't even know there were other Daiso within driving range of my house! I was a huge fan of this store when I first went to their location in Richmond Canada. I went crazy over their $1.50 baking supplies! Compared to the Richmond Daiso, the MPK Daiso didn't have too much of anything because it was tiny! (The baking section alone in Richmond was the size of this whole Daiso.) The aisles are also way too narrow here. With the flock of people coming in, it was impossible to slow down and enjoy the shopping experience without having to constantly say "excuse me" or "sorry." Besides the cramped space, Daiso is a fun store with a lot of little things that are both cute and sometimes practical. I will drop by again when the crowd dies down. read more

I love DAISO! I love DAISO! I love DAISO! I llllooooooove Daiso! Discount shopping has never been fun until Daiso came to the Los Angeles area to plant its seed. Now its popularity is growing and I see why. In fact, you think you have everything that you needed until you step inside Daiso only to discover that there are a lot more knick-knacks that you didn't know that you needed. Daiso is the Japanese equivalent to the 99 Cents Only Stores and Dollartree. The difference, however, between Daiso and it's competitors are all the goods that come from Japan. So expect to find really cheeky cute items, very practical items, and items that are gosh darn strange and unusual. The best part of shopping at Daiso is finding that about 95% of all items are $1.50 with a handful of items that are around $3.00- 18.00. My favorite sections of at Daiso are the make-up/beauty section and the kitchen gadget section. I was thrilled to find eyeliner and mascara for $1.50 each, because the same products at Marukai usually costs me about $7.00 to $12.00 each. I also like finding Japanese brand creams and lotions at $1.50 and a few higher end brands at $3.00, which is ridiculously cheaper than make-up/beauty aisles at Marukai, Mitsuwa, and Nijya. I enjoy bargain hunting at the Kitchen gadget section at Daiso. The silicone kitchen mittens are a serious bargain at $1.50 each. They're equivalent to the ones that you see at department stores and work well too. I bought a few plastic dumpling molds and sushi molds too and they are the same brand name that I purchased at Tokyo Japanese Outlet except I got them at 50% at Daiso. The nice little yet strange kitchen gadget that I also found at Daiso is a skimmer, which looks like a cross between a spider and a metal sieve, was only $1.50. I love this gadget, because I found the same one at the 99 Ranch Market for about $4.00. I especially love the piggy and froggy cutting boards too. The cool and unusual items worth grabbing are the acrylic paints, paint brushes, cosplay wigs ($9 -18 each), and holiday decor. I also like the many selections and sizes of the plastic goods for your desk or kitchen too. The various colors are cool and yes, they cost around $1.50 each. So I can go on and on about how much I love Daiso, but I'm stopping now so I don't ruin your shopping anticipation. What a great store! Who doesn't love a good deal? Items are low in quality but super cute. It is a Japanese discount store. Really useful for when you are in the midst of moving, and you buy a bunch of household items for temporary use. Toss them without much thought when you are ready to commit to a nicer set. This one star rating is for the customer service--or lack thereof--at this particular Daiso. We were having trouble looking for a particular item, and we asked one of the stockers, Ivy, where we could find it. She told us that the item was "over there" and waved her hand toward aisle. Because of her vague answer, we asked, "where?" to confirm the location. She pointed behind us and irritably asked us if our eyes were working. We were shocked by the rude reply and basically said, "WTF, why are you giving us attitude?" Sounds like *somebody* hasn't gotten laid in a while. I used to live in Tokyo, and I used to go to the "99 Yen Store" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100-yen_shop I laughed pretty hard the first time i saw this shop, not really believing it was for real. But yes, this is the Japanese equivalent of the 99 cent store. Daiso is the same owners as the 99 Yen Shop. So basically what you are seeing is a Japanese version of the 99 cent store. But it's so much cooler. They have all this crazy stuff. Knives and pots and chalkboards and goofy looking plastic fashion accessories. A walk through Daiso will provide at least a half hour of mirth and you might even find something you like. Nothing here is expensive. Most things start at about a dollar and a half, but I don't think I saw anything over about ten dollars. If you haven't been to Daiso, you owe it to yourself to check it out. read more

If you are claustrophobic, I would recommend staying away from this particular Daiso location as the aisles are extremely narrow and the crowds can be cumbersome. Although I am a fan of the Daiso chain, this one is much smaller than the Irvine location. Most of the "dollar store" like merchandise are $1.50. All sales are final. There is no organized line for the cash registers. So, when you line up, you are essentially blocking everyone else walking through the store. BTW, that's a fire hazard and this store could get cited as such if a fire marshal decided to wander into this store. This particular location definitely needs better crowd control. The Japanese discount store is finally in the San Gabriel Valley! No more driving to Torrance for some cheap plastic goods. I love seeing the Daiso in this area. Albeit it is one of the smaller shops in the chain, you can still find a lot of good items here. I picked up a lot of school supplies here. For $1.50 for most items, you cannot really go wrong here. I understand when people say that the aisles are small. Yes, they are. If you are fat, don't even bother trying to maneuver through here without destroying one of the aisles. A few days before the grand opening of this place, I was at the Daiso at Torrance thinking to myself how awesome it would be if there is a Diaso closer to my home. Well now, there is one but I can't say it is the same though. Compare to the other Daiso, this one in Monterey Park is a bit smaller and crowded. The aisles are also very narrow and could hardly fit for two people. To get from one side to the other, it requires constantly saying "excuse me" and many intimate moment with the other customers. There seems to be less items sold here as well. The banana protector that I want to buy is not sold in this store Overall, I'm still a huge fan of Daiso but just wish they could have set up a larger location instead to make for a better shopping experience. read more
