One of the nicest franchisees we've ever met, and we've been to DQ's from coast to coast. We stopped in as there was an accident on the road next to it, and my wife got out to help with medical care on the scene. The man was quick to run cold waters out to the first responders and EMTs. We stayed a while to talk until the accident was cleared up and ambulances left. All in all, this franchisee represents the DQ brand well, and the ice cream was great, too! read more

Great spot when they open!!! Not your average Dairy Queen! This is an island vibe Dairy Queen!!!!

This place sells ice cream and hotdogs. No burgers. The staff that helped my family and I were good at their job and served us in a timely manner. In terms of ambiance, it's a Dairy Queen that you either walk up to the service window or use the drive through. My only complaint is that I wish they sold burgers here. Otherwise, yes I do recommend this DQ. read more

Went to this location and the ice cream was made fast and tasted great. It was only one guy by himself taking orders and making them.

I've been to this DQ several times during my trips down to OBX and I've always had a pleasing experience. The soft serve is good and I've tried a few other ice creams and blizzards as well and enjoyed them all. The staff is very courteous and one time I met the owner (I believe his name was Brad or Brett) and he really took great care of me. Definitely ask for him if he's around, he was very cool and has lived down there since he was born so he has plenty of local knowledge and knows everyone on the island. I love the Outer Banks but there is a shortage of good food. I've tried several ice cream shops and the DQ is definitely the best local experience you can get down there for ice cream, and one of the healthiest too (most of their ice cream is just milk and sugar without any added chemicals or corn syrup or other things that are bad for you). THE WORST DQ EVER. Visited the OBX the week before Labor Day (August 27, 2016). Stopped in at about 8:30pm with another adult and 3 kids. They were not busy. Walked up to the window and the individual working the window was visibly bothered by our presence. He then proceeded to mumble his way through a greeting, so much so, that one of the youths had to ask him to repeat himself 3 times. the employee made no attempt to speak clearly or coherently. He was trying to say "cup or cone", but it came out "cuppercon". On to the frozen "treat". DQ deserts are supposed to fill the cup (or cone) and then extend above the container with a domed shape with that curly q thing at the top, right? All of these cups were just filled a little under the rim of the cup. Since when did DQ start charging full price for half portions? read more

For the third time in recent weeks, I loaded up the family to go to this Dairy Queen that has refused to serve customers before closing time. Tonight we arrived at 8:36 with the closing time clearly labeled as 9:00 on the large marquee by the road and with an Open sign in the window. The drive through was blocked with two stacked milk crates and at the walk-up window, the employee refused to turn and look at me, even when I called out "Excuse me, are you open"? Got our order wrong. The only customers were 4 people in our group and a group of 2 in front of us. Person taking the order asked us what we wanted, repeated it, and it was still wrong. My son wanted a chocolate malt and got a regular chocolate milkshake. They didn't understand putting peanuts on a Carmel sundae. My mocha moo latte had chocolate chunks in it so big they clogged up the straw. My daughter's Carmel moo latte tasted just like mine. But had Carmel on top instead of fudge sauce. yum. better then village conery. love the soft serve ice cream. we only get dairy queen when we go to obx... can't help it! highly recommend going through the drive thru though rather then standing at the window -- you'll save a lot of time!! i think the girl who took our order was stoned both times we went there, but she was sweet and got our order right, so whatever. :) read more

Staying just a block away and craved a sweet treat late evening. Walked over and it was about 10 minutes after they were closed and they were cleaning up. This place is your typical DQ. Since there's not much around this place, so it's hoppin busy at night. There is a drive through but the line standing or driving is about the same wait. They seemed to be well staffed to handle the crowds. Good DQ ice cream, sadly disgusting rest rooms. Come on! This is located in a family area, why not go the extra mile and have a clean rest room. It was pretty good, it's my first time in outer banks, so if it's yours too, then do know there's only hot dogs and Ice cream here. Not like back home where it's an entire restaurant.
