I look forward to a few bowls each year while on vacation in Rodanthe. The Hatteras bowl is awesome with blueberries. Another favorite is the Backdoor bowl. Like most things on the island, they don't open until 9 and the parking lot is full by 8:45. I highly recommend ordering ahead online or you will be waiting 30 minutes if you plan on ordering there. Also, it is mosquito central so you will not only leave with a delicious açaí bowl but a thousand bug bites. The parking lot can be tough to navigate if full, I typically park in the gravel lot just south of Hatteras Bowls and walk to the counter to pick up my to-go order. read more

WOW!! this little gem is amazing! we rented a house about 2 minutes down the street and kept passing by this place. Parking lot was always full so that told us we needed to try this place before we left OBX. WE came here on our last day and we should have ordered every day! The place is super cute and tucked back off the road, with more parking than I would expect given how small the area is--but it does get tight and packed at times. It's a great place for bikers to stop off. The smoothies and bowls are delicious. I'm not sure you can go wrong with an order of either. I had the Purple Smoothie and the Green Goddess, both delicious. Convinced that pineapple juice is the secret to masking all the swampiness/bitterness of spirulina/greens. I also had a bowl and the acai base is so good. I loved the lavender topping. My sister and I went to hatteras bowls while we were staying in Waves. The menu selections are really good. The pricing is a tad steep, but to be expected on an island. I did want to add all natural PB to my bowl, which was $1 extra(kinda crazy). The granola on top was delicious. We also had the avocado toast to share and it was really simple, yet delicious. They served it on a paper plate which we had to take in the car with us. The bowls were much more travel friendly with the lids provided. The workers were very friendly, but not masked. They did recommended 1 person/ family at a time to the ordering window. They have outdoor seating available. They do have parking, but it was congested in the morning. So delicious! I tried the Double Overhead smoothie without the coffee, hit the spot. I also tried a sip of the purple smoothie- the hint of lavender was not over powering and added the uniqueness to the drink. The smoothie bowls were not all ice and runny as some I've had before, it was thick and flavorful.The next day (reward for riding my bike there), I had the Avo Toast and sunset smoothie. The avo toast had great flavor with the caraway seeds and lemon. I am an avocado toast snob and I only like it a certain way and this was excellent. Will use same spices when I make mine at home. I was unsure of the smoothie with turmeric and ginger - it was a perfect combination. They did recommend pepper in the smoothie and red pepper flakes on the toast- perfect. Can't go wrong- I'm vegan and was happy they had choices for me. I agree with the reviews it is tight parking- bikes are the way to go. There is very limited seating, so we used the table outside at the surf shop next door to eat. The wait time wasn't too terrible- (maybe 15 minutes) it was packed at 9:45am. We were in Rodanthe for 3 days and came here twice, and we wish it would've been 3 times!!!! Such a refreshing way to start your morning off, especially when we're camping and eat like garbage (which I love doing) everyday. It's a cute little shack that makes amazing açaí bowls, with the freshest of ingredients. What I thought was interesting, is that they had a little binder with all the ingredients they use, with all of the health indications of using each. I thought this was great, especially for first timers of açaí and a plus for the other ingredients used. I built my own bowl and got the açaí base with banana, pineapple, kiwi, coconut flakes, almonds, dark chocolate chips and honey granola. OMG was it top notch! My sister got the same, but blueberries instead of kiwi. My husband for the green room with turmeric, and the avocado toast. What I loved about the avo toast, was the caraway seeds and lemon touch! It was interesting and soooo refreshing! We especially love cucumber so having a few slices of cuke to add to a good bite! Great combo! After, we talked to the owner and she told us how she got started and we were all impressed with her ambition! We can't wait to come back and enjoy açaí again at Hatteras Bowls! I love this place a bit more every time I go! There's so many options you can pick, and the bowls are very filling. The price is a little high, but it's definitely worth it. The business is only a few years old and the employees are very hard-working and friendly. Location-wise, the driveway is a bit hidden, and there's limited parking so I recommend walking, but don't let that deter you from going.
